Aussy the D should not let that many rushes in though. They can't be just backing up and hope to do something. Should have saved the last 2 but the wild should not be allowed to walk in with any pressure

injuries and inconsistency is what's killing the stars. when goalies play well, the team can't score. when the team is scoring, the goalies can't keep it out of the net... just brutal

nah, the five hole was harder to stop than the 3rd goal. keep in mind it was a 2 on 1 and Niemi. He has to stay upright enough so that Staal can't go top shelf and he has to consider the pass. Rarely do players go five-hole on a 2on1. I'd say it was more of a brilliant play by Staal, good vision to recognize the opening and sniped it perfectly. The 3rd goal was just a clear shot with 1 shooter. That shot is stopped 97% of the time by any average NHL goalie.

You cant blame him. First goal changed direction and it was impossible for him to get to it. (off leg straight to wild), and the other ones were terrible turn overs, a 3 on 1 and 2 on 1, although I though he should've had that five hole

The D doesn't stand for "defense." Imo the coach ruined both these goalies that year by constantly hooking them. Neither could ever get comfortable bc in the back of their mind they knew one mistake and probably coming out. Just not the way to manage goalies.

@MrNicholas73 жыл бұрын
Why does everyone seem to think this was some crazy anomaly where there was more goals than shots on Niemi? Just because the scoreboard says 2 shots, doesn't negate what you can clearly see in the video: - 0:03 - Zucker Shot - ON GOAL - Niemi Save (0-0) - 0:05 - Koivu Shot - BLOCKED - Oduya Own Goal (1-0) - 0:49 - Staal Shot - ON GOAL - Staal Scores (2-0) - 1:29 - Dumba Shot - ON GOAL - Dumba Scores (3-0) = 3 Shots on Goal / 3 Goals Against Still don't believe me. Go look at the game sheet - Niemi faced 3 shots.
@TheGameTripleX7 жыл бұрын
Don't really blame Niemi though his career is kinda going sour now. The Wild are the best offensive in the NHL right now and can make any goaltender look stupid now with Boudreau at helm. It could have been much worse like getting embarrassed by a bottom feeder team in the league like Jonathan Bernier was against Edmonton. 3 goals in 4 shots against them and this isn't the first time he has gotten embarrassed by them. And this was before the Oilers got much better.
@ChiefXibalba7 жыл бұрын
Still better than Karri let a ton in.
@TheUNofficialNHL7 жыл бұрын
He makes the first save off of Zucker, right? So that's 1 shot, then Oduya puts it in his own net, so still 1 shot. Staal scores on the next shot, then Dumba scores on the 3rd shot. How does Minnesota end up with only 2 shots when Niemi is pulled?

Imagine, we have an AHL goalie (ok, an NHL backup) playing reliever-Montoya's roles, while Price and Montoya are hurt. And as second choices, we have Niemi and Fucale-two inconsistent goalies. Oh, and we have Benn on the first pair. Defensively, we're in trouble. Lindgrën will look bad, too

The First 2 he couldn't do much. A open goal because of a blocked shot and then a 2 on 1. The 3rd could have been stopped but that should have never happened. There was a bad turnover before the shot.
