@@LyonsArcade still a few problems though. The knocker was the thing holding it all back, It's burnt out. Read a forum about how a solenoid should move freely and the knocker was stuck. The left flipper gets stuck or doesn't engage and feels weak. Where the extra ball get is the ball gets stuck because the light has made that plastic sink over the years. Getting that Flipp all in one board helped a lot.

It might not be broke anymore but with all the neglect and dirt this machine shows my bet is that this customer will be back. The machine really needs a complete clean, new globes, new balls, new rubbers plus fixing what ever else ain’t right. I wouldn’t be giving this any warranty past the front door of your shop. You fixed it great Ronnie, but what else is lurking about waiting to fail??
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
Yup, been there, done that. I don't mind if people bring them in and want to clean them themselves, but it'd be better suited to clean them first so that I can troubleshoot what's left but people might not understand that if they havent' done it a lot before so at least we were able to get it booting up for him.

Sometimes they overrate the voltage if there is high frequency pulses. The DC may be 5V, but sometimes pulses can appear like a higher voltage. With that said, on 5V line, 50V is a bit overkill and there is anecdotal evidence that capacitors that are majorly overrated for voltage can actually cause damage to the capacitor longer term if run dramatically under voltage. You know what they say about opinions and everyone having one. You do you. Everything I have seen you do is perfectly safe and acceptable.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
yeah I've always kind of thought that when you wayyyyy over rate the voltage on one that doesn't sound like a good idea, even though in theory it should be fine, it just always didn't sit right with me. Now in this instance with the 50v it wasn't a big deal but on radios and things when they put 450v in where it originally had a 100 or whatever, that just seems like a bad idea. Recently I saw Shango talking about what you're saying and I thought "ah hah! So I was right all along!!!" lol To me it always just seemed a bad idea just because its' wasteful and can't be a benefit so why do it? If somebody told me they took a 50 out and put a 250 in, I would think "what a waste"

Just picked up a Gottlieb System 3 Super Mario Bros and noticed this machine also has a distinct electrical humming! Is this common on all of the older Gottlieb System 3's? Or do you think a capacitor / the DMD display may need to be fixed? Ours sound very similar. Thanks!
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
The buzzing on any of them never really bothers me, so I don't usually even notice if it's doing it and don't ever try to get rid of it so I'm not much help to you, sorry. Usually it has something to do with a bad ground somewhere, OR, they all did it I'm not sure if the System 3's all did it. You'll hear people say you need to do a bunch of ground mods, and then after you do all of those ground mods you'll notice it still sounds the same. It's one of those things you end up chasing all over the place and since it doesn't even bother me I typically just leave it alone unless it's just crazy loud.
@ENM-RE

Do you smell hamburger? I could have sworn i saw a butcher! The last generation of pinball games were really cool. I used to love to play Genesis and Earthshaker. What I have learned from watching your videos, the playfields have so much elaborate gadgetry, the just don't seem to hold up very well. All of the ramps break, the wireform tubes rust, the plastics break. I am sure some of these machines are almost impossible to get parts for. I do think they are some of the most fun machines made. The new machines are really something to see but I'm too dumb to remember all of the sophisticated rules and levels. Plus they are so high priced. It's kind of not fun when you have to spend the price of a car for a pinball machine. Great video as always.
@LyonsArcade

@@LyonsArcade I think new machines are like the fancy cars of today. Too much crap that can break. A person/human only need so much 'stuff' built into something one uses. In so many things out there, it is just overkill. The new pins are fun to look at but the rule sets are just WAY to deep for the average joe like me (and I'm guessing most folks). Thanks again and again for all you do for us pinball lovers Ron. You bring quality and amusement with every video you make.. Cheers, from Canada!

On old schematics the curve was used to mark the outside foil of a capacitor (used to shield the capacitor from EMF) and capacitors had a marking for it too sometimes despite being non-polarized._

I’m guessing the springs on the batter was because they didn’t have a holder and couldn’t solder direct to the battery so soldered springs to the wires and cable tied springs to battery to make the connections. Amazing what ‘come on people” will do instead of just waiting and ordering a cheap part. Really liked this video - the owner knows his limitations so gets it checked out before he starts his project - real world practical. Saved himself a bunch of time as unlike Ron he prob didn’t know to go straight to those caps.
