The birds are singing, "On the tree where we live". It's a variation of the song title "On the Street Where You Live" from the actual musical My Fair Lady . (I googled it)

In George St Sydney in the 60s there was the famous “Crystal Palace”. This establishment had over 20 full sized snooker tables, bingos and pinball machines. This great Gottlieb was there. … It’s interesting to me that “On the Street Where You Live” is referenced on this backglass, and it was also referenced in the long, outstanding song called “Murder Most Foul” by Bob Dylan. The movie had such an impact on society that it is mentioned in 1965 here, and in approx 2017 by Bob. So, the references span over 50 years. … The Street Where You Live is still part of our collective thinking. For style, this machine is wonderful. It’s the last pinball art by the mighty Roy Parker and is a fitting bookend to the career of pinball’s greatest ever artist. Simply wonderful, even when it doesn’t work. Thanks for posting Ronnie.

Beautiful game, and definitely a major nod to My Fair Lady, (one of my favorites.) The main guy on the left I believe represents Eliza Doolittle's dad who sang "Get me to the church on time." It's definitely has the flavor of Covent Gardens from the movie /play.

I have one of these! I just finished tuning it up. I watched all your Gottlieb videos for assistance. The most time spent was on the backglass. So many different colors and minute details. It was so bad that some spots I had to just scrape a section at a time and repaint. then I had to come up with the right colors and the white It is not really white , is it? after triple thick and touch up I sprayed the entire back with white. Playfield was surprisingly good. This was the first pinball I bought back in 1987. This is the third time I "tuned" it up. Thanks

I believe the yellow on the metal is the the result of chromate conversion coating. It's a process where an acidified dichromate solution is used to create a protective layer of metal chromates on the surface of the metal. It is typically done on top of zinc or cadmium plating and the result is an extremely durable finish.

The space invaders clock is a perfect fit for your business........fun stuff. Some day I may just get a vintage pinball and work on it. I took on a 1961 Seeburg Jukebox (knowing only about tube amps)... and the mechanical/selector/tormat system was a whole big adventure. Thank heavens someone filmed some tech DVD's on tormats... as reading the service manual was difficult. The biggest problem I had was the parts/sections all had names, but being a rookie, they needed a Picture/Name page so I know what THING there were talking about. I'm certain that your videos will DRAMATICALLY help rookies, and inspire those with a technical "knack" to learn a new skill. Heck, I can't believe that my little youtube channel has inspired people to build/fix stuff all over the globe. For those of us who are visual learners.......videos like this are the ticket to success.

I can't wait till you get this one up and running. I find play fields with creative drain hole and flipper arrangement really interesting. I really liked seeing Spanish Eyes in action with its below the flippers pop bumper. Mayfair's kickers between the flippers setup reminds me of this. Be careful because the flippers are also drain holes like Spanish Eyes. Please film some play time with Mayfair. Good luck and don't get electrocuted. 🚫🔌🌩

Mayfair is a posh district in London. Buckingham Palace is next door. I spent a couple months working there a long time ago and drank at a pub around the corner from the apartment where Mama Cass from Mamas and Papas and The Who’s drummer Keith Moon both died, four years apart. Owned by Harry Nillson, he said it was cursed and sold it to The Who's Pete Townshend. Flat 12, 9 Curzon Place

If you watch the movie "My Fair Lady" you might get some of the scene...like the song the birds are singing (on the street where you live) and the note in the hat (another song, get me to the church on time), and why the women are dressed the way they are (from the horse race scene). My Fair Lady came out in 1964, so was pretty hot when they made this game.

Love the detail you gave about the backglass, what a beauty. That might actually be a 12 color silk screen. I think I see gray in there as well plus you've got a flesh color. Sometimes they'll do a while base layer and then a second white at the end to add highlights. Imagine getting 9 or 10 colors in and then realizing one of the colors is a little off. It's crazy how much work and skill would have gone into making something like that

If you like the sound of Music, you will enjoy My Fair Lady. It’s a wonderful movie. The trivia behind it is interesting too. Producers rejected a new girl name Julie andrews to a familiar Audrey Hepburn who couldn’t sing . Andrews got picked up to play Mary Poppins and won best actress that year . Lol

Well, watch battery devices often get both power connections on the button side. So for the back side of the battery, they usually connect to that using the rim of it. And I have mixed feelings about that configuration since it can be easy to bend the outer connection down toward the center contact. So you bend it too far down to where it cannot connect to the outside. That leaf often provides the tension for the battery to hold it in the socket, and it can get bent the wrong way and provide no electrical contact or mechanical tension. I've seen that happen in cheap watches.

I'm guessing the story behind this pinball is that they were either trying for the "My Fair Lady" licence, or were just skirting as close as they could to the law. Mayfair, after all, is very close in lettering.
