Hello excuse me for the randomness of my question but didn’t knew where to ask it In gouldian finch, how far can lineage influence new offspring ? I don’t know if I’m clear let’s rephrase it like this : does the grand parents of some babies can have influence on the mutation ? Or simply the parents… Im pretty sure I know the answer but recently seen a lot of people adding details on what the grands parents look like, to say « maybe it’s split for blue » blabla Anyway thanks for this episode as always a pleasure to watch !

Hi. I think the reason they do that is due to many people not understanding which genes are recessive or dominant etc. And therefore which maybe a split or possible split. If you keep good records and know your genes you can give a lot more details. So by way of example. If one grandparent is a blue but the rest are all green back birds. (Parents and other grandparents) then there is still a chance the chicks could be carry blue. The same would go for white brest. But if a grandparent was a yellow and all others were green, it makes no difference as the chick if green cannot be a carrier for yellow... not sure if that answers your question.
