Beer and wine have been available in grocery stores here in Virginia for decades. Liquor stores are doing quite well.

Im from Maryland. Moved to Va when I was 20 and started buying alcohol at 21. Would visit home and realized we didn’t sell in the store like Va and thought to myself this is some bullshit. I’m glad this law is about to be reversed.

Virginia liquor stores are owned by the state. There are no privately owned liquor stores in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Beer and wine can be purchased at grocery stores, convenience stores, etc. in Virginia.

I'm 48 years old and I've lived in 3 different states. I've never seen a grocery store that couldn't sell beer and wine.

In my mid 50's living in Florida. We have had beer & wine available in grocery stores since I can remember. There are liquor stores all over the place still. Matter of fact a brand new, from the ground up, very nice, huge liquor store was just built near me, and I don't live in the hood either. ABC Liquors is a statewide company here. Alcohol sells itself.

I grew up in New Jersey and in general you could only buy beer, wine and liquor in private liquor stores. Many grocery stores got around this by having a separate liquor store next door or in the same strip mall. Now I live in Virginia where you can get beer and wine in grocery stores, but liquor can only be purchased in state owned liquor stores. I’m not sure one is better than the other.

I grew up in NC you could only buy liqour in state stores as well. I think the laws for the ABC stores are good like the times open but them being a state owned store bothers the heck out of me. Used to be nothing on sundays untill noon but I think they changed that, still no liqour store open on sundays. I now live in WA state and they sell everything in the grocery stores I still go to a liqour store out of habbit on the rare occasion I buy it.

Here in Nevada we can buy hard liquor from the grocery store 24/7. Most choose not to sell it.

I want to go into a grocery store and get my wine. I do not want to go into a liquor store. There are Spirit and wine stores and then their liquor stores. So your spirit and wine stores will not. In my opinion see a drastic change but as far as corner stores and liquor stores they're just not a safe environment and their pallets of wine and beers are not that vast. So I have been wanting Maryland to put alcohol into grocery stores. It's nothing like going into Wegmans or Whole Foods and seeing two or three aisles worth of wine and different spirits like come on

In other words the “big” stores got the political clout to get the legislation to given them what they want. Our gov. Doesn’t care if a liquor stores go out of business. It’s an opportunity for the big banks to take ownership of those properties. It’s part of the attack on small business.

Support this not at all. Tax the rich. Don’t let MD tax payments go out of state, require MD payment centers for utility companies in MD. Why are my county taxes going to Philadelphia? Make a mid level payment job center in Baltimore where jobs are needed by real Marylanders. Process checks, create jobs, provide high and higher tech training of all types. If this had been referendum ballot issue, it would fail. Cheap shot, unnecessary confusion. Turn this around into a positive. Maryland farmers provide Maryland schools and prisons with MD milk and aquaculture, farm goods and food production. Move worthy of 1% deadbeats who pay zero tax.

Limit the selection in the supermarkets so those that can't wait can have some beer or wine for their meal. People looking for craft beers or premium wines and liquors will still have to shop local liquor stores. Seems that should keep most people happy.

You do realize that would be impossible. How do you label a define a craft beer, and how do you define a premium wine. Do you really think a state government should be in charge of defining those? They are more important work to do than grading alcohol.

Illinois you can buy beer and wine at any grocery store for over 30 years or longer.are you people kidding me
