Government announces national action plan to combat auto theft

The federal government has released its national action plan to combat auto theft. It includes Criminal Code amendments that would impose tougher penalties for auto theft and better sharing of intelligence across many organizations.

Longer Jail Sentences with fines. If any of them are not Canadian Citizens (Temporary workers, student visas ( Permanent residence) then they should be deported upon serving time in Jail. If any have family (with the same status) then the family is immediately deported.

@@McLovin1759 fully insured. Ever heard about insurance deductibles? Or how long they cover the cost of rental vehicle? Or shortage or supply of vehicles which increases cost of new purchases? Did you know that not being able to provide service consistently for a small business is extremely sub optimal for retaining customers? Bonus points if you know the stress of living with something you can't park in your garage, that you rely on to provide for not only yourself but the community. Kicker supporting a whole family while enduring all that is a trial in and of itself alone. Cheers, dickass.

My issue is deductibles, rising premiums, and inadequate supply of rental vehicles as no policy could cover what was needed, I don't think I need to give your exact details as it's a lengthy issue. But rest assured, the compensation the insurer will provide, is incredibly shit, to put it plainly for you. All while trying to support a community, and my own family with a small business that provides what was deemed as an "essential service" a few years ago. And no for anyone who wants to ask, I can't park a truck in my garage, it doesn't fit.

I do think it would be awesome if criminal cases awarded restitution to the victims. In your case, at least to cover the cost of the deductible, lost wages, rental expenses not covered under insurance, etc.

@@McLovin1759 perhaps the feds could've even mandated the manufacturers to implement some sort of security over the push to start technology. If you look deep into it, the manufacturers knew this would be a problem years ago. Audi has tech that prevents this relay theft, also OnStar is capable of locating the vehicles, or shutting down the engine remotely. I kick myself daily for not purchasing a vehicle with that feature. However, now that this is the reality, the government should be protecting consumers from this threat, with a focus on the criminals, and the manufacturers. On-top of that, I think we all agree that it's not asking much for a couple grand to cover said losses that the insurers do not. On-top of that, maybe some castle laws and allow me to have a pistol to protect my family if this is literally the wild west, right? If I was to defend my property/business I would be the one in jail for much longer than the thief, if he was even caught. This entire country needs a bigger re-tooling than the Toronto Maple Leafs.

'National action plan to combat auto theft'....for example: developing a proper immigration policy and deporting people who commit crimes and are not landed citizens. Sadly our current rise in crime seems to be in direct correlation to the fact that we stopped vetting our immigrants and let too many bad actors slip into our country over the last decade. As a Canadian I value being a citizen of a welcoming and compassionate country. Unfortunately we need to realize that much of the rest of the world lacks certain values that make our country fantastic. It is becoming more difficult for me to feel welcoming towards new people coming here when I'm not certain our agencies have been thorough in deciding who we let in. We are a small population and our culture is under constant bombardment of influence from our southern neighbor's media. Because of this, there has always been a precarious nature to Canadian identity. Let's not flush it down the toilet by letting in those who don't wish to adopt the goodness of our Canadian way. We did the first people here dirty when our settler culture descended on these shores, perhaps we can at least learn to not let that happen again.
