Most of the gaps - unless the car has been wrecked - are from the huge drawl dies used to stamp the sheet metal wearing out. The more model years their used the gaps become worse. As the dies are used they need to be maintained which means they need to be hand ground and reshaped and in some cases they get hairline cracks or stress cracks from the pounding they take that need to be welded and ground down. It’s a pains taking process to refurbish dies that might need to be done every 15,000 hits. A hood or trunk lid die can cost over a million dollars for each half to repair if some employee happens to toss a 1” diameter bolt inside and than the two halves come together. There is an upper and lower half to each die. When you figure how many times the dies strike to form the parts the pressure it takes is amazing. I tried to keep my explanation short as I could. So this is the short one. Just curious about how much does it cost to have one of the big Fords rapped? I know the checker cab company in New Your city has their cabs rapped but they have them done in house. I almost purchased a Michigan State Police car but they were just to much money for me. Many of the taxis drivers purchase them so the demand and price is high. I really like your videos, Thanks

Thanks for taking up along to the auction. One thing I can tell you that here in CA, and I am not trying to pass myself off as an expert; but if an engine produces no codes, it seems unlikely it would pass a smog test and you could never register it.

crown vics and grand marquis after 09 have a intermittent display issue where to odometer goes out randomly and comes back usually bight and such, i've gotten them fixed for 20-50 bucks. dont be discouraged by just the OD not displaying and see if you have a Dashboard doctor in town, so long as there isnt any leaks or ticks/knocks you should find a good vic/merc. whatever you do do NOT put a parts dash in the cars after 08 there is a decent chance you will theft lock your cars computer, its happened to me twice, never again.

Yeah man, I'll get an update vid out shortly with selling prices of the cars and minvans. Each time I'm at the auction I look at those Caravans. They always seem to have a few in the lot. They sell for around $7k which I think is a lot for an auction car.

Hey brother, this channel has gone a looong way in educating me about the purchase of a Gov surplus auction vehicle that will eventually be my daily driver. I currently own an ‘04 DeVille that I love, but it’s running into mechanical issues and becoming a pain to constantly repair. Your methodology and process in these videos has me highly interested in a crown Vic, but there also seems to be a glut of Impalas and Avengers in the 2008-2010 range in my area (St. Louis and surrounding cities). Do you have any experience with the ‘08 to like ‘11 Impalas? Avengers? Many of them seem to be in the mileage range I want (90-100k) with great service records.

OK, just subscribed, but on the other hand, 4196 is average idle hours? You agree with the 33 miles per idle hour CPVI we read out there? If so, your OK with an additional 138k miles on top of the stated miles too? Value aside, just the calculation.

I like the vids and have a former police vehicle myself (mine being a Chevy Impala 9C1). I've found that after putting in a bit of work on the car myself, I ended up with a reliable daily driver for a very low cost. I never thought I'd actually like used police cars, but here I am over a year later lol. Anyways, do you have any advice for how one would find government surplus auctions in their area? Just curious, but why did you want to stay away from that charger, just because you think it was confiscated?? So what?
@hullinger5 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for checking out my auction video. Regarding those confiscated cars, I find there's just too much risk with those. In comparison, the State owned cars are regularly maintained and services, at least here in Delaware. Service history and repair history is available too many times. Those confiscated cars are a crap-shoot and because of that, I would want the selling price to be so low that it covers any surprises once I drive that car out of the auction lot. I guess what I'm saying is that there's a whole lot of risk but the selling price doesn't always reflect that!

It was fun looking at the cars in this video. That Tahoe looks really nice from a distance, but I agree with you, its really ugly up close. It'll be interesting to see what those sell for. If those CVPI's were down here, they'd be in the $2K range - mainly because of the not-white color. Most of the cars that turn up at our local auctions are either white or all black (ex-FHP cars).
