How much money did it cost taxpayers for National Party to cancel the original ferries contract.

Hyundai may wave any termination fee if they win the new tender for the smaller ferries... Otherwise it would be impossible to win that tender... Business is business....

If New Zealand bought two or three ferries similar to MV Manxman recently built by Hyundai for the ISOM Steam Packet they bought a few years ago for 78 million British pounds, New Zealand could save a lot of money... Two ferries should not cost up to 3 billion New Zealand dollars... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Manxman

She is so disingenuous. Admit you made a mistake & try to fix it. But no. Dig a deeper hole for the country before bailing overseas to your Atlas board of directors somewhere. All she has is corporate buzzwords & jibber jabber. No actual answers just hints to answers. What an utter waste of money & time.

The new ferries will be bridging ferries that don't accept rail cars, a year later and they still don't know the cost but it going to going to be less. Yeah right. Sounding more like a Toyota for the price of a Ferrari. These 2 are both an embarrassment and an insult.

Won't because they know it's going to cost more than labour building the ferries and the ports. This way they can just separate the costs between ports and boats and say look we completed the project for cheaper as we said we would, because we didn't pay for the port infrastructure and sold that off to the private sector which will make sure it makes it's money back within 5-10 years.. Just to keep a stupid campaign promise they are completely screwing over the NZ public Which isn't e

Claims she will deliver "best value for money" yet produces nothing to substantiate the claim. Repeats a new revised cost blowout figure of 4 Billion also substantiated by nothing. Hides behind the "commercial sensitivity" excuse to avoid hard questions, but didn't apply the same consideration before announcing the cancellation of the original project. 3.3 Billion for Wellington Transport is apparently an acceptable cost, but 3 Billion for the connection between the North and South Island wasn't. This announcement served as a continuation of announcements about announcements to come.

See how the Tasman local council is struggling to lower a speed limit due the three party government new transportation policy. As the policy does allow locally elected people to set their own speed limits like Labour's. Labour's policy may have needed minor changes, not wholesale changes. Opp! Another election speak ,Local. So, by her comments their first option was to be secondhand vessels, that wasn't viable now haven't actually got any costings but are making noise that it's still going to be cheaper, do they not realize inflation was global, so any contract signed years ago if signed now logically will cost more for a lesser product

If the replacement ferries are not rail roll on roll off, it’s going to delay the turnaround time of the ferries every time they load and unload the rail wagons.

Winston we are behind you. Sometimes it’s hard to agree with most of what government does with our money. However the ferry service is very important. Why do we not build the two new ferries here in New Zealand. We are not a notion of pussies. We have all the talent to do this? It would be great for job creation for the time period necessary. @@paulmarker5689 that’s why it should be done. It explains the reason you suggested. That we don’t have the capabilities. The point here is we not only have incredible engineers fitters and turners but we have multimillionaires. Great things need great people to back us. Just see what Donald Trump will do to bring his country back from the brink of communism. Thank you for your reply I just think our country needs something this huge to bring us back from the brink. We have to be able to challenge not whimper. Thank you.

@@richardmcartney2461 New Zealand is known throughout the world as a boat building nation. It would take years too put the infra structure into place too even consider building any thing over 20000 tonnes. Millionaires just want a quick buck
@richardmcartney2461
@richardmcartney2461 Ай бұрын
@ agreed. Believe it or not the infra structure natural resources could be a hindrances. The WILL is what makes physical objects manifest. This is not an argument for or against. You would be surprised what can transform negativity into positivity. Every difficulty thrown at you WILL be overcome. Just purchasing the vessels is off course what will happen because there is not a man in this country that has the will to achieve anything great. The days of men like Rutherford are no longer our to possess. We are a pack of dogs that just FOLLOW. It hurts when you see the great men living here but the WILL to achieve is no longer in our country. Let’s give billions to someone else because we must have it immediately. Thanks Paul one multimillionaire has a fleet of personal helicopters another builds old warplanes they get to enjoy those experiences until death comes. Nothing great about these blokes. Again thank you for your thoughtful reply. I understand your mind set and believe me what you think is important. Cheers

It will take a team of 100 Naval Architects One Calendar Year to interpret the Clients brief for the New Ro-Ro Ferry and another team of around 250 Naval Architects another Calendar year to provide full CAD Drawings and building costs for the Engineers at the Shipyards and another 6 months to cut the steel plates and then another 2 years to actually construct the vessel

Does not make sense to get smaller boats that will reduce the amount of fright being moved across the straight each time boats sail, Smaller boats not much use in high seas which is now a regular part of life for the Cook Straight. As it is the boats currently are as small as you would want to go as the swells increase in size and it becomes unsafe to sail there will be more cancelations and loss of freight movements, Bigger ships able to sail in bigger sea swells with rail enabled makes sense simply because something from Auckland going to say Dunedin gets loaded in Auckland and unloaded in Dunedin which is more efficient that having to unload reload, unload reload if having to use trailers on cook straight ships, just is not logical to do this extra costs does not make sense, Just say you made a mistake and go ahead with the original deal with Korea! Willis you don't know it all so stop pretending you do! And really forming a state entity, wasn't there one before National decided to sell off our Railways just to see it become broken and unusable? Get Real!
