We can compare Jose P. Laurel to Philippe Petain of Vichy France. They were forced to collaborate to protect their fellow countrymen's interests rather than to fight and die in a futile situation.

That’s right, except that Petain was tried and convicted for treason after the war and sentenced to die (later commuted to life imprisonment due to his age) but although Laurel was ordered to be shot by firing squad by McArthur when he was captured in Tokyo, he somehow managed to get away with the crime of treason….with Roxas later gave amnesty to all japanese collaborators…justice Philippine style “the barkads” prevailed as usual….Perhaps you can tell that to president Zelensky of Ukrain to follow the example of Laurel….good advise 🇵🇭♥️😎

They also taught and encouraged the Filipino language along with Nihonggo though. As opposed to during the American period where everything was taught and written in only English which is also one of the reasons why the use of Spanish practically disappeared in Philippine society.
@pinoynobody211
@pinoynobody211 3 ай бұрын
It isn't really the language that should be blamed, but the person using it. During the Spanish era. RIzal and most of his contemporaries used the Spanish language against the colonizers themselves. During the American Occupation, Quezon and his contemporaries used the English language to advocate and further advance the interests of the Philippines leading to our eventual independence. During WW2, probably less than 5% of Filipinos can communicate in fluent Japanese. But those who did, President Laurel in particular, used it in order for lives to be spared. Some abused the language, but some used it to help, to educate. So like I said it depends on the person using the language. The language itself is neutral.

@@erikawani561 You got confused? USA tried so hard to make Spanish as a language in the Philippines. Under the American rule, Spanish was being taught in schools but Spanish was never the general language in the Philippines. The Americans had high regards for Spanish but not the native languages THE FILIPINO PEOPLE ASK JUSTICE SPEECH OF HON. MANUEL L. QUEZON OF THE PHILIPPINES IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES -FEBRUARY 13 1913 "ENGLISH OR SPANISH QUALIFICATION TO VOTE I have asked the gentleman from Pennsylvania how many voters there would be in this country if the people of the United States were required to read and write German or any other foreign language And I ask the same question again. Neither Spanish nor English are native languages in the Philippines " SPEECH
OF
 His EXCELLENCY MANUEL L. QUEZON
PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES
ON
 FILIPINO NATIONAL LANGUAGE DECEMBER 30, 1937 " Today there is not one language that is spoken and understood by all the Filipinos, nor even by a majority of them, It is unnecessary for me to demonstrate how essential it is for our people to have one language that can be used by all in their daily intercourse. Such language cannot be either English or Spanish, except perhaps, if ever, only after many generations and at a very great cost. We cannot wait that long." During the Spanish rule this was how few were the Filipinos who spoke Spanish: El Filibusterismo, Jose Rizal What are you going to do with Castilian, the few of you who will speak it? Spanish will never be the general language of the country, the people will never talk it, because the conceptions of their brains and the feelings of their hearts cannot be expressed in that language La Solidaridad v.6 yr.1894 Mr. Nieto hit the mark many times about the vicious administration of such an important colony , specially fixing on the lack of compliance of the intelligent Law of the Indies , protector of the native , to whom not even the Spanish language has been taught and little or nothing is being done to educate . Filipinas por España: Narración episódica de la rebelión en el archipiélago filipino, Volume 2 By Emilio Reverter Delmas, Printed Centro editorial de A. Martín, 1897 - Philippines" "The natives have no knowledge of our Spanish language. It's almost the same as it was during Legazpi's time. They barely understand us and we do not understand the natives, not little, not much. The leyes de Indias (Laws on Education) that has been much talked about has never been complied with and they are dead letters. The same as other laws on the teaching of the Spanish language."

The Japanese supported the Philippine Revolution of 1898, their government sent 10,000 Murata rifles to aid Aguinaldo's ill equipped Army during the Counter Revolutionary Campaigns of Spain... Perhaps that's why Aguinaldo decided to side with the Japanese, he was also known for secretly hating the American government for taking him and his government out of power 40 years before ww2...
