Your video was the first to be suggested by KZbin, but I was stupid enough to think: Oh, it "only" has like 3k views this video can't be that good and watched other ones with 30k+ views. My setup sounded pretty good even though my settings were god awful (thank you SM7B). After following your instructions I've had 2 people this past week go buy a SM7B/GoXLR combo because of how I good I sound now. Thank you so much. I know you don't recommend it, but I still got a preamp just to help the GoXLR Mini. I'm sure the Cloudlifter is well worth the money for a more intense environment, but I've had fantastic results with the "Klark Teknik CM-1". Bought it on sale for $35 via Guitar Center. It does the same +25db gain. For a desktop inside of a home, it's much more reasonable vs the $150 Cloudlifter (for me personally)

@@kettnercreative i have proper positioning (fist length away, very similar to your setup in the video) but I can still hear the background noise when I talk. I guess I'm being really picky, but I'm currently using 54 db of gain and can hear the buzz/fuzzy background behind my voice.

Hi@@kettnercreative, I have burning desire to find out the answer to my question and wasn't successful by Googling nor asking so far. I need an audio interface/mixer for my xlr mic and I really like the little brother of the goxlr, which is called the goxlr mini. (Fits well within my budget and takes up less space, etc) but the manual of it does state that the phantom power only provides a 24 volt punch as it draws power from the USB of the PC. Knowing that I have a safety belt of gain with a cloudlifter like the CL1 would make me feel at ease, but I'm unsure right now whether the 24 volts would actually be able to power it, also unsure whether a pluged in monitoring mic would further cause issues or any performance decrease when it comes to the performance of the cl. Would you be so kind to confirm the validity of my fears or dismiss them?

@kettnercreative3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I can see what you're trying to ask. If you have the gain too high on the GoXLR (more than 65DB), you will be able to hear the noise/hiss that you describe. The best way to solve this would be with better mic placement so you don't need as much gain. Another way to solve it is with a gentle noise gate as described in this video (maybe set to -50 or so) to mute the mic completely while you're not speaking. This will get rid of the background noise/hiss when you're not speaking.
