GOYA - A DOCUMENTARY

Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (born March 30, 1746, Fuendetodos, Spain - died April 16, 1828, Bordeaux, France), was a Spanish painter and print-maker, and the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Goya, who came to artistic maturity during the age of Enlightenment, is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the Moderns. Goya was a commentator and chronicler of his era, reflecting in engravings, paintings and drawings contemporary historical upheavals. He was also one of the great portraitists of his time.

I spend a great deal of my time forced to rest due to muscle disease. Ive always loved art, have some education, & create visual art when I can. When I cannot, my favorite subject to ingest while resting is art, specifically painters. In comparison to the hundreds that I have viewed, this documentary is outstanding!! Im very familiar with Goya’s work & the times he lived in. From the music to the narration style & overall pace, I think u provide a very fitting atmosphere, setting the perfect stage for his work. Speaking of which, wow! what a pleasure it is to find so many pieces gathered into one story. This work (the documentary as a whole) is fantastic!

For all his nightmare visons, Goya displays the pain of an empath, his portraits reveal such sensitivity as well as satirical ridicule and allegorical disgust. A truly astounding artist.
