GPD Win Max 2 - Where is the Ethernet Port?

GPD's 3rd installment of the Win Max series is both promising and disappointing in equal measure. Some great additions, but too much is compromised for us.

since you are using it only for gaming- how comfortable is it ? can you play on it without using the table like on the bed , sofa ... ?

agree with the lack of ethernet port. Don't know why they chose to replace it with an extra usb from their original Max 1 design. I guess they figured you can just plug in an adapter and the usb port allows for more peripherals to be used with it. Can't wait for Valve to make SteamOS available for devices like this.

Steam OS will be perfect for this device. Who knows when it will come though.

@@Arcade1983 My guess is after Steam Deck is available in retail stores. SteamOS/Steam is basically what's making Valve money. They're barely making money off hardware sales, it's the software that's making them money. I think once their hardware sales have peaked and the OS has reached a near perfect experience with all the existing bugs ironed out, then they'll make SteamOS available to all these third party handheld PC's.

Utterly ridiculous comments for this video. I have a winmax2 and a onexplayer 1s, and both are gaming handheld machines. The winmax2 is way superior to the overrated steamdeck by a long way. The screen on the deck is only 7 inches compared to 8.4 on the oxp and 10 on the winmax2. Too small. I hold the winmax2 while gaming for hours and feels comfortable, so this makes it a handheld. If it was placed down on a table, how would you use the bumper triggers?. That's right you cannot. This has way more storage than the deck and can be upgraded to hold 6tb without upgrading the main ssd. If you were to get a laptop with an ethernet port that you need so badly, then purchase another device that supports this. I was going to get the onexplayer 2 but chose this instead because of the landscape screen and 10 inch size compared to 8.4 inches. In my opinion this is 100% the leading gaming HANDHELD that you can get at the moment, there is nothing like it. Not to forget the joysticks are Hall sensor so no more drift. Plus why is steam a bad experience without steam os. You start steam in windows and launch a game. Not sure what else you would need. All the settings for joystick config etc are there and work great. You get a great gaming experience from launching steam from windows so again ridiculous comments that you are saying. Please do not create a video and slag off a truly amazing device as it just gets people's backs up. Just saying.

Totally understand how it wouldn't be as useful to you without an ethernet port, for me I just have been looking for a decently powerful small laptop for a long time for something like this is perfect. If you end up not using it much you can always send it to me ;)

Someone took a GBA (my favorite console) and turned it into a laptop. I would take the insane amount of ports, micro and sd slots, and an option for 4glte with wifi 6e over lan any day. Waiting to see what comes out ces then likely buying. Thanks 1983. Great year by the way.

Nobody talks on the 4g model 😏 like what carrier, does it come ready and only have to put sim card in? I mean its not like a lot of laptops have 4g option...just thought more ppl would be interested.

Well it really depends on what country you live in. In the US, the 4G modem is compatible with ATT Tmobile and Verizon, however the 4G LTE service is much slower on Verizon as it connected to older 4G bands.

I can tell you never used a steam deck. All you can do is use steam. You can't play COD, Fortnite or any other competitive games. You cannot play any of the most popular games. Steam OS really is not very good and I hated it. I can play anything on my WM2.

In fact I do own a Steam deck and if you check my videos I even made a video about it. Steam has a huge library of games and yes of course COD and Fortnite aren’t yet in Steam OS, now that valve has passed the 1 million units sold mark they may start to support steam os, which has a much nicer interface than the windows desktop.

I play COD on my Steam Deck after installing Windows 11 and it works perfectly fine. The controls feel a lot better than the WM2 but I do prefer the WM2's bigger screen, keyboard and all the ports for productivity, for gaming though the Steam Deck wins.

@Arcade1983 That's a little true. Only about 35% worked for me. All other games were 720p and a lot lower, all on the lowest settings to reach 40fps. On my WM2 I turned my screen down to 1680x1050 in windows sttings, and I play everything at high or ultra at 60FPS at tpd of 23. I can do high at 18 and usually at 15. At 1200p I can play most games from medium to high on AAA next gen titles. High to ultra on most things 3 years or older. As for the interface, I click on a game, and it plays. All my games are on my desktop. I start up my pc, and there they are.

Exactly. I think this dude just plays older games. The steamdeck 7" screen is too small for me.

​@@rawar2377 If it can run almost anything on Ultra settings 40+fps, then it is the best device on the narket today, especially the refresh 7840u versiin which is coming out soon.
