Man, every time something breaks around the house all i have to do is KZbin a solution and someone out there has been there and done that! My little guy (4mo) loves his swing and we were terrified when the motor crapped out over the weekend. Long story short, I bought an Airwick at Dollar General and it works again! I can't believe the Airwick has the same damn motor as a FP baby swing. TIP!!! I found in the comments here the part number for the supposed Air Wick motor. I ordered it for $5 off eBay trying to be more efficient. Looked identical. Attached it, worked but wasn’t powerful enough to move the swing. Flipped it around wondering if that was the problem... no difference. Went and bought the Air Wick in a last ditch effort, worked perfectly. Unfortunately now my swing cannot be repaired again because we had to cut the wires for 3 fixes. We also managed to mess up the music with all the fiddling around. Bummer. I’d love to save someone else this trouble and I’m going to post this in several places. Buy the Air Wick!!!!

Used an air wick ultra and I soldered the green and yellow wires right to the motor (checking connection pattern prior) I also soldered the diode and other pieces that were on the old motor. I had trouble reinserting the motor/spring assembly. If you disconnect the brace between the legs and move the legs together, you can remove the brown bracket above the motor assembly. Remove the two screws on the cap of the swing, lift it up, and you can pop the motor assembly right in instead of contorting the motor assembly around to get the spring arm to go back in the swing.

Hi i just finished fixing my babies swing same way u did i didnt use the diodide or caps can it by n e chance catch on fire or n e thing like that? Just want to keep it the safest for my baby.
@GPWoodworks7 жыл бұрын
Anything electrical can catch fire. The diode and cap are there to protect the components on the control board when you turn off the swing function. When the motor is turned off, there is a reverse current that flows from the motor to the control components. The diode and cap help to reduce this effect. While it is usually best to put things back the way you found them, I chose not to do that in this case. There is a link to this same motor, with the diode and cap already installed, in the description. If you feel concerned enough, you can use that one.

It's not a problem. I did this repair for the wife's grandson long before he was born and he has yet to visit. So, we haven't used it other than the test you saw in the video. The swing works but I don't have extensive use of it. There is a level of risk any time a repair is made. The risk doesn't go way if someone else does the repair, you just have someone else to blame IF things go wrong. If you do this repair again with the diode/cap version of the motor, you would at least remove your concern about it. It won't remove the possibility of a problem, but you would have put the swing as close to factory condition as you could. I hope this helps... I'm on my way out the door but I will revisit this comment string this afternoon in case you have more questions.

Not so much in general (in my experience). However... I found an insane number of complaints about this very failure to this line of products.IMO There should be enough of a mechanical advantage (with the worm gear setup they used) for this to last a good long while... but it seems that they have had issues with this motor failing. Bad batch maybe?The fix is easy enough if you have a Philips screwdriver, even for the not so mechanically inclined. I mean... if I can do it...

@GPWoodworks7 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you may have bigger problems than just a dead motor. If you have the skill, check that voltage is present at the connectors on the board when you turn them on. If the voltage is thee then the problem is with the motor side of things (bad motor, broken wire etc). If the voltage IS NOT there, then the problem could be the switches, the traces on the board or a component in between. Sorry I can't be more helpful.... Good luck.

@youllnevergetmynumbr5 жыл бұрын
It's been two years, so I know you guys probably don't care anymore, but here is the reason for the diode and cap for anyone having this problem today. When this motor spins it can create voltage spikes, which if it made it back to the board could cause trouble. The diode redirects any extra juice to the capacitor, which is able to store it and release it gently back into the system. It's just an added layer of protection that is probably worth the VERY small investment and solder job. Really any small diode and cap would do the trick.

Wondering if there's an issue with the strength of the replacement motor (or perhaps I just have a fat baby *true*). I've verified that the polarity of the wires is right. I've tested for voltage, and still showing between 4.2 and 5.4 volts feeding to the motor, but these replacement motors just don't seem strong enough to swing the swing under load. Anyone else experience this, and what have you thought to do to fix it? I ordered a few motors from Newegg last week www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6704N22094&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_- that appear to be higher torque, and the same size. Not sure if I'll run into issues by putting these into the swing, but at this point, don't think it could hurt to try. All thoughts welcome :)
@GPWoodworks7 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you covered all of the electrical bases. I can't see it hurting anything. They ARE slightly different motors. The one from Surplus shows a higher current(.05A) in the specs than the NewEgg motor(.028A). This USUALLY translates to higher torque. They list different units for torque on each model (21g-cm vs .588Nm). I did some math (1 Nm is equal to 10,197.16213 g-cm according to onlineconversion.com/torque). This represents a difference of roughly 285X the torque in the same frame of motor at the same voltage and less current. I find that a bit confusing. I would say, if you have both, try both. Leave the motor in that works best. Please let us know what happens.
@soran24847 жыл бұрын
With a push start, the weaker motor salvaged from the air wick is still functioning, and so I haven't put the new motors from Newegg in yet, but just wanted to offer that the slow boat from China took its time arriving, so anyone looking for an immediate fix would do better to swing by WalMart like I did. If/when that motor burns out, I'll be updating here to let you know how the Newegg motors perform.

Well, the Air Wick motor officially burnt out again yesterday. Was excited to put in the Newegg motor, but after soldering on the cap and diode, and fitting it in place, it appears that it is too slow in the RPM department to toggle the swing like it needs to in order to have any sort of a decent rock. It muscles through it, but it doesn't effectively swing the child. Guess I'm back to looking for the proper motor for cheap.

what if it wont power on at all
@GPWoodworks7 жыл бұрын
carla varner Too many possible causes to list here. Make sure the outlet is powered. Plug in the power supply (not connected to swing) and check that its working. This is best done with a volt meter. Basically you need to check from the outlet to the circuit board for power until you find where it stops or find the faulty part. Sorry I can't be more help. A full explanation would look like war and peace.

There is a history, on my channel, of people telling me to cut my nails. I think my wife puts them up to it. :)
