your statement is so redundant... I'm Chinese too and obviously we would want to live a western lifestyle in order to feel wealthy considering the westerners were wealthy before us... its almost definitional.. before China was wealthy they were also third world... how would living the life of a farmer who is at the brink of poverty at all times make you feel rich.. I'm Chinese and live in Canada, the only reason I'm even in Canada is because my parents left China to chase 'a better life' in the western world... this isn't anything new... its just instead of running away to a developed country, now China is becoming itself developed and starting to become very western like since western countries are also developed countries. we certainly wouldn't want to stay third world or appear like any other third world country now that we are advancing past that...

Shanghai Noon Firstly, are you telling me or are you asking me? You put a question mark at the end of a statement so I'm confused. Secondly, you should learn to read properly; nowhere did I mention ill feelings against rich folks. My problem with the riches in China is that many of these zillionaires are not educated; they hit it big in the 90s once the market opened and accumulated massive wealth, but the software did not update with the hardware. Most of these people can't even speak proper mandarin. They burn money like paper chasing western goods and plunged Chinese culture into materialism. Those who do take classes are not seeking self improvement; they are doing it for others to see and to not lose "face". Not only are they not up to par with western culture, but they have also abandoned centuries of precious Chinese customs. Thirdly, do not call me a dumbass when you don't even know me. You might have a Chinese flag as your icon and call yourself Shanghai Noon, but I've split my life equally in China and the states so I'm more credible than you think.

Xtracik807 1. It's called a rhetorical question. You're welcome. 2. How is that any different to rich people in other countries? People who place their money in trusts to evade tax collectors? Who keep their riches in the family? Who donate money to politicians that "take care" of their interests? How are they anymore "cultured" than the Chinese elite? 3. You called the original author "dumb" for having the audacity to admire the oldest civilisation on the planet. Are you saying that it's only okay for you to call people dumb?

Maybe someday things goes wrong, business went down, we still have some of our money to rise.. We don't act like some Hollywood douche. We spent our free times with families, share with them. That's not the point, the point is they are throwing away their own culture to feel accepted by the "rich" in the western world. It is all so superficial, singing opera, playing polo, getting on the yacht, eating caviar. It is all injected by the western culture, correspondingly it is saying Asian culture is unworthy and poor even if you're wealthy, which is disgusting.

while i give them props for earning their millions they should remember how it was be poor and out there struggling. I find it completely disturbing how the rich spend so much on materialistic things because they want others to envy them. What happened to the old Chinese traditions of being humble and not flaunting what you have. There are millions in China struggling on less than a dollar a day, it just hurts to see a 25 year old in a Lambo dining and buying excessive useless luxury items when an 70 year old senior is still groveling each day just to put food on the table.

this is so sad....lol usually when u come from the bottom up you would expect especially with the chinese and how heritage and culture value is with Asian culture that they would give back to those less fortunate(their own people). What is the need too have this kind of life style?...looks to me like white(euro) people taking advantage of some asian people in a way. why cant u be rich in the 1% and have a normal set of friends or colleagues? and want to give back?.....that last girl talks about improving their lives and etc....lol you are the 1% wtf is there to improve about your life? you were presented a chance/opportunity/luck/circumstances and you succeeded now give that same chance/opportunity/luck/circumstances back to the some of the 1million that was once you. shouldn't it be how can we move to improve our own lives while helping to improve others. the Chinese have a amazing culture and one that believes in helping others especially family wise. you would think these 1% Chinese citizens would at-least give back to their network of cousins and relatives?....nope lets build a yacht community and keep these rich chinese here where we can integrate them into the 1% world we created. In this world their 1% will help build ours the White community 1% even bigger while we teach them the Elite way of eatting cum off the hand. LOL

There's something so wonderful yet sad about all of this. It's wonderful to see people of Asian and non-white backgrounds achieving the same level of elite privilege that white people have historically enjoyed. Yet at the same time, I think we're all focusing on the wrong things. It must be so stressful to have such intense worry about what people think of you, to be in constant competition with your neighbours, even when all the power and money in the world is yours already.

And then there are the rich kids I've taught English who are completely oblivious to the other side of China, which is the real China that the majority are living and think that you are poor coz you're lazy or deserve it. But then again, I've never been anywhere where its different.

Boats and champagne are not fulfilling. Nothing wrong with having it but thats not what will bless your life.

The "luxurious" lifestyle in this video is kind of invasion of the Western imperial culture, by the way, just different way to enjoy the life, doesn't mean we don't know how to enjoy the life.

Let's be real. If I was that rich, I would probably do everything they are doing but I would enjoy it not do it for others. (I am imagining myself so rich that I could give to others and give myself the utmost in life: so hate comments stay away...)
