Contrary to what I said in the review, at the time of this video you CAN purchase a copy of Anohana, though it will not be the special edition version that I had on camera. The new version is cheeper though, so that's cool :)

I gotta say I just finished watching this, literally 5 mins ago, and I have got to say *Fuck.* *That.* *Ending!!* I cried my heart out all through that ending scene. And I'm glad I did. I'm not an emotional guy. I find it hard to display any sort of emotion. I tend to just let things boil up inside me and I need something as a release. That ending gave me that release. Thank you Tristan for sharing this amazing work of art that has helped me through this troubled time of mine.

Ano Hana is one of my favorite anime of all-time. I'm glad to see you review this, Arkada. I was also thinking it's a good one to fill in the Clannad void. The one thing I can say about Ano Hana is that it's not really that sad, just emotional. I know the last few episodes had me crying, but it was a more "inspired, emotional" cry than a sad cry. The series is extremely uplifting and as crazy as this might sound, it made me get in contact with some of my old, childhood friends who I fell out of contact with. I love it when a show can have that sort of impact on my personal life.

With every character, a pure connection is established. You learn of the story from their perspective, at a rather steady pace. There are wonderful shows that conclude in disappointment, but not this. It may not have been tragic, as that was the purpose. But it was beautifully executed, and painted my cheeks with tears. I loved every minute, and I believe you will too. Thank you Menma!

I watched this anime in one day on a rental DVD just three weeks before you've uploaded this. I still remember November 10th, 2013, it changed my life in an absolutely positive way! What you're telling about the characters' personalities is exactly why I think this anime is especially great. I deeply fell in love with Anaru but the whole anime impressed me much more I could imagine. I visited Chichibu, where it's placed ten days after the first watching, by bicycle from Tokyo, riding 100 km/60 miles one way, because I needed some exercise to calm down my heartbreaking feelings. And since that, I've been in Chichibu for more than 50 times... I would rate it like a "100 out of 10" because it gave me so much love that I couldn't imagine before. Anohana is not just an anime. It's a miracle!

Thank you for doing this review. If you wouldn't have made this video, I probably wouldn't have discovered this anime for another couple years, if at all. Personally, I disagree with some of these people saying it's too melodramatic. Having lost my brother at about the same age as the group lost Menma, I understand the impact that loss had on their lives. I've had periods throughout the five years since then, mostly the past two, that went with the ways the different characters were coping. Hell, I even ended up dropping out of college because of doing like Linta did and skipping class for days on end. And that emotional ending was perfect. If only my brother could have left me a last message like that...

I don't doubt the feelings of loss, but I do doubt 5 people crying out and repeating each other word for word, either in sync or one after the other.

Well for me that was sad regardless. What a shitty way to end the thing by having them seperate for a whole fucking year and reunite in a 10second clip that goes back to the worst part of the show, the tsundere crap, which taiga actually evolved out of during the show for the most part.

The saddest, most heartwarming and most beautiful anime I've seen since Clannad After Story with Menma being one of the most adorable characters ever, making it even more tragic that she's dead.
@ItsVerreth
@ItsVerreth 10 жыл бұрын
Really, second to Clannad? I guess I'm not gonna feel too much with Clannad seeing as i found this animes emotional scenes fairly comical. That final Menma scene was so bad, 5 people sitting on the ground crying as loudly as possible just doesn't do it for me. It felt like the show was trying very very hard to make you feel something at that point, which for me, it did not.
@Wurzelknecht
@Wurzelknecht 10 жыл бұрын
To each his own that is fair enough. There are also a lot of shows, movies or books over which other people cry their eyes out that don't move me as much as it did them. But to me I just enjoyed the heart of this series. We all know how it has to end so we spend 12 episodes of getting into a story about coping with the death of a beloved friend who is shown to be one of the loveliest characters that ever existed just so that we can have emotional closure with the rest of the gang in that final scene. I guess it's also a matter of perspective and how much you can relate. I probably wouldn't put any of the cast (except for Menma) in a "favourite character"-list, and I outright disliked two of them, but I certainly can get into the concept of how heartbreaking it would be to lose a friend and after many years finally be able to say goodbye to her. As for Clannad: That is one of my few exceptions to the "to each his own"-rule. The first season might not be to everyone's liking but if you don't cry at least once during the second season you're either dead inside or so completely unable to get emotionally invested in a fictional story that nothing except the real world will ever move your heart. Both cases would be sad.

***** Don't get me wrong, I've cried (or teared up anyway) to a lot of anime/movies/tv, but honestly the only part of Ano Hana that touched me was when Poppo said he literally watched Menma die, other than that, not so much.

FEV Reject I want to make alt accounts just so I can thumb up your first comment more; I came into this anime craving a huge tearjerker and what I got was less than satisfactory. The show was beautifully animated and had a good soundtrack, but the ending was just.... flat. There was no plot twist, no emotional release, no nothing. I nearly cried at Poppo's confession, that seriously moved me, and everything after that was just mediocre at best.

i get really mopey whenever i reminisce about anohana. sometimes that melancholy lingers for days, and i can't stop myself from binging videos like this one for company. it's a feeling i recognise as the tides of grief, rising suddenly when i least expect it, washing over me for some time before receding to the back of my mind once more. feels silly when i say it out loud but it's *almost* like mourning a real person. that's the power of art. it continues to leave a flower-shaped dent in my soul years later.

I watch the Japanese versions pretty strictly. I honestly prefer the japanese voice acting. It just sounds better all around-- more "genuine" might be one part of it, and the voices are a better fit to the characters in most cases. (No, I'm not saying all dubs are bad.) But I'm glad you don't have a reason like "not liking to read the subs" like most people I know in real life who watch dubbed anime.
@BaileyCallis
@BaileyCallis 10 жыл бұрын
mrgenius4 you seem to have a distaste for english, there are plenty of fantastic dubs, you clearly have your head shoved so far up your ass that you wont give dubs a chance, heck the cowboy bebop dub is better than the sub and there are more.

The show broke me. I don't mean it as a joke, that as a man it somehow made me cry. No, while I did ball my eyes out during the last two episodes...afterwards, I cried harder than I ever had in my life, once the credits stopped, I was left in despair. Because that show is my fantasy. I've never had friends that were truly special to me. Even then, I never had friends I only had A friend each place I lived. And there's never been a Menma. I try thinking of every single girl I've known, even girls I've just came across, and even though I like some physically, even could accept a relationship with them...none of them I could truly love. I can't even think of any celebrities that I could actually love. And this is what this show gave me. Despair. Despair in the fact that friends and love has always been my wish...but my wish will never be fulfilled. And what's the point of living when I will never have this wish. To be honest, the only point of living for me is to simply become the greatest in the things I'm to do. And that is it. I recognize there's never going to be any true happiness for me anymore, because there's not ever going to be a Menma for me (what makes this sadder, is I'm obsessing over a fucking character). All there is to do now, is to be the GOAT. God, I'm full of myself. I'm so into myself, the only reason I want to live is to simply be the greatest of all time, like come on. Well, I am pretty sure I heard something of a saying that the best of the best, most especially musicians, artists, and scientists, is that most of them never die happy. Shit, some die before they were even known as great. I kind of feel like that's gonna be me, the greatest who committed suicide before he got what he needed: attention. Fucking attention whore me.
