The second season of Black Butler was doing nothing but milking on a popular franchise and pandering to the fangirls. What they should have done was go back and follow the manga. In the manga they devote an entire chapter to the development of Sebastian and Ciel's relationship. Ciel also does more things in the manga than he does in the anime, and he actually investigates rather than just needing to be the damsel in distress.

Even the fangirls were disappointed at the time being! Now a nation of 12-years-old girls are considering this shit (the second season) super awesome. It's sad to see how Kuroshitsuji is being milked like that. I mean, even the manga doesn't really move further.. Not talking about the live movie...

How are they suppose to continue from the manga? At the end of Season 1, Ciel found his parent's murderers and they all died. Thus, it ended with Ciel's soul about to be eaten. In the manga, the murderers haven't even been found yet. How are they suppose to do a season 2(or 3) based on the manga when the anime has already diverted so far from it?

If you saw Black Butler (first season) don't even watch the sequel!!!! I recommend you watch Book of Circus. It's not the true end but it is far better than the sequel

If you're going to watch Black Butler, here's some steps to not get confused. 1. DO NOT WATCH SEASON TWO. It's not canon nor involves with the manga. 2. Watch season one, until the curry contest arc. Then go watch book of circus and murder. 3. For my recommendation, just read the manga, the anime is confusing. 4. If you're curious about season two, go waste precious hours of your life watching a series with no plot, common sense or logic.

Pineda *Raises hand* The order I experienced was: (2011) Watched all of season 1(I went into this blind in mid-June), started reading the manga from volume 6 (in September) Then started reading it online while still buying the volumes. (2012) Watched season 2 and despised it with a passion. (Seriously, amnesia? Cliche' much?) (2014) Flipped out when they announced the Book of Circus adaptation, 'cause I happened to be in Japan at the time. More specifically, I was in an *Animate* store as I was talking to a friend about a few roles that Mamoru Miyano has played that she's heard of. A few minutes later, we were in the dvd section when a nearby screen showed some kind of promo and my jaw dropped. (2015) Slightly disappointed that Book of Murder was movie-length, instead of being episodic like Book of Circus, but that would've likely broken the pacing of the story. (2016) Looking forward to the newest adaptation of Titanic+zombies.

conny - I love how you say that the anime (Season 1, I'm assuming?) is confusing. I tried to get my bf to watch it to help me make sense of it, but the first episode turned him off completely. I talked to one of my friends, and she told me that, if I'm confused in Season 1, Season 2 won't answer my questions. That coupled with the fact that that annoying brat gouges his servant's eye out just for looking at him made me decide that I won't be watching Season 2 (I have a thing about things getting near my eyes so the whole of the latter sequence really made me anxious). Also, spiders. However, at some point, I do plan on getting the manga series. I really am interested in the story!

Moreover the ending is disturbing. Why would Sebastian work like a fucking slave to the end of his life (or forever, you might say) for absolutely nothing in return ? Why cann't he betray Ciel like how Claude betrayed Alois ? He agree to work for nothing ??? I thought demons only care about your souls ??? If he can't get Ciel's soul, why can't he just stop working for Ciel ???

Ok. When it comes to Kuroshuitsuji, after watching this it's only saving grace is the non canon season Black Butler: Book of Circus, the manga adaptation to the Noah's Ark Circus arc. Which you should review since it's opening and ending is so amazing, as well as its villains creep factor.

It's not that good, but honestly not that horrible. If you try to give it a chance, Alois annoys me, but if you understand his story you'd know why he acts so disturbingly hatable. I'm not sure which season i prefer. But it's seriously not that bad. That ending tho, i kinda disliked it, cuz the whole soul thing joining together in some heaven is kinda senseless. And a sad Sebastian makes a sad me :( so yeah, that's my main problem with it, Sebastian getting all depressed at the ending :(

I actually liked alouis. Now before all of you kill me, the reason why i liked alouis is because of his backstory. *SPOILER AHEAD* Alouis had one of the most depressing backstory's in anime history. Lets start off with the fact that both his parents died. After that, the whole village hated him and his brother. Then, soon after Alouis wishes the whole village died, Luca, his brother, makes a deal with Hanna (WTF) to kill the whole village. So Luca dies, and Alouis is all alone. OH, and remember that old guy Alouis was with in the first episode, he was a rich guy who took young boys to commit pedophilia with! And alouis was one of the main boys. Anyway, during that secong season i started hating hanna, thinking that she could NEVER gt paid enough for what she goes through, then i started thinking 'im glad Alouis puctured your eye out!" Anyway, my favorite character in that season was Alouis, even though most people hate him. AT the beginning, i was like 'WHO THE FUCK IS THIS KID?' but grew to like him as a character

I can see where you're coming from with this but I do think it was strange how the creators made a sort of barrier of forced miss understanding and lack of info that made everyone hate him. Also I do think they screwed it a bit. Just as I was getting into the backstory of the character and really understanding him they revealed him to be both quite the bastard and rather flimsy(mentally) considering all he's been through.

I agree with you. I watched the first season and I was literally IN LOVE with Ciel Phantomhive, I thought he could do no wrong and he was my age so naturally yeah... So I went months maybe a year without anything of this anime that I loved then I heard about Black Butler II. At the beginning I was upset there was no Ciel and I was constantly comparing Alois to Ciel as well as pausing it and trash talking everything about Alois but then I became very sympathetic to him (which I tend to do with characters of terrible backstories like Alois) and I also saw that Ciel wasn't as great as I thought. Oh I also hate Claude with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns because Alois desperately wanted his attention and love and loyalty but he killed him for another kid who is so much more of an asshole. I also watched Book of Circus which SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ciel did something similar, he betrayed a character who wanted to be his friend and trusted him and tried to help him so he would stay in the circus by killing the only family she has ever had and then her. He (technically Sebastian did it but you know) also burned down a mansion with hundreds of innocent children because he couldn't handle his past, which is extremely traumatic but that doesn't mean you kill a bunch of kids along with three other men. Then once Ciel visited the orphanage that the circus's patron (which Ciel killed but with kinda good reasoning) was funding he discovered that it had been gone for what looked like quite sometime and he laughed! And said (don't quote me) "Haha they all died fighting for something that doesn't even matter (or) exists!".... Even Sebastian was looking at him like ".... wow... you sure you have a soul?"

Hearing you mention that the characters from season 1 are awesome was a little surprising because your season 1 review felt rather devoid of that. That aside, this is in my opinion a very accurate review. I was so irritated at how this second season just should not have existed. I was hoping so much that they'd just redo it and have it follow the manga loyally, because that would be awesome.

Flith Brin nobody is saying that alois didnt have as much as a (if not more of) a traumatic past. and nobody is saying alois shouldnt have to reacted to it like he did, even if he did have a choice not to. alois chose to freeze himself as a extremely immature, annoying child in order to run from his experience. ciel just 1-ups from alois simply because of his reaction is better (deliberately and constantly facing his past, maturing etc), that's all.

I personally enjoyed season 2 but I understand your opinion. I hated the ending to it because it ultimately made no sense. I found myself rooting for Alois and hating Claude because, well, you should know why with claude but Alois had been mistreated and in my opinion, seemingly insane. He tried to help Ciel when he was tricked. I didn't enjoy having new main characters or spiders *shutters* But it's what we got I did also enjoy Book Of Circus and loved how Ciel was grumpy and stuff. I loved the antagonists though. That was my only problem with season 3

I hope you do a season 3 review of book of circus WITH the ova of book of murder. I heard it's going to ACTUALLY follow the manga. Yay! So, I heard that the manga for both of the arks that are coming out is really good. Probably better than season one and season 2. In my opinion, I absolutely LOVED both seasons, but everyone has their own opinions right? So, I recommend you watching the 3rd season and making a review of that season that I believe is only containing 10 episodes.

I hated Alois, but enjoyed Claude for his tap dance was superb. Uhm, while I am a big fan of season 1, season 2 did go down hill, but it surfaced just above lava for me. I was able to stand Alois and deal with the damn weirdass bullshit. And, if you are new to the season I recommend watching season 1 up to ep 15 or 16 then going and start watching season 3 because that picks up there... Confusing. I know. But, it tells us what happens between the end and ep 15/16. And so far I enjoy season 3 a whole lot. Then continue season 1 and at your own choice watch season 2 as if it were the last season. *~* Season 3 is completely worth it for all the characters are lovable. . .

Can I just thank you for trashing Black Butler II? It needed it. Thing is, I actually liked Alois. Not for his personality or actions, but what he REPRESENTED. I liked the IDEA of someone who went through the exact same things as Ciel, but went in the opposite direction. Alois is Ciel's binary opposite, the person he COULD'VE been, but wasn't. They both were sexually abused(though in Ciel's case it's only implied) but their reactions were totally different. Ciel shut down emotionally and closed himself off from other people. Alois became dependant on that physical aspect. Sex was how he expressed himself, was what he believed to be normal. This, of course, makes him sound WAY more interesting than he probably is and since I never actually WATCHED Black Butler II when I found out how it ended I don't really know how annoying he gets. Still, it is this idea that keeps me from totally despising Alois as a character.

Personally i LOVE the second season. I myself cosplay not only Ciel, but Alois. The way everything worked out was great, the plot was amazing and who cares if it wasnt in the manga. I was actually one to watch the anime before reading the manga so i was quite upset to fond out Alois was not in the manga. He is an over all great character. So yea ive said what i needed to.

I loved season one, I thought it was awesome, especially the fight scenes between Sebastian & grell but I don't know what the hell happened in season 2. It made no sense but I did like how tragic the character of alois was. His backstory was even sadder than ciel but It didn't change the fact that he was a winy inconsiderate brat.

I actually loved black Butler 2. I totally agreed with you on basically every aspect of season 1, but I thought they made the plot 5 billion times better in season 2 and generally enjoyed it a lot more. And I LOVED Alois. I don't really know what it is, you love him or you hate him. He is just so insane it makes me giddy, which I am not sure is entirely healthy. On a side not, I've spent a good part of my day watching your reviews and such. Hats off to you for making it so I don't click on one of the tempting anime OP in my related videos.

Since - unlike season 2 - it is a FMA:B case of bringing the show back to follow the manga, and I personally thought that it was a fantastic adaptation of a brilliant arc; and it made me forget all about the atrocity that is Kuroshitsuji ll. So if you do watch Book of Circus or Book of Murder (haven't watched the latter myself yet, but it's a pretty good arc in the manga), pretty please, make a review! x

I don't know..maybe it's because i'm totally obsessed with Sebastian but I just can't stop watching this show. OF COURSE the manga is 1000% better and I really hope that in the new season there will be more of it, unlike the second one. But anyways, I always think that there is no "good" or "bad" anime. Everyone likes different things and maybe some people will absolutely love Alois and Claude and hate Sebastian and Ciel. Although a lot of people think this show is really bad, it is definitely on my list of favourite animes.

No, On January 16, it was announced that Black Butler would be getting another anime adaption, but nothing has been said about it being a Season 3. Although, on January 18, a Black Butler live-action movie did come out.

Season 3 of Black Butler will not be a continuation of the second season (luckily) but an animation of the Noah's Arc Circus Arc of the manga. It is scheduled to come to Japanese TV in July 2014.

This is one series where IMHO (plz don't come at me with torches and pitchforks) the dub exceeds the sub in a few ways. One being that the show is set in England and that the Japanese language doesn't account for accents. Two are J. Michael Tatum, Brina Palencia, Luci Christian, and Jason Douglas's performances. The last two absolutely KILL IT with their incredible performances. Lastly and probably the most important aspect of the English dub is none other than Daniel Frederick's FANTASTIC, spot the fuck on portrayal of Grell. Especially having been his first ever voice over role. But OMGBASSSSIE did he nail it.

This series holds a special place in my heart for having one of the best first episodes in anime. Seriously, I was up at 3 am being bored and hating the show so far, but then that glorious moment Sebastian was reveled, I grinned a smile bigger than the Cheshire cat's.

alois is a okay child, dont get me wrong i like alois but i like ciel better *SPOILER ALERT AHEAD SPOILER ALERT AHEAD i will be including seasons 1,2,3* Ciels back story is when his mansion caught fire on his 10th birthday, when he went to go get help a old man took him away and did bad stuff with him (relax tortured him).later on he summons a demon Sebastian, they make a contract to find out who killed his parents *3 YEARS LATER* Alois trancy village burnt down when he was little to and a old man took alois and did bad stuff to him to (yes he raped alois) *SEASON 3* Hey looks there noahs ark circus but guess what season 2 never exsisted yup read the manga never there anyways u meet people in noahs ark circus later u figure out that there were children getting kidnapped and ciel thinks that it has something to do with the circus when the queen sends him tickets to go there. so when they get there they have to somehow join the circus, later on they do and figure out where the children are. the circus and kelvin have been kidnapping the children, owe wait yea kelvin is a old guy who tortured ciel when he was little. when ciel finds out about kelvin, kelvin takes ciel to the same room where he was tortured and summounded sebastian at. ciel nearly freaks out a little and ends up killing kelvin and everyone at the circus. on the last episode there is something that will probably shock u caused it shocked sebastian *SPOILER* CIEL GOT TRUE LAUGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly I read the manga, watched the anime and found it decent. Then season 2 happened, I was like: "who da fun is this!? Oh, they did that thing I hate didn't they! They abandoned the source material! K bye!" I watched season 2 a year after or so and was fine with it because the manga was decently far ahead where I didn't care anymore since the characters weren't technically canon so whatever, mindless fun. And then I was happier when season 3 was going to follow the manga again. I'd like it to eventually catch up because some of the later arcs are rather interesting though also pretty ridiculous to the point where I think: "wait wut am I reading Hellsing right now?"

i liked the kuro anime BECAUSE it was different than the manga. because of that, no matter if you read the manga or watch the show first, there is no post-story depression and you get to enjoy a fresh outlook on the same lovable characters. it was honestly a genius move on their parts

I just wanted to share some thoughts on the symbolism in season 2. I would like to add more to the relevancy of season two. In season 2 Roses play a huge role in symbolism and the overall theme and message. Summary Deep Pink Roses -Alois graditute for Claude Episode 1 season 2 the flowers in the dining hall Dark Red Rose- Alois love (non sexual) and desire to posses Claude, season 2 the rose garden. Red Roses- passion, Claudes desire to posses Alois soul, how Claude viewed Alois soul at the beginning of their contract. Flash back in Spiders Intention Ova Red Poppies-Alois death and his resurrection Season 2 episode 7 Alois flash back of the funeral Bluebells- Hannah and Lukas everlasting love and devotion for Alois. White roses-purity, Ciels soul, how Sebastain sees Ciel Soul. Last Episode season 2 Blue Roses- the devils lust for that which he will never attain/posses, Ciels soul. Last Episode Season 2. Explanation below Spoiler! The Dark Pink rose that Alois has symbolize gratitude. Dark Pink - shades are most often used to express your thankfulness, gratitude and appreciation. Alois cares deeply for Claude and its most likely because when Alois made his contract with his butler Claude killed the bastard who raped him. There are some red flowers that appear around Alois in a flash during a the old earls funeral that Alois is having as he is bleeding in the carriage. I believe they are Red Poppies. I believe in the Spiders Intention Ova Claude has a flash black of Alois with these flowers around him in the background or red roses. Alois is wearing red garments as well. (season 2 is genius because of the red poppies symbolism but I will get into their meaning later) Symbolism of Red Roses The most common meaning for a red is one of love, passion and romance. So if you want to show a desire or longing to win (or keep) someone’s heart, then red just the thing. It is also used to encourage the recipient or show that you care for the recipient. Symbolism of Dark Red Roses Darker and deep hued varieties like maroon and burgundy really indicate and express the very deepest love, a love that has endured much time. And they also symbolize deep beauty too. So I take it to mean this red flower symbolizes Alois deep passion for Claude. Not in a sexual manner though, just the desire to keep Claude. I also believe the red roses for Claude represented the state of Alois soul at one point in time, from the devils pov Alois' soul was a dark red soaked in passion(desire, torment, anger) . Claude describes his soul to be like a burning flame too. Thus the resason Claude orders the Triplets to fill Alois room with Red Roses. Anyway the red represented Claude's desire to posses Alois' soul, but over time for one reason or another Alois' soul (his anger, torment, desire for revenge) began to cool thus turning the dark red that Claude once hungered for into the shade Deep pink roses instead. This most likely because of Hannah's intervention as we see at one point in The Spider's Intention Ova. Hannah has the triplets to fill Alois room with Bluebells instead of the Red Roses Claude told them to bring. Alois believing that it is Claudes doing cries. I take this to mean Alois' hatred and resolve for revenge gradually softens because he mistakenly believes that Claude cares for him. Bluebells have long been symbolic of humility and gratitude. They are associated with constancy, gratitude and everlasting love. Thus Hannah's and Luka's humble nature and ever lasting devotion and love towards Alois. Extra : Bluebells are also closely linked to the realm of fairies and are sometimes referred to as "fairy thimbles." To call fairies to a convention, the bluebells would be rung. Bluebells are widely known as harebells in Scotland. The name originated due to the hares that frequented the fields covered with harebells. Some sources claim that witches turned themselves into hares to hide among the flowers. So I supposed to say is where is the writer got the idea of Alois thinking of Claude as being a fairy. Season 2 is genius. Another name for bluebells is Dead Man's bells. This is due to the fact that fairies were believed to cast spells on those who dare to pick or damage the beautiful, delicate flowers. The people of Scotland are fond enough of the flower to continue this tradition in the hopes of protecting the little flower. This makes me think Alois and his brother parents Scottish. Anyway back to the flowers. Poppies - have long been used as a symbol of sleep, peace, and death: Sleep because of the opium extracted from them, and death because of the common blood-red color of the red poppy in particular. In Greek and Roman myths, poppies were used as offerings to the dead. Poppies used as emblems on tombstones symbolize eternal sleep. A second interpretation of poppies in Classical mythology is that the bright scarlet colour signifies a promise of resurrection after death. so in season 2 we see the flashback of Alois surrounded by red poppies, the flower is actually the artist subtle foreshadowing of Alois' death and resurrection. thus the genius of season 2. where Black Butler is normally outlandish and action-packed season 2 had a beautiful subtle and deeper meaning with its characters and stories. Anyway theres a deeper symbolism to the color of the flowers and the souls that Hannah and Claude possessed relating to nirvana. I will simply saying when you mix red and blue you get purple. Purple represents enlightenment. But thats a topic for later. Now for Sebastian and Ciel in the white and blue roses, At the end of season 2 you see Sebastian and Ciel standing on a cliff surrounded by white and blue roses. White Roses - This is a color that symbolizes peace and tranquility. White rose flowers are often used for bridal bouquets and at weddings. Of course this virginal shade also conveys innocence and purity. Because of this, you can see them used in churches and not just for weddings. They’re both angelic and spiritual and perfect for religious events and celebrations such as communions and christenings as well as wedding vows. They represent Ciel's soul. Blue Roses - This is not a natural shade for this flower at all so they have to be genetically engineered to create this color or dyed instead. Blue rose is that it symbolizes the impossible, or the unattainable. Since the blue rose itself is a rarity in nature, it stands for something that is hardly within one's grasp, an object that seems too difficult to be achieved. Thus the blue rose is admired and revered as an unrealizable dream. A flight of fancy, an irrepressible imagination is what the blue rose is all about. They represent Sebastian never being able to attain Ciel's soul and Ciel's soul being a rare soul. And this is why seasons 2 ending was just fine in fact brilliant. Because the roses symbolize the devil never being able to possess the soul, the purest part of a human. The White Rose symbolize eternal vow of Sebastian being Ciel's Butler. But I also like to think that Yana thinks of Ciel as being Sebastian's bride, (it's probably the reason why so many fans dislike the ending because they realize that Sebastian will never be theirs.) The blue roses represent it the Devils lust. both Sebastian and Claude wanted that which they could never have, a pure soul, Ceil's soul. Book of Circus and Book of Murders are my favorite seasons of Black Butler overall. The characters seem to actually have more personality, the story line always stays on track, fillers and fan service is almost nonexistent, it's based off of the manga, the comedy is actually relevant to the story a lot of times, and the animation and opening/closing themes are freakin' amazing.

I recently went back and watched Kuroshitsuji again. I still have yet to partake in the second season as its existence infuriates me. I don't care that Sebastian and Ciel are back. I don't want them back. Their story is done, fine, complete, etc., etc.. To paraphrase a famous animator, Kuroshitsuji (Season 1) is like a high-class dessert. You slowly take it in bit by bit, savoring each moment until that last scene. When you've completed this season, you may want more, but what you had was superb and you wouldn't want it any other way. Now for a comparison of my own. Kuroshitsuji is like Raiden's sub-plot in Metal Gear Solid 4. At the end, everything is "tied up into a nice little bow" as you like to say. Kuroshitsuji II is like Metal Gear Rising. Raiden's story was complete and he was supposed to be free to spend time with his family. Take a break from all the war and violence, but instead of (permanently) passing the torch to someone else, they pass the torch and then yank it out of the new characters' hands despite the fact their time is over. I seem to be rambling now, but I just wanted to state the reason why I did not and will not watch the second season.

Well from what i know of plot driving and writer tactics, Alois was perfectly made for his role. you have the main protagonist Ciel, the anti-hero Sebastian, and the "secret" antagonist that was revealed in season 1. With the loss of the main drive for emotional response being (formerly) Grell, that crazy angel, and the love obsessed Queen...we needed a new person to hate for our love of Ciel/Sebastian. So they made a good foil to Ciel; dramatic, prissy, "romance" driven.... but with a eerily similar but differnt backstory. Both lost parents, was hated, sold off to some random group, and made an eventual contract with a demon to get out of said situation. Alois is a sounding board for Ciel's actions, the more we hate Alois, the more we love Ciel. The more Alois creeps up on "our man" (

Though, I am a bit worried about how they're gonna "end" it. The Murder Mystery arc is after it, and is going to be covered by an OVA, but what about after that? Are they going to just...stop?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that this season was supposed to be more of a "what if" scenario instead of a serious sequel. But I always got the feeling from watching that it was intentionally a very different tone from the first season, and I absolutely loved it.

You should review Yu Yu Hakusho next. It's my favorite anime which I know sounds ridiculous because it's shonen, but I originally watched it when I was a kid and it was on toonami and the nostalgia was just insane. It's one of the few shonen with a legitimate ended at "only" 113 episodes.

I watched the first episode of season 2 and as soon as I saw alois I fangirled he's not even that bad of a character really. I mean all of the reviews I watch always say stuff about alois , I mean really he's a great character. everyone is just mad because they thought it would be a horrible idea to bring a new a character in but I love love loved the idea!♡ Alois Trancy is great so shut up!

I watched it on Netflix, when it only had the second season. I didn’t realize it was the second season until I was a few episodes in, so I continued watching it. The end was kinda confusing, but having not seen the first season, I didn’t think it was that bad. Upon learning that the first season ended really well, it does negate the second season and makes it kinda not canon.

The ending was actually good imho. My problem with the entire thing was that the pacing went from a good amount to an insane speed, and every time you thought you were nearing the end they added another obstacle to the plot, like the carrot on a stick routine. As for the story itself and how they ended things, I think it was perfect in all honesty. It just fit the atmosphere.

I actually only watched Black Butler because of Alois Trancy, even though he first showed at season two ^^ He's my favorite charachter, and I was really sad at the end... I thought he was very scary and unstable at the start, but I kept liking him, and in the end I was completely broken, and now I really love him ^_^ I never really liked Sebastian or Ciel that much, I think Alois was more interesting and more...real ^^ All he wanted was someone who would love him, and I really liked that :3 I thought he was a very tragic charachter, of course Ciel too :) But somehow I couldn't really take Ciel and Sebastian serious, but at Alois I thought it was more dark, desperate and just sad... but that's just my opinion! ^.^ I like Cie too, but I love Alois :3

the one thing that confuses me the most in the second season is when Ciel turns into a demon then sebastian says "i'll never be able to devour your soul" and then Ciel says "you'll remain my butler until you'd devour my soul" CAN YOU'RE SOUL BE EATEN OR NOT!?

That was the point, he was taunting Sebastian. Sebastian is forced to follow through with all of Ciel's orders before he can eat his souls, so since Ciel gave the order for Sebastian to remain his servant until he eats his soul he has to do just that. Then we come to the end of season two and Sebastian was basically screwed because he was unable to eat Ciel's soul since he became a demon and since he's now unable to eat his soul he has to now spend eternity being Ciel's faithful servant.
