We were able to obtain more consistent results when putting the vehicle in FWD mode. Boost was much more consistent and there was less surge. Results may vary due to weather, humidity, and heat-soak. HP and Torque numbers are used by LIMIT+1 as a tool for before and after comparison only and may not represent the actual WHP of the vehicle.

I really hope this dyno makes the rounds on social media and the media articles written. Although a bit high reading, since in FWD mode, this is correctly done dyno test.

Sixth Element Engineering just did a dyno test on a GR Corolla. They used a dynojet, STD correction, in FWD, and it put down 270.68whp. Don't know if they used dyno mode, or if the used some other trick. According to the Japanese, and on the GR Yaris, dyno mode is suppose to give 6ps more. So, that would be 278whp w/dyno mode, if they used some other trick, and not dyno mode.

They did not use Dyno mode, and they are going to redo the dyno test.

Would you happen to know if the dyno you went to, might have a CTR dyno to compare to? FWD vs FWD?

Finally, a properly dyno'd GR Corolla in dyno mode (aka FWD mode).

These videos just prove FWD power is not the same as AWD power and shows what kind of drivetrain loss you see in AWD vehicles. It honestly makes AWD cars that can dyno in AWD look more impressive because their numbers include drivetrain loss. It’s kind of like saying dyno a WRX in FWD only form so you can get a higher horsepower number.
@copperkeyracing6167
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
@The Most Smoke Crew Totally agree, except that you can't dyno a WRX in FWD, and you can't dyno a GR Corolla in AWD, just as you can't dyno a Focus RS in AWD, because the way the AWD systems are made the rear wheels are overdriven and the simulated environment, that is a dyno, fights the AWD system in the car... and either breaks the AWD system, puts the car in limp mode, and/or it just doesn't put out anything near correct. So, in actuality, NO, it doesn't work that way, but WE WISH it would so we could know the difference in the drivetrain loss between FWD and AWD. Unfortunately, we will never know what power a Focus RS really puts down, what a GR Corolla really puts down, and what the motor taken out of any car really puts out (aka crank hp), all we can do is make assumptions, and that's what a dyno can help with... although, the real and best test, is a roll race against another car, since traction (we hope) is taken out of the equation. My guess would be 280whp in a real environment AWD mode, but we will only know by a side by side roll race test... which does equate to 280whp. Next test, would be to put the GR Corolla in FWD mode, and do a roll race against a CTR. Should split the difference between an FK8 and FL5. Beat the FL5 barely, and lose to the FK8 barely.

I was wondering if these should be done in FWD similar to the Focus RS. They use similar tech for the AWD with a higher gear ratio in the rear.

@@opadilla123 Bigger is ALWAYS better, right? Like why buy a turbo car [Supra], when you can buy a V8 [Mustang]... hmmm, yeah, not a good argument. When a strong 4cyl is made and it takes decades to be noticed (kseries) by everyone, and then everyone wishes they owned one back in the day... well, the tuners , like myself, will tell you that this 3CYL is what a kseries was 22years ago. Under-appreciated, but simply AMAZING! And this one is even more AMAZING, and has shown more potential earlier in the game. 550whp is the current record on the stock block after 2years of the lessor motor being on the market. This motor has upgrades all over (valvesprings, cams, pistons, larger valves, fuel system, updated head, oil cooler, turbo, exhaust, and intake funnel). The kseries took 6years to get to where this engine is, in just 2years.

@@copperkeyracing6167 ummm… the k series was N/A when it came out of course it would take longer. When the k20c1 came out how long did it take to make over 600 on a completely stock motor. This 3 cylinder will not be anything remotely close to a k series… they’re are going to be plenty of people k swapping their Corolla just like lotus and mr2.

fwd mode?
@copperkeyracing6167
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a "built into the car" mode, also called inspection mode, also called dyno mode. There is a sequence of brake pedal and hand brake presses to enter this mode. Like a Focus RS, it's the only way to properly dyno the GR Corolla.

What happened to 300 hp
@copperkeyracing6167
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
This is to the tires reading, which read 295whp, 298whp, and 299whp (wheel hp). The rating given by the manufacture is at the crank (motor output) shaft, which is 300hp. There is drivetrain losses of 14% typically for cars in FWD, which means this car is very underrated, like the Supra. The 2020 Supra was rated 335hp and it put down 340whp. For RWD, there is typically 17% loss. Add up to 5% extra loss with heavier/bigger wheels than are typical. Assuming 14% for FWD, and 17% for RWD, this would mean the 2020 Supra is actually 410hp, and the 2023 GR Corolla is 348hp.

@@copperkeyracing6167 If those hp numbers you quote are accurate, to you, do they correlate with field observed 0-60 and lap times? the GR corolla looked slow to me (as did most new 300ish hp cars). Perhaps my perspective is off and I'm expecting them to be faster for no reason.
@copperkeyracing6167
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
@@dancingcalcium No, those numbers are high. With acceleration tests, in the real world, which can not be replicated on a dyno, because the GR Corolla cannot be dyno'ed in AWD... the correct reading would be 280whp. I think that if you put it into FWD mode, which is the only dyno mode available, then there is less loss, and it puts down 300whp. The best comparison is against its competitors which are close in hp and weight, which would be the CTRs and Elantra N. FK8 CTR in a roll race, pulls 3 car lengths on the GR Corolla, weighs 150lbs less, and puts down 290whp. 70lbs of bolted down mass is 1 car length, so that's 2 car lengths for the 150lbs, then the last car length is for every 6hp less is one car length, so conservatively 280whp. The Elantra N DCT is about dead even in a roll race, is 280whp, and 30lbs more (but the DCT shifts faster), so in reality the Elantra DCT is ahead by just a bit in roll race depending on shifting skill of the GR Corolla driver. The Elantra N manual is 2 car lengths slower in a roll race, puts down 260whp, and 80lbs less. 3 cars loss due to hp, and 1 car gained back for weight, and that's 2 car lengths back... and there you have 280whp GR Corolla, not 300whp... and that's fine, but correct at 300whp in FWD mode... so, we need a roll race against a CTR vs a GR Corolla in FWD mode to see if it works out.
@copperkeyracing6167
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
@@dancingcalcium Perspective is everything. You can't compare it to cars with 100s of hp more, and only 500lbs more... aka modern muscle cars that put down in the low 430whp range. Trap speeds at the 1/4mile is the quickest easiest comparison, and the GR Corolla traps 105mph, which is dead even with the Elantra N DCT & Focus RS, slower than the CTRs, faster than the 2018-21 STi, and faster than the 22 WRX. This is all by trap speed #s. Modern V8 Muscle cars all trap over 108mph (Mustang GT traps 115mph), no where close. Only the faster CTR traps 110mph (fk8 limited), standard fk8 CTR traps 108mph, and current FL5 traps 106mph. Mk8 Golf R DCT traps 111mph. So, you can compare the older CTRs and Golf R DCT to the slowest V8 muscle cars, but not the GR Corolla, it's just not quite there. A little too much weight, and a bit too low in hp... but close... so, not bad.
