The boys head to Tustin Toyota to pick up the new 2023 Toyota GR Corolla for the shop. After removing some unnecessary dealer add-ons, Alex drives the Corolla around (including a local car meet) to complete the break-in requirement before taking it to Danny at Unrivaled Tuning. Wait till you see these Dyno results!

@@JustDriven Watch you put an intake on and gain 50hp, when intakes gave the GR Yaris practically nothing according to Motive Garage. Which is more the reason to dyno again in dyno mode only, and get some consistent back-to-back numbers. FWD test 1st, and then beat on it in AWD mode if you wish.

Yo Alex. I daily the IS-F now haha. Trying to take care of it but I don't have a garage. The GR Corolla is nice. The dyno number is definitely lower than I expected. But 300hp to the crank (on estimate), seems pretty on par with 242whp. I see the channels growing. Hope all is well. Looking forward to keeping up with this build, excited for it.

Which is fine, I currently have a VB and plan on getting a GRC in a few years to go with it. Rally cars are about traction and acceleration on loose/rough surfaces, they're not muscle cars. 400whp, can be had for basically the same price as a WRX or GRC (sans markup), 2 seconds faster than either to 60. If I wanted to go fast in a straight line or pretend I'm some street race bro, it's what I'd get. If you want tear up a twisty backroad I'd personally rather have a WRX/GRC or a Miata/BRZ, but for people who are constantly crying about fun cars being too slow, it seems like a good deal.

Yeah, 44k is a little steep for what the Circuit offers, and that's just at MSRP. I paid 36 for my Premium out the door. That's over 10 grand for similar performance and some features that don't really interest me (diff settings, drive modes). TBH, in a couple years if I want a second car I'll probably get a BRZ since it's cheap and would compliment the WRX. It would be tough to justify a GRC as a second car if I already have a WRX. And by the time you can get one at MSRP, there might be an STI.

You seriously expected 10% drivetrain loss from a PERMANENT mechanical AWD car? about 230whp in AWD mode should be it. The GR Yaris has around 20-22% drivetrain loss, as any normal oldschool Evo or STI etc. Odd numbers on the FWD test though, should be 250-260 WHP. tq/hp curves look perfectly normal. No interruption detected by the onboard systems which would cause it to drop and fluctuate lots past 5-5.5k rpm as in some other cases. Drive it for another 1k miles, it'll do a bit more.

@@JustDriven pretty sure the GR Yaris is about $10-15k cheaper than even the base GR rolla here in Aus. So call the Yaris $7k cheaper USD than the equivalent spec GR Carolla. For perspective my Yaris cost $48k AUD. Retail for a new one is closer to $55 for the standard spec and north of $60k for the Rallye spec now. Toyota isn't moving on the retail as the small production means they're sold out for the next two years here. The "base spec" GR Carolla is expected to cost about $65-70k (I still haven't heard final aus prices) with the fancy one closer to $80k by the time you're out the door of the dealership. For those playing at home, there was an introductory offer for the first batch of Yaris's that was $40k AUD drive away. So call it $28k USD in today's exchange. Half what the full fat Carolla is going to cost here. Toyota did the deal to generate interest and get the sales up in order to sell the required numbers before the homologation date for the WRC. Silly them. Although I missed it as I initially thought "eh, it will just be another Yaris with racing stripes, big wheels and maybe a few extra horses" ...not realising what they'd actually built.

Hub dyno is a reading at the hubs which has less losses and less variables. Back to back runs they are within + or - 1/2hp, while the correct reading dyno (a dynojet) is + or - 2hp. So, yes, and, no, it is the most accurate.
@copperkeyracing6167
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
@@strifu808 In general, dynapacks are high reading, and mustang dynos are low reading. Both can output conversions to the correct reading, which is dynojet. The mustang dyno test must have had the conversion to raise the numbers to dynojet results, AND that car was done in AWD mode and made 252whp and was very inconsistent since the car was fighting the dyno (Focus RS has the same issue). The next day, after they did their homework, they put it in dyno mode, which is FWD, and it put down 295, 298, and 299whp. I think the car in the vid went into limp mode from so many runs and so few miles on the engine. Not enough learning to realize everything was ok... then, they decided dyno mode was best... and it was still in limp mode🤦‍♂️

@Vermonstered
@Vermonstered Жыл бұрын
Do you know the difference between whp and at the crank HP? There's no way the GR Corolla is making 298whp. That would mean it's making in the realm of 350-375 to the crank and the car is slow as mud if it's pushing 375 crank HP. It's just some random correction factor limit+1 put into the figures vs actual to the ground power shown here.
@copperkeyracing6167
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
@@Vermonstered Ask yourself that same question... and after you read and understand what I wrote carefully... then, find out how much power the 335hp rated 2020 Supra puts down... let me help you, 340whp. Let me also help you on what dyno mode is. Dyno mode is a setting that puts the car so that there is no fighting with the dyno, and puts the car in fwd mode. Yes, in dyno mode it made 295fwhp. 298fwhp, and 299fwhp, back to back runs. When he did not have it in dyno mode, it made 252awhp with the fighting with the dyno. This is the same exact issue with the Focus RS. Welcome to modern day underrated cars, and modern day all wheel drive systems. It's more like 340hp at the crank in fwd mode (14% loss is typical in FWD), but has more losses in AWD mode (20% is typical in AWD, and thus is not as fast from a roll in AWD.... had he raced the competitors in FWD mode, it would probably be 3cars faster, which would tie a CTR... which is also about 335hp, but underrated and 70lbs lighter. Limit +1 did not use a correction factor like you speak of, go ask him. It's a Mustang Dyno, and he's as dumbfounded of the results as you are.

@@copperkeyracing6167 😂 You're always good for a laugh. Now after you come back down to Earth after attempting to inflate your ego and trying to live up to the story you already wrote in your head because that's how personal you take the GR Corolla... maybe listen... 1) This isn't a Supra with a BMW B58 motor in it. Don't compare it to it, and Toyota doesn't even get the spicest version of the B58. This motor doesn't hold a candle to the B58 in regards to how BMW or most German companies now rate their cars at whp and not crank horsepower. 2) "Dyno mode" isn't magic and every dyno has correction factors available to output onto the dyno plot. This is where you add in factors like barometric pressure, temperature to try and correct against a standard. Be it SAE or even yes, power at the crankshaft estimation. Even in the comments the owner states they turned on the test mode and even in the video they do runs in FWD test mode. 3) "Welcome to modern day underrated cars, and modern day all wheel drive systems." Your guesstimates for FWD and AWD drivetrains are VERY optimistic. You're simply regurgitating what someone else told you. Real life? Closer to 15-20% for FWD, 20-25% RWD and unsurpsurprisingly (well except for you) AWD has the most with the most wheels driven is 20-28% loss. If we assume the motor, which was put into FWD test mode, obviously as they tested it as FWD, output 242hp which equates to 19% drivetrain loss for a drive mode that it's not optimized for assuming 300 crank hp goals, 282hp if we take your idealistic loss guess - Entirely within expectation. 4) "It's more like 340hp at the crank in fwd mode" Your math is off. It's closer to what I stated earlier, anywhere from 350-370whp even if we use your idealistic powertrain losses. Please tell me a car with this much power and weighs just over 3200lbs that can only trap at 101mph? Elantra N traps at 103.9. The real world 280-290 crank horsepower of the last generation Subaru WRX STi in a car 200-300 lbs heavier traps at 101mph. Again, I know you're all about writing some story in your head but again no, real world data shows this car doesn't make the amount of power a guy who's posting for clicks says it does. 5) AGAIN - you're showing you don't know the difference between whp and crank hp. A car with 300whp and is 3200lb doesn't accelerate this slow. You need to remove the 'racing' from your name as you obviously have no racing or tuning pedigree.

That being said, the dyno at Apex'i was one of the first Dynapacks in the US and is running on their very first calibration. it reads about ~15-20% lower than other Dynapacks. Church's in Wilmington reads a bit optimistic, about 5-7% over.

Dyno'd a Volvo v70r with the 5 speed auto (yes the AWD functioned). 300 crank HP and it put down about 220-225 at the wheels - this was with 200k miles on the engine. I'd think with this car having a manual that definitely has less drivetrain loss it should have been around 230-240awhp. Also I just noticed this is a hub dyno and those usually read slightly higher anyway. You may need a few hundred more miles on the break in or maybe you were running it in too low of a gear. GM tends to do the same under rating the power only to find out that the engine has more and the specs are close to whp.
