This is one épisode where the French actors, in this case actresses, namely Denise Darcel really play their parts extrêmely and convincingly well. After playing in such movies as Vera Cruz, this épisode of Combat was her last official rôle. Denise could have done more but never took cinéma too seriously. Born in 1925, Denise left us in 2011. Happy to see Rick Jason play a full rôle in this épisode. Merci pour le téléchargement.

A very good friend growing up had parents involved in WWII France. Dad was a GI, and Mom was a member of the French Resistance. He brought her home after the war ended. She had lost everything, and he lost many friends. The stories they told us kids were all about their love! My favorite was Dad not understanding how their 1st child was born 9 1/2 months after their marriage day!😊!" What the hell happened to those 15days?" They fell in love in France and it continued and flourished for the rest of their lives!😊! The stories I heard from them as an adult were scary and serious as hell!

My dad had an Air Force issue .45. He home-made some hollow points when he went hunting elk, for in case he ran into a Grizzly. The .45 had big stopping power, but not very accurate. I've heard it said if you got hit with a .45, you went down, no matter where it hit you. But, close range only. German pistols were better engineered, and probably had a bigger capacity mag. But clearly, this Kepler guy would lift anything that seemed even remotely valuable and light enough to carry.

@@TheEvilDrR As a range operator/firearms instructor/competitive shooter I can tell you that any inaccuracy was NOT due to the 1911 but to the dismal lack of real marksmanship training of the shooter. My rack grade 1911A1 and issue hardball WILL find a bad guy at 100M and beyond. And issue .45 hardball is NOT magic. Hit 'em in the elbow and you still have work to do on that target. However at the time it was formulated and adopted, it was MUCH more effective than the .38 Long Colt revolvers it replaced.

"billb2479," Understand your point, but in THIS instance, after unholstering Hanley's .45 he hefts it a couple seconds; THEN when called away by his departing squad HE LEAVES IT. 'Crazy' I know, but I played it back 4 or 5 times to confirm: boche did NOT depart the supposed dead lieutenant's position with the cherished .45. . . . Adding to the incredulous action, WHY did Hanley just 'leave it there' after the enemy's exit?

Wait a minute, I thought Sunders had always been the platoon Sargent. Isn't supposed to be just 1 sarge for platoon? I love this show, I used to watch it with my dad when I was a kid. It's much much better than I remember it to be!

When platoon leaders are injured or killed then the next in line would be any officer or Sargents Saunders in this case to take over a squad leader at any time until releaved.
@dindinprivate34777 жыл бұрын
Saunders was a buck sergeant - that is a squad sergeant (no rockers under his stripes). When the platoon sergeant was killed he was temporarily moved up to fill in the position.

The lieutenant shouldn’t have thrown his canteen away and he shouldn’t of left his weapon on that hill you don’t do that stuff but it’s a great show anyway I’ve watched every episode many times I know that’s all just Hollywood.

@@TheEvilDrR When a professional soldier is in the enemy's territory with the likelihood of SECONDS count -- death is just a firefight away -- THAT irresponsible attitude about getting a replacement carbine once he's back at hq or a command position is guaranteed to get him shipped in a box to Arlington Nat'l Cemetery and a 21-gun salute. Aside from the M1 Carbine Lt. Hanley TOTALLY lucked out when the despicable, lowlife of the enemy squad stole his watch, but for some unknown reason left the Colt 1911 pistol behind, despite removing it from Hanley's holster and hefting it in his hand for a couple seconds. But the lieutenant ignored it; left it in the foxhole. . . For awhile he DID have the security of his carbine, but senselessly let 'it' go astray. In his slow trek through recent skirmish and bombed out zones, surely he could have scrounged up an American or German discarded weapon PLUS ammo. Even though his canteen was dry, certainly foolish to toss it aside as eventually he'll come upon a fresh water source and can fill it full to its top -- for life-saving use on his long trek getting back behind his lines.

At the start of this episode, the shelling... one thing that drives me NUTS with this show and others like it are some of the sound effects. All the big BOOMS in this show have a weird two-stage sound, like "Kahhh (long pause) BOOOOOOoooom." Real explosives of that type are a very sharp CRACK, not a long, drawn-out sound. And the bark of the Mauser 98's, kind of a deep "KerCHUNG", another two-stage sound. I know, stupid nit-picking. Oh yes, when they show distant shelling, you hear the boom exactly when the shell hits; again, real life, there can be a significant delay. Sound isn't instantaneous. OK, I'll stop it with the coffee now, and find something worthwhile to bitch about!
@snakewrithing9 жыл бұрын
+KurtB Really? In Nam we sometimes heard the whistling and we could also sometimes hear when the enemy fired. What we did not hear was the one that fell on your position. The sound is more of a Whump.
@kurtbjorn9 жыл бұрын
Arthur Johnson You'd know more than me, certainly, but whistling shells? I guess it depends upon the type. The speed of sound is what it is. If you were on the end of say a German 88 shell delivered on a flat trajectory, you'd not hear a thing, the projectile is way supersonic. But a lofted howitzer or mortar, yes the sound of the launch will definitely outrun the shell. Thanks.
@snakewrithing9 жыл бұрын
+KurtB I was a Scout Sgt for an artillery unit. You can hear outgoing and incoming. The incoming has a soft woosh sound. The whistle come from the band that binds the charge to the shell. Sometimes it is not left behind. At the Cua viet we could hear the 152 MM's firing. Wump. Then woosh then Kawump. Artillery does not always explode on land. (HEPD) Some are vectored. They explode x amount of distance in the air. VT Fuse. Different sound altogether. Mortars have a totally different sound. A Flat Trajectory is direct Fire. Only used against bunkers or armor and sometimes with flechette rounds against enemy soldiers. 3 tours I heard them all.

I watched this show as a kid and was always bummed out that the Germans wore uniforms that looked good, whereas the Americans wore oversized, wrinkled uniforms that looked like they'd been picked out of a Goodwill bin. This doesn't square with the reality that it was the Americans, not the Germans who had the money to outfit their soldiers with the best equipment.
