Since I don't know what the lawsuit is about other than the individual has just passed the mileage and had suffered an engine failure. For those who are having oil starvation issues on track with righthand turns, there will be a cure as soon a Verus has the data from their prototype sumps, and start selling the final for production variant. A fella (900 BRZ) who was gathering field track condition data, is working with Verus on this sump and I gave him information, as to seek an engineer and some tips as to what is needed in the design. Verus is designing this sump to work with the existing exhaust header system.

Very interested in this, I’ll be keeping my eye on verus for more information! Thank you for sharing

Warren is 100% correct. Formula Delta has a pan coming out as well. They found that the oil pump goes through the entire volume of oil every 6-7 seconds and during cornering the oil just can't drain back fast enough. RTV isn't really the problem with oil starvation. Oil capacity is the main culprit.
@gr8_6702 ай бұрын
You may want to do more research into the new gens, rtv is not an issue with these engines, the oil pan has no baffles and if you take a long turn with high Gs it’ll starve the engine of oil, if rtv was the problem it wouldn’t only be track cars which are under these more extreme conditions having failures, I think Toyota/Subaru should still warranty the engine for this mistake though, if you have a new gen be careful when tracking it or you can buy an aftermarket oil pan with baffles
@Woopsgarage2 ай бұрын
I don’t have a second gen car yet but I’ve considered it. I do believe Tomei was making a baffle for the second gen cars already but has anyone else put a pan/baffle on the market that you know of? And I agree I think it would be wise for them to cover the oil failures under the warranty.

All subaru boxers have oil starvation problems. People not knowing how to use the forums and being ignorant is what gives these bad names. Need to do more research. You can't just drive a subaru hard because you want to be negligent. It's user error. Stop blaming manufacturers when you modify anything lol yall are clowns

I agree, I think the FA is still suffering growing pains as more people learn and explore the platform. Oiling issues are pretty well documented on Ej’s and there’s some pretty good options to combat them. As time goes on I expect will see the same from the FA Powered cars.

@@Woopsgarage I guess a big factor of these engine failures rely on how people treat their 86s, like any car really. Pushing it without taking proper measures can definitely hinder it. But either way, if it's a sports car, then it should be able to perform at high levels without someone having the fear of it breaking. Especially if they're stock. Hope subaru and toyota will take this issue seriously.
@Woopsgarage2 ай бұрын
@bsideju3001 absolutely! I would always urge anyone pushing these cars even in stock form to be performing beyond the expected maintenance. As a long time Subaru owner/enjoyer I think it goes without saying that boxer engines require that little bit of extra love and attention.

I've been I've been auto-crossing my BRZ for the last two years with occasional track days as well. I keep the oil half a quart past full, and I haven't had any issues. In fact, I don't know anyone in the Austin or San Antonio clubs that have had any issues either, and there are a lot of Gen2 BRZ/GR86 cars. Based on that knowledge, I think this is a click bait thing where a handful of incidents have everyone over reacting. That said, I will be installing an Accusump in the following year unless Verus new oil pan/baffle does the trick.

100% I know people with 200k on original engine in first gen cars that definitely abuse them. Definitely second the accusump plan though, cheap insurance in comparison to the alternative of maybe replacing an engine.

What happened to me was that I was driving and i heard a weird noise coming from my exhaust that sounded like rod knock and next thing I knew my temps shot to 280 degrees from 192. So my car overheated and I had it towed to a dealership. The dealership said that there was no coolant or oil in the car even though I check both of those 2 days prior of the motor blowing. I've taken my car to 2 dealerships and both have said the same thing. Over use and over rev. Both dealerships wanted $14-$16k for a new engine and i said screw that so i tried to go after my warranty with corporate and they also said my warranty as been denied. One dealership even said i had a aftermarket ecu in my car even though i didnt. Like I know messing with the ecu voids your warranty immediately. Hopefully this lawsuit gives us 2nd gen owners some info on what will happen with people that have blown their motors and are not getting warranty for it.

I have a recently purchased a gr86 and continually watching videos on how to replace & check for Rtv in pickup tube videos. Seems to me it would take a lot of miles for silicon to plug up pickup tube to to the point of catastrophic failure. I believe there are gaskets available from Fel-Pro that would permanently alleviate this problem but no one ever seems to go this route, instead they just put more RTV on the situation. Perhaps there's a cost-benefit but there's no sense in putting gasoline on the fire. The gr86 / BRZ just a cheap 😂Porsche and they had to cut corners. There are other oil starvation issues that exists in hard corners where g-forces prevent adequate lubrication.

Hi New Friends I own a 2022 GR86 and very concerned about RTV so went to a dealer in Washington State near Seattle and ask 3 different dealers about engine check RTV so they mentioned that it’s a Subaru engine so they Refused to do an inspection in the oil pan the inspection cost around $400-900 dls since it requires 3 hours of labor.!!!! So I contacted Toyota and I got a ridiculous response indicating that only when the red light flashes on the dash I have to Pay for an inspection!!! Without warranty the vehicle only has 5000 miles and is for sale since I Don’t trust Toyota anymore!!

@@chrisparsons788 My biggest fear on the m5 is my rod bearings but it’s fun to push because it’s a performance vehicle. 183 torque and 228hp when your biggest fail point is the engine due to oil starvation? The only performance you’re getting is handling with those and hence should’ve been driven as such. Redline limit is 7000 so there’s no case and no chance of warranty. Going fast is fun, redlining isn’t. But completely that’s only my opinion everyone is allowed to take their own risks but a price will always be paid😭 sorry for your loss hopefully you get it fixed or get something new soon
