As the manufacture of The SolidMount™, we do not recommend the modification that is suggested in part 2 of this video. The modification was not tested to hold the weight or the pull-out that The SolidMount™ was

Another problem I've had with these is that when you screw on the plate, the inside threaded plastic piece spins on the lag bolt, even if you tighten it down hard. At that point there's no way to recover and take the plate off. You end up with a gap between the fiberglass wall and the plate. There needs to be some sort of locking mechanism for the threaded part to the bolt.
@LazerModels3 жыл бұрын
Bob, your not tightening the lag bolt tight enough. Let the lag bolt dig into the top of the threaded part and it will never spin again because the lag bolt holds it

Thanks for this tutorial. Much appreciated. Side note, has anyone ever told you that your voice sounds very similar to Dennis Franz of NY PD Blue?

Why do you need to cut such a large hole in the fiberglass?
@TheSolidMount2 жыл бұрын
The large hole alows for a shift of up to 3/8". This is incase the stud has a slight bow in it of if you are off-center some.

Do you have to hit a stud? I thought it was hollow behind the shower wall?
@homeishygge3 жыл бұрын
Yes you need to hit a stud
@robertsapien50952 жыл бұрын
My son is attempting this at this moment on a friends home. Got to point of drilling the small hole to search for stud. Can’t seem to find it, much insulation obstructs view. Wire probe not helping. Have you ever seen framing done in some unconventional way that doesn’t follow 16 inch center rule?

Sometimes it could be 20 in on center.

I don't like leaks behind my shower tub. I'm going to just epoxy the mounts and see how that works.
@TheSolidMount3 жыл бұрын
Meowmix4U, you do not end up with leaks in your shower. This is no different than the shower valve that was drilled in your shower from day one. Also, if you plan to epoxy your bars in place, I can guarantee 2 things,,, 1. They will not be solid as the fiberglass wall is not solid. That is why The SolidMount™ is installed into studs. 2. Epoxy will fail.

I would have cut a 1/2" thick piece of plywood with the 2" hole saw instead of canonicalizing a $40-$60 Grab Bar Mount.
@Mark4Jesus2 жыл бұрын
These things are too expensive sorry. I don't want to pay $50 extra to mount it inside when I can just mount it just outside the fiberglass on the wall. It's only for an elderly person to get in and out of the tub in my case.
