Does that mean you are a Grace newbie! Welcome to the fandom! If so, here's a starter kit: Maybe start with listening to her first EP "Perfectly Imperfect", which is, perfect (she was 12 at the time). Try her LP "Just The Beginning" (aged 13) and from that in particular sample a couple of tracks "Darkness Keeps Chasing Me" and "Escape My Mind" or "Sick of Being Told" for a mix or serious and fun stuff. Try "MTV Push" cover of Leon Bridge's "River", this is utterly superb but as a cover it is unusual in that mostly Grace writes and sings her own songs. Grace singing "Clearly" live on Colbert's show; it's her best band/live performance yet, I think, but the James Corden Escape My Mind is awesome too. Other live stuff: the live set at Austin City Limits #1, her premier of Moonlight at VidCon, the original I don't Know My Name audition on AGT, Clay at the AGT finals, her solo appearance at the Special Olympics Winter, her Darkness Keeps Chasing Me at MTV rooftop or the Tiny Desk set....She is awesome ...

It's an effective technique to make a given chord sound "thick" or "fat". For example, Revolution by the Beatles is played in both 'B' and 'B flat'. It gives an otherwise straightforward shuffle a thick sound. Also, the keyboard tech for the great Canadian band Rush, tunes Lee's '5th A' at 'A flat' to augment Lifeson's standard guitar tuning. These are advanced techniques that Grace, much to her credit, has already mastered! Well done, young Lady!👍 🤓

Thank you. Somehow it seems I’m the only one who can’t make out a lot of the lyrics when she sings. She’s good and all but I definitely feel frustrated not making out the words.

"I don't know my name" was great; but this is the tune and performance that convinced me that Grace is a song-writing prodigy.

And that’s exactly what happened to me. Could not believe ‘I Don’t Know My Name’ . Great little tune all on it’s own. But unbelievable coming from a 12 year old little girl. But when THIS song happened I think everybody knew that her first song was no fluke. And if this one didn’t do it for people, she has a third and FOURTH!!!!! WHAM WHAM!!! in the following weeks. She puts the ‘one of a kind’ in ‘one of a kind’. And now with an EP and ALBUM with epically written stuff at 13!!!!!! years old. Has this ever been done before? She has to have broken some sort of record to have this much original material that is so good and catchy and deep and diverse all at the same time by such an early age. The girl is wondrous!!

What I really love is they were pressuring her to do a reprise of I Don't Know My Name for her final performance. They said, well if you don't follow our advice you're going to lose. So, this little 12 year old said, nope, going to sing Clay. So many facets to this little genius aside from her voice and songwriting ability. Charisma? Character? Something extra. She turns grown men into fanboys.

James Smithe stood her ground. So awesome. And another great part to the story is 2 of the songs. “Light the Sky” & “Clay” were written while waiting for the next episodes. Her whole story is soooo not told enough. And it will be, cause it’s unmatched. In an era of AGT and American Idol and the Voice, in the U.S. and other countries, too me she has single handedly destroyed competing with a cover song. Unless its really really unique, it just doesn’t work like it used to. And that’s too bad because usually that is all a person has. ‘You sounded just like Whitney Houston when you sang that’ does not do what it used to. It might get you past a round or two, but it gets boring. Even if it’s great singing. Which is why, i think you see far more originals being done then we used to. I’ve clamored about this before, but it’s not acknowledged enough that it’s the influence of Grace VanderWaal. Sal and Crumb of Grace’s season could have won on that season if Grace wasn’t in it. Or any season before, if Grace wasn’t in it. But I’m not so sure about following seasons. Since Grace, great covers just don’t have the same impact they used to. Too dime a dozen. I’ve seen fantastic singers of cover songs die out far sooner in the season then they used to. The Grace Vanderwaal effect. She’s affected modern culture and no one even realizes it yet.

I remember when she posted this song on her personal YT channel before she won AGT. Now its used in commercials for Windex and Sony. She's continues to write many songs and is currently on tour. She is also the lead character for "Stargirl" a Disney movie coming out in 2019, and perform many new songs for the movie. She's definitely the next big thing.

I can’t believe she won almost 2 years ago this year I wish she can stay this way forever like staying young and innocent and people always hope that it doesn’t all get to her head and her ending up like most celebrities out there To me personally as much as kids like herself have a lot of talent however talented they may be, Hollywood and fame just isn’t for kids. Kids should go to school and just be a normal kid It’s not like it used to be back in the 1940s like my grandmas generation where kids actually HAD to work cause their parents back then were barley even able to afford things for themselves let alone their children. Like my dad was basically having to work at 12 13 years old and my so did both my grandparents on both my moms and dads side but today thinks have changed where kids don’t have to work anymore cause any kind of work is not meant for children, only school and to just be a normal kid. Work & having any sort of job should only be meant for adults especially working in Hollywood cause when children are in Hollywood to early, their brains don’t always know how to handle it & the huge constant pressure and eventually once you get destroyed by Hollywood, Hollywood no longer wants anything to do with you even if it is their fault for destroying you cause Hollywood will never be responsible and own up to it and admit to anyone that they actually destroyed you. When you enter Hollywood & fame as an adult, things are usually a little different cause when you look at it, most of the Hollywood actors & singers that are depressed now or doing heavy illegal drugs, 95% of them were child stars just like Grace is now & it’s really so sad to see. I have this magazine of people getting destroyed by fame and pretty much all of them in the magazine were child stars & at some point they all entered Hollywood exactly like Grace did at 12 years old or sometimes even earlier and they were also as cute and innocent as she is. If Hollywood is reading this, please don’t destroy a beautiful thing like Grace cause every time you get a good thing, you take advantage of it and you destroy it bit by bit each and everyday

Yes. it's almost never brought up except when Simon said, "I know every idea is yours..." This is a girl with a mind of her own. Resisted extreme pressure to sing I Don't Know My Name for the finale. She knew if she did and lost she'd regret it forever. Instead sang the jaw dropping Clay and ran away from the competition. She is an odd combination of genius and down to earth, charming, funny, charismatic, unassuming, beautiful person.
