In this video we help our mother check a major item off her bucket list by taking her to Graceland for the first time to celebrate her birthday. We also got to tour the Jet Star and the Lisa Marie (Elvis's private planes).

I enjoyed the years in my teens when we went by Graceland and he would be riding his horse in the front yard near the gate. Sonny, Red, and Priscilla would ride with him. He opened the gate at times for fans to come in. I got his autograph and Priscilla's signed together. Didn't see anyone else get her to sign, but I did. Still have it. I lived close to Graceland and still do, so I went to his concerts here.

Many people who were close to Elvis have agreed that Priscilla has kept things true to who Elvis was. She did all if this to secure his home For not only Lisa, but for his fans as well...which is certainly something elvis would have wanted.
@xs10z4 жыл бұрын
@@blackvelvet1350 I agree! Elvis would have wanted people to be treated like cattle when they visit his home! It's what he would have wanted! Seriously, though, If you're not going to do it right, just don't do it. Disgrace-land is what it's become. "Treat me like a sheep to be shorn"-land it should be called. Cha-Ching! land maybe.
@xs10z4 жыл бұрын
@Electronic Adventures Elvis Presly Enterprises is worth about $400 million. There is no need to treat guests at Graceland like cattle any more. I was staying at the Guest House hotel, and had to stand in the rain for about a half hour, not allowed to walk down the driveway to my hotel a couple hundred yards away, but instead had to wait for the shuttle, to cross the street, to get off the shuttle, to cross the street again to walk to the hotel. It was undignified and unnecessary and I have to suspect it's all a play to get people to pay for the VIP package.

Great pics, had to be labor intensive. I was there in the early 90's before the tours but you couldn't go inside Graceland but you could tour his grave site. I found it strange that when we were looking for his house, the neighborhood didn't look all that appealing and then out of nowhere, there was Graceland. Had noticed at that time that tourists had taken chunks of metal out of his fence and pieces of brick missing and the brick wall all the way down had been spray painted with peoples (tourists) names. Why in the hell would they defile this beautiful place is beyond me to understand. Thanks for the trip!!!

Ray Ramirez yeah, as someone who lives in Memphis I'm sad to say it has really gone down hill. Idk why they would mess up Graceland like that.

You have to keep in mind that in 1957 the area was surrounded by 500 acres of farmland. Elvis intentionally purchased a property outside of town because fans were waiting outside his house on Audubon Drive disturbing neighbors, as you can imagine. Hence, the need for a large piece of land with a buffer from fans and avoid potentially disturbing neighbors. Over the years, as urban sprawl does, the greater Memphis area spread its way to the farmlands. Unfortunately, just like metro areas all across the U.S. 😔

January 17, 2018: My son Troy and I visited Graceland in early September after driving to the East Coast from Albuquerque. (I completed my last graduate program at the end of August, but still haven't found a good job.) The home itself and the property were very luxurious....the memorabilia was vast and impressive. The family was quite generous to share an array of cars, clothing and personal belongings, but I found the atmosphere quite sad. A great place to visit, but Elvis' spirit is with God now. {Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess. 5:18 Blessings, Kate

When I was there in the mid 1980s there was a hallway on the northeast side where all of Elvis' gold records were framed and hanging on the wall. Do you know what happened to these? It looks to me that they have added structures to the property in the rear for the exhibits. When I was there, we were not allowed to see the upstairs because Vernon Presley still maintained a residence there. (they said). The aircraft currently to the north of Graceland and on the West side of the Street were not there at the time. I am from Memphis and used to drive almost daily past the residence. I lived off of Winchester road about two miles northeast of Graceland. I've been living in South Florida for the last 27 years.
@BrothersoFIron7 жыл бұрын
Swinde Not really sure where the gold records were. I know they were still under construction in some areas so that might be why allot of the things weren't on display. We hope to go back at some point when they are finished with it.
@erinflowers83945 жыл бұрын
The gold records have been displayed in the Trophy room for many years now. Its a structure out back, off from the music room. They also had stuff displayed in the racquetball court. The upstairs have never been open to the public and never will be. Elvis's Aunt Delta lived there at Graceland until she passed away in 1993.

Excellent tour. Believe it or not, they have changed several things since the 1980's when I went. The cars were actually still on the main grounds under an awning. They are not kept in a climate controlled room. The main house was naturally the same, but you can see a lot of changes to the grounds and even the surrounding properties. True story - I live in Texarkana and know a lady who was around when Elvis would perform in Texarkana, Arkansas. She said that one night after a performance they were walking down Broad Street with Elvis and a Cadillac went by. Elvis said to the group, "I'm going to have me one of those someday and it's going to be pink." My friend said she responded, "No you ain't"...while she was telling the story after saying "No you ain't" she looked up and smiled and said to me, "...I'll be damned if he didn't get one!" Also, Elvis was not buried originally on the grounds. He was buried near his mother in Forest Hill Cemetary. He and his family were moved after someone attempted to steal his body from the grave. A lot of cool history.

The room you referred to about the curtains, that is 700 yards of tapestry . Very expensive.

Your photos are great. You took a lot. It's a pretty good representation of all, even tho you didn't get photos of absolutely everything. That isn't possible I know. I went to Graceland twice in years 1997 & 98. It was so unbelievable to me the first time, I had to go back the next year to see if I missed anything! It cost only $17 for admission (I thought it was expensive at the time) but that included everything. There was no extra fee to see the gravesite. I don't understand why there would be an additional charge for that. The price also included the car museum, which was awesome. I stayed at a hotel named "Wilson World" which was located across the street from the "mansion" right next to where the airplanes were. I don't remember the price of a room but it was very reasonable. It was later bought out and renovated and named "Heartbreak Hotel." Now that's gone too in lieu of the new hotel on the same side of the street as the "mansion" I understand. Attention People!-- if you were not a fan before you went, once you visit there, you come out a fan big time! What I find hard to believe is that you say you live in Memphis and you never went. If I lived there, I would have gone as soon as they opened it to the public (but maybe you weren't born yet). You didn't seem to know much about the history of Elvis. I think your Mom should have known a lot and maybe told you some stuff (she looks to be my age) but guess she didn't. I want to go back again but hate thinking about how much it cost. You say you spent about $85. That's a lot for me. I don't live in Memphis, so it would include an air fare and hotel stay. Of course, I'd probably stay at a Days Inn if there's still one there down the street as in years gone by. When I went in '97&'98 I lived in Atlanta so it was an easy & cheap flight (just one hour long). Now I live in NYC so there's a lot more involved - longer flight & costly. Oh, for the good old days. Thanks for your photos & video. Glad your mama finally got there. I'm sure she'll be thinking about that visit for a long, long time. P.S. Why are you called Brothers of Iron?

Man things have changed since I was there. I was stationed in Blytheville Ark when he died. My parents came to visit & we all went to Graceland in 78 I believe. We had to walk up the driveway. There was nothing across the street & we didn't get to see a lot of what's here. We saw the raquetball building like it was when he died & al, his clothes were along a long hallway between the house & where we came out close to the raquetball court.

It's sad how Priscilla says she does this for Elvis .in all honesty she uses the kings home for her own greed .Elvis would never charge his fans to walk around

They have to make money for the upkeep of the house and the land . Are you an idiot or what? You knew Elvis right?
@rosiegirl24854 жыл бұрын
I believe when Elvis died that there wasn't a lot of money left. Priscilla became the executour following the death of Elvis's dad, 2 years after Elvis. She did what she did to save Graceland..and so that there was an inheritance for their daughter..Lisa Marie! I personally think she did a good thing for everyone...and kept Elvis's memory alive!

Here's how you get introduced to Graceland in 2020: Be treated like cattle. Walk through cattle chutes for 45 minutes while waiting for the privilige of being driven across the street. Be herded as if you were sheep. Be treated as if you were a commodity... as if you were to be shorn. Follow the instructions of sullen eigtteen year olds or get chewed out. Be handed an umbrella at the end because it's raining and your cattle car is not ready (I mean, "shuttle") and stand there for a half hour watching people cut in line in front of you on your way back. Charming. Thanks, Priscilla! Don't spend the $48.50 that I paid to be herded as if I were steer, in one place!

It was an ice cream bar. Also Pepsi was stocked there. Elvis drank Mountain Valley spring water. The water comes in glass dark green bottles, that’s why alit of people thought he was drinking beer.
