Thank you for the video. I went to Chinese school 50 years ago and now I’m learning to communicate with my old friends in Chinese via iPhone. Your video gave me the idea how to text in Chinese, though for me it’s faster if I just talk to the phone. But sometimes the character does not come out right, so I still have to choose the right character. During pandemic, I recopied 6500 words in Chinese dictionary and it really brought back a lot of memories.❤

A method that I personally use is called double pinyin or shuangpin (双拼). It basically makes it so that every key has a double purpose as an inital and final sound. There are a few different layouts, but in the one I use (shuangpin++) for example the "i" key acts as "sh" in the initial position, but as "i" in the final position, or the "t" key acts as "t" as an inital, but as "eng" as a final. Since every character is written with only two keystrokes, there's never any confusion. This means a sentence like "你们明天有时间吗?" (nimen mingtian you shijian ma) is written like "nimrmqtjypijma". This admittedly looks really confusing at first and it does indeed take some getting used to, but I got the hang of it much, much faster than I anticipated. I've even been asked multiple times by Chinese people on apps like Hellotalk how I can type so fast. It's worth trying at least.
@jamieg24273 жыл бұрын
that's awesome advice. i'll look into that. i was considering learning to use wubi, but shuangpin looks much easier.

Wow, thanks for sharing all this info, and that’s such a cool tip to just use the initials! I never knew phones had shortcuts like that. This video made me look into some more phone tricks. I only now learned about the period shortcut (double-tapping the space bar to put a period and space at the end of a sentence.) This shortcut just needs to be enabled in the the phone’s keyboard settings. Another trick is to hold down the space bar until it “clicks” and it enables you to precisely drag the cursor around the screen. This doesn’t relate to typing speed, but it helps when trying to select in between two characters/letters within a typed word. Example: selecting between the “i” and “s” in “is”, or between the 電 and 影 in 電影. I think these should work for most language keyboards. I’m just not sure if they would work with all operating systems.

In the double-spelling input method, the sound and vowel of Chinese character pinyin are each represented by an English letter, that is, typing a Chinese character, just press the keyboard 2 times. The mainstream double spell solutions include Xiaohe double spell, Microsoft Pinyin 2003, Intelligent ABC, Pinyin plus, Purple Light double spell, Natural Code and so on. The main difference between these schemes lies in the key arrangement of vowels and auxiliary codes.

One more tip I found out for pinyin the computer (probably works for zhuyin as well) is that when typing two character combinations, if you hit left arrow twice so the cursor is before the first character, and then hit down arrow, you get choices for both characters at the same time. For example, if you type "shijian", using this method, you can then choose between 時間 and 事件, without having to scroll through the many, many characters for shi. Both 時間 and 事件 will appear near the top of the list. Maybe I didn't explain it well, but just try typing a two character combination and hit left arrow twice before hitting down arrow, and you'll see what I mean.

@3ie9353 жыл бұрын
Actually, Windows already has different keyboard languages. Here are the steps to getting the Chinese Pinyin keyboard: 1: go to Settings 2: select Time an Language 3: click Language 4: when you scroll down there should be a plus symbol with "add language" next to it. click add language 5: in the searchbar type chinese 6: click on Chinese (Simplified, China) 7: click next 8: click on download and wait for it to finish Now you have the Chinese keyboard! Whenever you want to type in chinese keep the windows icon on you laptop pressed and press once on the spacebar. A little window should appear on the right side of you screen which shows your languages. To quickly switch between English and Chinese press shift once. ( please note that you are typing the simplified characters. If you want to use traditional characters just reply and I'll help you!) Hope this helps!
