Anyone that questions this move should go to Torrance and talk to Rener and Ryron about it. I'm sure they'll demonstrate the technique for you.

Best part is,if their arm escapes,switching to the other arm is extremely effective and quick,as well as the variation to get them into a triangle if their arm escapes as well.

Although you learn them as a unit, no technique is self contained, they need to be spiced up a little and disguised. Grappling is like chess, making combinations to fool your opponent. This video demonstrates good technique, now instead of saying it won't work because this or because that, get your ass on the mat and practice to merge the 4 or 5 body movements required into a single reflexive motion.

This technique is meant to be done quickly. The only time you grab the leg is to get the angle and lock the legs, so it only takes a split second. After that you can go back to extending the hips but at the same time, if you have to, worry about his other hand throwing punches and block those with your free hand. More than likely extending this hips should put enough pressure on his elbow to have him worry about that rather than throwing punches.

this move actually does work when this is not the first move u make when the opponent is in ur guard. bring ur opponent in close first so he doesnt pound that crap out of ur face. then perform the move it works a lot better in a surprise moment then trying to perform the armlock straight out.

Sliding in your arm isn't a problem at all. In any case there are other variations. You can spin yourself by placing a foot on their hip.
@1N234517 жыл бұрын
no but if you ask the question, I doubt you would keep concentration. you have to work on that..accepting punches. Sadly, few schools of jiu jutsu I saw work on that.

my very jiu jitsu lesson was in hartford,ct with ryron gracie and let me tell you this kid knows he's shit. i love the sport so much that i ended up joining the academy and i can't wait for he's next visit. great teacher.

That´s nice, but as he pointed out himself, it has the drawback of the possibility of escape for the opponent. I think it´s better to aid the hip movement by placing your sameside foot on his hip, so you can also place weight on his back with the other leg while having both hands free to hold on to his wrist

well what im saying is that you can just throw one leg over the arm you want to trap, and turn to the side for the armbar... but if you mess up they can pass and possibly take back control... its not safe, but i think it would probably be easier than the method showed on this video
@chriswnorris716 жыл бұрын
for this technique - couldnt you just trap ONE arm between your legs and pull your body to the side and backwards to get the armbar? it seems like it would be somewhat difficult to get the armbar off if you are still on the bottom trying to lift your hips straight up

I think is very good ! But can he punch me? But I think is worth to take punch and exchange for arm break.... but if he is very very big and strong do you think that punch will knock me out?

I love this guy, he's a tad annoying and bossy with his brother and seems unnaturally chipper, but he's really cool, and knowledgeable. Seems like a nice guy to train under.

For all the people talking down on this move. It's a very basic and preliminary armbar designed to be used against your regular street thug or moron who doesn't know jiu-jitsu. It's not made for a knowledgeable mma fighter or someone with some jiu-jitsu sense. I love how some tool was mentioning this move in correlation with a mma fight. Again, you can ask Ryron or Rener yourself and they will explain the move to you personally.

@Badsinger96826 I don't believe you have ever practiced the technique. If you have, then you would know that a certain principle comes into play. The person in the top position has a choice, punch or grapple, but he can't do both at the same time. If he chooses to punch he can't defend the armbar without giving up base or ignoring the attack.

they say that the purpose of jiu jitsu is to defend in a street fight. it is way more than that ,can be use for fun, stressrelief or just a exercisesto name a few. seens like he is teaching jiu jitsu to fight bums on the streets. not to fight other jiu jitsu fighter
@jjfighteromaha15 жыл бұрын
You execute the movement, if you are punched chances are it won't finish you. You should expect to get punched at some point during a streetfight...that's what happens in a fight.

if you're going to trap one arm you might as well go for a triangle.. doing it the way you said makes it more likely for you to get passed

if the teacher teaches the student how to perform armbars against other jiu jitsu players or well someone to know how to avoid defend a person that can keep the posture on the guard not giving the arms like white belts. would more easy to catch punks in a self defense matters

you never just throw the leg over. if you arent pivoted to the side of the person dont force the leg get to the side and get the head out of the way jui jitsu is about proper technique dont just do a armbar or and submission without proper technique
