I was one of the people who subscribed to GradeA in the beginning (it's funny to hear Vaush, a year older than me, say it's not his generation), forgot he existed, then when I eventually remembered him and rewatched his content went, "Wow, this really was not that funny to begin with, this is what I liked *before* I smoked weed?"

Same here. I was like 19-20 when I watched him and enjoyed his content. I can't fathom what I found appealing cause it's just pure cringe. I still think that other creators I used to watch back then like Filthy Frank were hilarious even to my current self but this guy is just embarrassing.

@@KrowwJaeger I wasn't watching filthy Frank but get this, I *was* a Sargon subscriber. I actually remember Vaush debating him cuz I watched it from Sargon's side. Yeah, the notion that "Gypsy" is a racial slur has never fully taken root in American speech. And in a lot of ways it's also been completely decoupled from Romani people, as more of a description of a particular aesthetic or lifestyle. Hell, we have people who've named their pets, even their KIDS, Gypsy. They obviously wouldn't have done that if they knew it was racist or reductive. I'm not saying it's okay to use it, or defending people who insist on using it, just pointing out that our ignorance of it is not necessarily malicious.

@trianglemoebius 19 сағат бұрын
@@vi.vi.vi.vi.vi.d That's the thing, though, people in America don't associate Romani and Gypsy. The stereotype of the gypsy is entirely divorced from the ethnicity of Romani. When Peaky Blinders came out, a lot of Americans were introduced to the Traveller Peoples, who (due to the time period the show is set) are called Gypsies in it. I - being an immigrant from the UK - will sometimes end up having to inform people this is a slur, and they're confused. Because in their mind, "Gypsy" doesn't refer to Romani people, so the context is lost, it's more like a job description, or maybe a "term for people who live in caravans". So, there's no ethnic usage of the word. As far as Americans are concerned, if the whitest dude imaginable took up living in a caravan and travelling, he'd be a gypsy.

I used to watch GradeA wayyy back before he dropped off the internet for a few years. By the time he came back with a hilariously dated chud video I’d lost interest. It’s wild to see how weird he got.

I had heard that Sseth was Jewish himself, and most of his jokes seem to be at the expense of himself nowadays. Not sure how that factors in but I didn't see it mentioned, it's always felt like a "Haha I'm a Jew making fun of myself" humor, but I could be off base.

Yeah, I think Sseth leans hard into the bit of being Jewish and doing the Jewish jokes ironically, but his FANBASE attracts chuds because - and this is true - right-wingers literally aren't smart enough for irony.

I think that's what it is too, took me a while to figure out if he was being serious (AKA a nazi) or joking and making fun of himself because he talks so flat for the most part. I can see him being kind of right wing, but from what he talks about his life outside KZbin and what people have said who have actually interacted with him IRL or in DM's he seems like a pretty upstanding guy. Stories about him trying to help people online who have chronic illnesses, and he was a Cancer researcher for a long time and has done lectures on it. He left the position partially because of his disgust at what unchecked capitalism has done to healthcare

Correct me guys if I'm wrong, but does the stereotype of Jewish people being in the funeral industry even exist? Cause I have never, ever heard of that. Like, I have never heard of it being associated with any specific ethnic group period, cause funeral rites are usually strongly linked to the dominant religion of the area.

I know this is gonna be a spicy take, but language and joke policing really have done the left zero favors in the past ten years, and in fact has the opposite effect. The second you tell someone "Oh you can't say X because it's problematic" people are going to say "Fuck you, Im gonna say X twice as hard now" out of spite. That's how human nature works. I'm sorry, but doing the whole "Shane Dawson, Idubbz, MaxMoeFoe and Filthy Frank radicalized people to into the alt-right because they said no-no words" is one of the things that lead to Trump being popular among median voters in 2016. Notice how Kamala seems to be mostly shying away from the Hillary Clinton post-Gamergate PC outrage and focusing more on the REAL issues at hand, such as Trump being an existential threat to America, she seems to be doing pretty good. Just over the summer we were dreaming up nightmare scenarios where New Jersey and New York go red and now we're having discussions about how Blorida and Blexas could happen.... Just sayin.

I think it’s likely that he didn’t know this was supposed to be a Jew, because the alternative is that he knew he was posting a blatantly antisemitic thumbnail but didn’t think anyone would have a problem with it, which seems even more stupid. The fact that he took it down the second it was called antisemitic at least shows that he didn’t think people would say it that way.
