I don’t often watch kinda funny content anymore, but came to see their thoughts on this state of play specifically. People outside of the overwatch community don’t realize that the entire fanbase of overwatch is always one step away from never playing that game again, so concord and marvel rivals are positioned very uniquely to scratch that itch for a whole community that has been unhappy with how overwatch has been handled. So it should be interesting to see what happens once those games are out alongside overwatch

Astro Bot, Where Winds Meet, and Dynasty Warriors Origins for me. Other than that it's whatever. My thing is, wasn't this state of play supposed to be showing what's coming in the fall? I wasn't expecting anything big to begin with, and I don't really expect a lot of BIG hitters at SGF if I'm being honest. I am assuming that SGF will be showing a lot of what's coming for the rest of the year. If not, wow. Don't get me wrong I'm eating good, being a fighting game fan and jrpg fan, and then I have a backlog from the last 2 years I have to get to as well. BUT for those that's just mainstream or big hitters only, OUCH!! 5/10 state of play.

Concord doesn't need to be a Fortnite beater but as long as it finds it's audience it'll be fine. The amount of crack addicts feening to play Marvel Rivals over the 10 day period of the Closed Alpha Test tells me it's already doing better than Battleborne and Lawbreakers. It has the Marvel License which is already a big bump. Saw lots of people from Marvel Snap playing, and also it's not held back by the MCU and is taking from the comics.

Battleborn was good and on the way to being great. bad marketing, bad timing, Randy being Randy ruined that one, and LawBreakers was fun as well, but again, bad timing, bad marketing, and weird business strategy with its release. the games themselves were good, it was everything around them that ultimately killed them. Concord has more of a struggle unless they pull an Apex or Finals, but i think Marvel-Overwatch will have a better shot, because it's Marvel, and it may actually be better than current Overwatch... time will tell.

The only things that excited me were Marvel Rivals Venom and Adam Warlock, Ragnarok on PC, and Dynasty Warriors. Astrobot and Monster Hunter are good but they don't pique my Interest. Look this was just fine for a State of Play in isolation. But the fact that Sony hasn’t shown us anything major first party in years now and doesn’t communicate either is indicative that something went very wrong under Jim Ryan. I think he was definitely fired after seeing another State of play that is frankly barren. Its kind of stunning to me that Xbox is the party that is struggling so hard while Sony has basically has failed to deliver completely with this generation in its later half. -Nothing from Naughty dog still - Nothing from any project connected to Horizon Zero Dawn. - Still nothing from Cory Barlog project at Santa Monica - Still nothing from Blue Point ( i mean wtf not even a short teaser trailer) - Nothing from Bend - No Spiderman 2 DLC -No Ghost 2 - Nothing from Housemarque, which is perhaps the most understandable out of all of these but you would think they could have build upon what they got for a second Returnal game. Jim Ryan really seemed to have mismanaged all these studios, and while Helldivers is amazing his whole “ as a service revolution” seemed to have screwed up everything operationally.

I actually think this is result of stupid console wars. And it’s disheartening to see the amount of hate for Concord after Helldivers 2 blowing up. I couldn’t care less about Helldivers 2, and that’s the biggest game of the year, but I am genuinely intrigued by Concord and Marvel Rivals, and Astro Bot is the most hyped I’ve been for a PlayStation game since Wolverine’s and Spider-Man’s announcements. I guess that not knowing the leaks and not following Kinda Funny as I used to is a blessing in disguise, I feel like people just know too much about these announcements far ahead of them happening. I can’t believe people aren’t completely going insane with Astro Bot, because I know I am.

It seems like a hybrid between both. Character driven skill and weapon selections of Overwatch mixed with faster paced arena gameplay of Destiny/Halo. A game with the feel of Destiny and the more rigid balance of a typical competitive shooter is quite compelling.

@@R0ndras Destiny PvP has always suffered from the RPG and gear systems interfering with its balance. The core gameplay is not the issue and is widely considered the greatest strength of the mode. Concord taking a core gameplay framework similar to Destiny and applying it to a rigid balance environment by default solves the #1 problem with Destiny PvP.

Couldn’t agree more with Greg about PSVR2. It’s one of the more technically impressive pieces of hardware the company has put out, but PlayStation themselves let the unit die before it was even released. We discussed this at launch, people. Outside of a VR mode in a niche racing game and a really short spinoff, PlayStation has clearly just given up on the thing. Not even a WHIFF of a future title from PS Studios. It’s saddening to see just a good unit wasted by the company that made it. One of the biggest fumbles in gaming history.

multiplayer games aren't really my thing anymore, but i do love the retro-futurist visual language, character designs and art direction of *Concord,* so if they put out an art book i'll grab one. i'd like to know more about *Antara,* and i'm always down for some mindless *Dynasty Warriors* Musou nonsense. i want *Silent Hill* to be good. we''ll see. *Monster Huner Wilds* might finally be *my* Monster Hunter. *Alien* in VR? could be amazing if they get it right. and seeing numerous "Asian Male Leads"™ in this showcase shows once again how disconnected from reality & immersed in bigotry last week's "Yasuke" instalment of the insidious "culture wars" is. some folks only see what they're conditioned to see. sad. overall, *7/10* showcase for me.

The one thing that excites me about Concord is the idea of putting story progression between the multiplayer matches. I think it should remain totally skippable, but I’ve been kind of wondering when multiplayer games would instill more context, story, and stakes between each match or set of matches of gameplay. Imagine an optional story and Mass Effect-style relationship builder between the crew with varying approaches to the storytelling. Might seem like a bit much, but when executed well, we’ve seen other experimental mashups take off. Turn-based combat and relationship collectathon in Midnight Suns, Hades’ mansion versus the combat gameplay, Persona 5’s JRPG combat mixed with deep social sim gameplay. The list goes on of similar successes. Even with Baldur’s Gate 3, Stardew Valley, and Yakuza Like a Dragon, the mashup doesn’t really matter. People just tend to enjoy having a reason to invest in their personal relationship with the characters.

Honestly, I think they are speaking the truth. From what we see, Astro Bot clears Mario Wonder in terms of visuals, character design, level design, worldbuilding and boss fights. Only thing I see Mario Wonder beating Astro Bot in is mechanics and that’s only because they had an insane amount of mechanics due to Wonder Effects. I enjoyed Mario Wonder, and is probably the best 2D Mario game they’ve made, but nowhere near the best 2D platformer.

I own an X and Ps5. I dont really see how this showcase makes anyone want to get a ps5, apart from astro bot but that kinda looks like a ratchet clank or mario clone, 5/10 for astro

I truly do not understand what was good about it.. 😅 Concorde seems bad hitbox and no hit feedback… but Ehy, every week new cinematics… Silent hill 2.. is a real joke the state of it… Psvr 20 fps showcase… The rest coming probably on pc as well which is great news… happy for ragnarok even if i didn’t enjoyed the 2018 and until dawn (in steam wishlist already since and no surprise) I think was such a waste of time this show case and if I was a Sony fan I would be so disappointed.. in the other hand I think they will have a good direction with porting on pc finally.. Astro the real “Sony” star… monster hunter and PoE huge games but nothing from Sony..

Just a boring show concord looks like a letdown ,all the souls type games are a pass , blessing saying its good to see god of war 2 for pc.........in what way does that belong in a state of play there supposed to be hyping the reason to own a ps5 not pc the saving grace is astro bot and alien vr, MH WILDS looks great just not that hyped. In all id give it a 5 and concord looks like uninspired trash

It's ya boy. I'm a vrchat player and quests are not good enough for me. I had a quest 2, and went backwards to the rift s. it's got trash black and white cameras, and is not supported anymore. Yet in vrchat it's still more powerfull allowing me to have full body tracking and highly detailed custom avatars/worlds that i make/edit myself in unity. If your only in vr a couple hours a day, then yes a quest 3 is for you. But as someone with almost 1000 hours in vrchat, its an underpowered slog. When looking at wired pc vr headsets you'll find nothing but $1000+ headsets. So yes, You might think psvr2 is expensive, but the conversion box thing they are making can be $100 and it would still be at least $300 cheaper. So i say again. If you are a serious pc vr user, this should be on your raider. It's this newer oled, wide fov, eye tracking headset, a 5 year old index, or all these under powered wireless headsets. I love you all, but PSVR2 is a good deal for us pc players that have moved past the quest.

There's something about the characters faces that look kinda indie? to me. It looked kinda cool but not as high budget as I would of hoped.
