Aw Diana. You did so well! I love your enthusiasm and faith in yourself! It's so easy to get discouraged after a while of learning but I can see how much you enjoy it. That's so inspiring! Gotta practice my double consonants now. Thanks, Billy!

The tip for pronouncing double consonants is so helpful! Pronouncing 아 before a double consonant works wonders 😱 Great job Diana, keep going! 😁😁😁 as someone who loves to self study korean too, I relate!!

I like the explanation of pausing before a double consonant! I never heard of that and it totally helps! Another thing about double/ tense consonants I've noticed is that they kind of sound like the sounds beatboxers make, by holding their breath in their chest (?) and just making the p/t/k sounds only with their mouths. So tense consonants seem to require barely any air being expelled, plain consonants have a little more air expelled, and then aspirated/strong consonants have a lot of air being expelled. There have been studies showing that the pitch of both tense and aspirated consonants are higher than plain, but I don't know enough about that to explain. lol I just finished writing my uni thesis on teaching Korean consonant pronunciation so this is where all this comes from. Great video as always! I really enjoy this series 👍

Can u use 기억할 수 없어요? (Use ㄹ/을 수 있/없어)? Or is there a difference between the the types of can't/can?
@Jamie-ht1hd
@Jamie-ht1hd 3 жыл бұрын
I’m still learning so please take what I say with a grain of salt, but I believe 기억할 수 없다 is more like “I don’t have the ability to remember” whereas 기억 못 하다 or 기억이 안 나다 sound more like “I can’t remember.” If I remember correctly, “기억할 수 없다” is still correct, but it’s more common to use 못 in these types of situations, if I’m not mistaken. Here’s an answer that I’ve referred to a lot to help me when I get confused with these sentence endings (because even after practicing for some time I still get them mixed up) korean.stackexchange.com/questions/181/what-is-the-difference-between-지-않다-지-못하다-and-ㄹ-을-수-없다

안녕하세요 선생님 , I am just confused in some pronunciations....like why Is ㄱ in 감사합니다 , is pronounced as 캄사합나다???? and similarly for all the other plain consonants...I couldn't find an appropriate /specific video or answer to this? could you please help me out? can you make a video on this?
@Zommi
@Zommi 3 жыл бұрын
The thing is... it's not really pronounced as 캄사합나다, is just that as a beginner, assuming both of us are beginners, the sound of base/strong consonants can be very very similar -not considering sound changing rules-, is just a matter of really getting used to the difference through exposure. Here's a video from Billy explaining it kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3qapn-lfrtsgKs

I started learning Korean at the start of this year and I'm happy since my Korean pronunciation is better than her. (It's all thanks to teachers like you who taught me Korean. I'm really grateful to have teachers like you.) I think I should start learning Korean with some variety shows but how can I manage my time? I have a lot to think about... BTW, is there a way that I can send you an audio clip of me speaking Korean? Is it possible?

'K but like, I've had Koreans use 당신 when speaking to me on messaging apps; didn't want to ask them directly because I didn't want to sound like I was trying to correct a native, haha, but it obviously is sometimes used like, neutrally or what have you. Is it just easier to tell learners never to use it so they don't get it wrong?
@GoBillyKorean
@GoBillyKorean 3 жыл бұрын
It could be used for several reasons. One could be they're just not sure what they should call you (common, as this is a whole large topic in itself). Another could be they're trying to speak Korean more simply, and are literally trying to translate "you" into Korean so it's easier to understand. Perhaps they might worry if they speak completely normally that the Korean learner won't understand, so they use simpler words (although incorrect) such as 당신 for "you," or 그/그녀 for "he/she."
