I remember my graduation from high school back in 2012. Those few days in February were maybe the best days of my life, for sure. And I loved the formal pram a year before graduation! First, I was of course scared of the dancing, but it turned out to be so much fun. Thanks for the video, it really brought up some memories.

I had a friend who 'graduated' from a school in Nykarleby...he said they made posters with 'wise sayings' to put on the walls...I liked that very much. I like the white caps because you can take them with you. thanks from Illinois USA

Ty, very well done. The graduation process goes like you told. I remember the reading period for the final exams having been shorter, like 1 month, but it's been over 20 yrs... so... :) The hat has a small lyre as a symbol of learning. The hat resembles a boating captain's hat, and some not so studied people wear those kinda party hats at the season of these graduations. So as to be mixed with these 'learned folks' :) The hat has even more similarity in design with the military cadets' hat, but that has more decoration.

Before, the white hat signified that you could attend a university. These days there are other ways to enter one, but basically it signifies that one has the basic skills and learning to study further. Either one goes to a vocational school for 3 years after primary education (9 years of school at minimum) or goes to get their 'white hat' and after that goes to a university or an upper vocational school (3-5 years after getting their hat or graduating from other tertiary education). Traditionally, that hat is worn from May 1 to autumn - eg. when it is too cold for it - but few wear it after their graduation apart May 1 (Labour Day). Check wikipedia for further information, articles such as 'matriculation examination' will get you started. Great video, thank you and greetings from Finland ^^

It's called "the white cap" that Abiturs place their heads on that graduation day. :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abitur#Abitur_in_Finland This white cap is pretty similar with the Swedish white cap. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_cap#Finland

Well I did mine in a different school but still... The senior's last day (and throwing away candy) is kind of one more time and good bye childhood. They are about 18 after all. There's also the aspect of feedback/gifts to teachers. Because... they don't grade us anymore. The grand exams are graded by a special nation-wide committee.

a friend told me they put wise sayings on the wall for benefit of the youngsters - I like the idea of the white caps which can be kept...time to get rid of robes and mortar board caps
