Vidal, Marchisio were players who will run for days without a sweat, Pirlo orchestrated whole midfield, he was playing with crazy talented world class players around him. What they expect from him playing with Fellaini and A.Herrera ? You didn't know who was slower among those three. And the defensive players that they had back then that trio of Chiellini, Bonucci and Barzagli🤣Man. I don't think Ronaldo expected to play every minute of every game. But bringing him on in the 88th minute was an insult. I agree with Souness that it was a lost opportunity to have a great senior pro around - instead ten Hag basically forced him out while trying to show who was boss.
@thedorianjones

It was never going to work, there is no way the crumbling club was going to have Ronaldo sitting on what 25 mil a year & sitting on the bench "some games".. Ronaldo wasn't going to sit on the bench either (and he's Ronaldo, he wants and should be paying every game)
@anthonymclennan3208
@anthonymclennan3208 3 ай бұрын
@@thedorianjones I still think ten Hag could have managed it better. For example - take Ronaldo off after 65 minutes if he starts. Or bring him on for the last 35 minutes from the bench. He could have sat out the occasional cup tie against lower league opposition and he could have still have played 90 minutes in other matches - mix it up and give him enough game-time to keep him happy - manage the situation. Instead, leaving him to sit on the bench - and then asking him to come on for the last 3 or 4 minutes felt like the manager pushing the player out.

That mentality Souness is talking about regarding Pogba is the whole French squad’s problem. If they weren’t so lackadaisical they would of won 2 World Cups back to back with the 3rd one in the post lol. They are not hungry to be ELITE. They don’t have the drive because they feel they’re better than everyone else already and it cost them in Qatar. They weren’t even focused and managed to reach the final. Imagine being the supporter of another club and having to talk about United all the time even though we haven't won an argument in about ten years. It makes me smile 😂 Whats that Oscar Wilde quote "There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about and that is not being talked about". 😉

Did they never see the French media (which it was obvious that Pogba was listening to) There are two different Pogba's, one of the best footballers in the World when representing France and average Pogba when representing United. Whenever Pogba performed poorly the French media blamed United, therefore Pogba did not see his poor performances at United as being a Pogba problem. Initially even when Juve resigned Pogba they saw his previous club form as being a Manchester United problem and assumed they under Juve that he would return to his best.

Souness is spot on... he was a great player.... Pogba tells himself he is a great player... however Pogba cannot do the basics well .. Run .... find space ... tackle.... all the things required when your teams not playing well and need to stay in the game... lucky for him he had the outstanding Kante to do this for him in the French National team... Pogba loses the ball cheaply in the wrong areas and puts his backs under immediate preasure... He saps energy and enthusiasm from all his fellow team mates. The worst thing is we could all see this before he signed... as with Sancho Martial plus 60 million on a chelsea flop who at the time couldnt even get on the first 11...and the other prima Donna's.... so why did we sign them. Give our youngsters a chance instead of wasting all that money... We could have at least tried Ronaldo mixed with the younger generation to see if we could move forward. What Utd have now is woefully inadequate and theyre not a team.

I agree with what Souness said about Pogba. My issue with it is that he gives Bruno the benefit of the doubt but not Pogba. If Bruno played for City or Liverpool, we would see a totally different player. The same can be said for Pogba. We saw him at Juve, and he was a totally different player.

Mr Souness knows what it takes to make a winning team. Pogba, for me, didn't take enough initiative, and if he's unwilling to do that the talent never gets applied. Rashford would have been a sub on the bench in the 1999 side. Again it's mentality with Rashford. Martial? Huge mentality problem! Man Utd under Ole were killing it until Ronaldo joined. It upset the balance of the side because others had to do his pressing work. And Ronaldo realised the low quality of the players around him and it annoyed him.

It's hilarious how Sourness said united should have kept Ronaldo because he was a "top professional". He refused to come on as a substitute and stormed off down the tunnel. He was on £600k-£700k a week. What's professional about that? Can't argue with his achievements and how he's looked after himself but you're well paid to do something, do it.

Pogbas career changed for the worse after that Mourinho spat during a game vs Spurs when Pogba tried to tell Mourinho why he shouldnt do what he was asking. He was subbed off in that game and benched in the next match in a crucial UCL game. He went on to win the World Cup that summer where Mourinho made some unnecassry comments to down play his performances. He since never recovered and Souness is right, winning the World Cup made Pogba not take on any feedback.

Rashford had a good half season where he proved himself after the World Cup in which he had limited play time. However, he has not shown much consistency in terms of assists or goals, which is important for a wide or inside forward. As a United fan, I believe they should have taken the money from PSG and used it to sign much-needed players. I respect Rashford's charity work, but it may have been a distraction for him.
