Also, matching the diameter isn't as important as ensuring cambium contact (basically some parts of the scion and the rootstock must be touching at certain points so that vital functions can be continued) sometimes the diameter is right but the cambium of one part isn't touching the other and the graft fails. A tip though is to place the graft in slightly nudged to the side so that at least there's two points of cambium contact (if not 4 points of contact) just thought I'd point this out since I didn't see it in your video. But yeah great content though! :D
@KellyTheReiss3 жыл бұрын
TL;DR place in your graft a bit crooked (it doesn't matter if one bit is sticking out at the end, as long as contact is ensured it should be okay) so that the inner barkish bits of the two seperate bits touch at least on some points

I am currently planting different mango varieties such as carabao mango and katchamita a.k.a Indian mango, citrus fruits such as oranges and Calamansi (native here in the Philippines and in SE Asia), jackfruits, avocados, and different southeast Asian fruits. I also have an apple in our backyard, based on my research, apples can't be productive or thrive in tropical places but there's nothing wrong with trying right? That's it, take care always sir! Hope I can visit your garden in the future😉

This is a fantastic video! It is the middle of summer for us her is Australia, if i start the process now, do you think my mango tree will survive has the months get cooler or should i wait for next summer?
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
Go ahead and try it now and if it doesn't work you can always try again next season.

@@sarahjanineallen3223 yes, i've posted messages in KZbin's community section to try and connect folks in Australia but it didn't work. Keep searching and good luck.

Wait! I see others put a plastic bag over it. Do I keep it in a shaded area or direct sun?
@SleepyLizard Жыл бұрын
Sometimes we put a plastic bag over it. And yes, we keep them in the shade house out of the sun.

Curious, any experience and good results from grafting more than one variety Mango to root stock with several branches? As an example, early season. mid season and late season.

I don't know with mango but people do that with avocado and citrus

I have double rootstock grafted mangos, do I plant both roots in the same hole or do I cut off one root before planting
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
sounds like you might have a polyembryonic variety which means you can separate them and plant them each in their own pot...you don't have to graft polyembryonic varieties either...you'll get identical fruit in 3 years. Do you happen to recall the type of mango you got the seed from?
@Dasol02463 жыл бұрын
It’s a grafted giant catimon, bought it double rooted was just wondering how I plant it, never bought a double rootstock fruit tree

Will you have mango scions available soon?

Hi Omar, Unfortunately I don't sell scions nor trees anymore. I'm too small to keep up with each state's regulations. I stick to selling the fruit these days.

Hey I live in Savannah ga I like mangos and avocado what do u recommend for me to plant up here Love your channel btw 🙂
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
I’ve got other customers in Savannah and with some work you can grow avocados you are unlikely to be able to grow mangoes successfully in the savanna climate however. I recommend a cold hardy Avocado variety like Oro Negro or Hass

You mentioned that you cut into the root stock off center. Is that just slightly off center? I've tried grafting mangos many times with no success. I always tried to cut the root stock straight down the middle, maybe that was part of my problem.
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
Slightly but noticeable to the human eye..there's clearly a narrow side and a thick side.
@rherteux3 жыл бұрын
@@SleepyLizard Thank you! Also, I've found that the snipped root stock will constantly want to send up new branches. I'm assuming you break those all off when you see them so that maximum energy will go to the scion?
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
Yes you need to prune the rootstock so it doesn’t revert.

So can you explain zoning? Does the seed has to be local and graft of any variety ? Or both? Or seed can be from anywhere and graft have to be compatible with the zone?

Yes. But someone else will make this correction if I don’t. They are all the same species. They differ by variety. I knew what you meant though.
