@@retrogirl1195 From what I understand, it is usually not enough. There's a loophole in the law that says they can still have the hounds chase scent trails that the hunters themselves set out. But hounds are going to do what hounds are bred to do. If they happen to cross paths with the scent trail of a real fox, they'll chase that instead. And if it goes to court, because the fox got killed, they can just say it was an accident. The number of convictions is pretty low for this particular crime.

If it gets away - so be it. They are never punished for that. So many things can effect the scent of a fox - any variation in weather can have an effect on a kill. I have mixed feelings about this. I feel really bad for the fox.... but at the same time if the numbers aren’t kept down I can really see them becoming a threat to pets and small livestock. I’m in the US and we have coyotes. They aren’t hunted or trapped or anything and they are a huge problem. They eat chickens, cats, rabbits, chase ponies, breed with domesticated dogs, etc, and I’d hate for that to happen in the UK too. But It’s sad nonetheless😔

This is such an inefficient way of controlling foxes, what a waste of time, effort and money. Living in the country I just tell the Local game keepers or terrier men about the foxes then it’s sorted, might cost a few pints, but much cheaper than running horse and hounds and quicker. I hate people who support foxhunting. I have heard people say that the dogs never kill or hurt the fox but that's not true. I understand killing it with a gun because its quick, but this is not ok. There are times that one of the dogs bring back a fox still very much alive but suffering. How would one if these fox hunter like to be hunted for hours on end then when they are tried and can't run anymore they get ripped apart by about 12 or more dogs.
