the grooves in the barrel that make a bullet spin are called rifling. The guns in the 1800s did have that. However, the pistols were not that accurate at range (still true today to an extent). That is why rifles such as the Winchester repeater were popular for shooting at a distance.

Deadwood, SD is cute, touristy, busy even in off season. Custer, SD is pretty cool and a good place to stay because it's in the middle of a bunch of cool places. Mount Rushmore, Crazyhorse, Devil's Tower, Wind Cave, Mammoth Site.

Tell Leia open carry is legal in AZ...and NV... and TX. Not sure about NM Handguns in the 19th century did have rifling. The inaccuracy came from poor powder in the bullet, and frankly shooting under stress. Also black powder creates light grey smoke. After a few rounds, it is difficult to see a target. This is GREATLY under played in movies, like say Tombstone. Speaking of that, recommend you watch Deadwood and Tombstone or Wyatt Earp to get some historical context.

Tombstone is a great little town to visit. They have gunfight re-enactments during the tourist season. It's blasted hot during mid-day, but if you're walking on the shaded sidewalks, you only drop dead a little bit LOL! I was there with my brother a few years ago. We had lunch in a little corner restaurant, and though the air conditioning wasn't working that well, it was comfortable because the climate is so dry. Silverton, Colorado is a treasure. I visited there during the winter one time via automobile, and another couple of times via the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge steam railway. It's a wonderful trip!

Mr. Graham please look for Jackson Hole Town Square livestream. Located in Jackson Hole Wyoming It is a livestream of the center of town intersection. The park as you will see has four entrances. Each entrance is framed by an arch constructed of Elk antlers. Each year the Elk shed their antlers, and local Boy scouts gather them to be used for this purpose. Snowstorms as you will see if you follow throughout the winter can be incredible. Christmas here is magical; they do show dogsled races that start from the Townsquare as well. Always something to see.

Greetings from San Diego, CA. As always really enjoy your videos and love of the US. There is a small town in southern California called Julian, old west town with a lot attractions. If you ever get a chance, check it out, even if there isn't enough to do a video on, I think you'd love the place. It's small, with about 1400 residents and is a bit touristy but so worth it and if you can go in peak season, the apple orchards are famous for supplying the area with ingredients for the apple pies and ciders the area is now famous for. Again, thank you for sharing with the rest of us. Take care and be safe.

Charleston getting snow in the winters. However, one that you are probably not aware of is that it does SNOW in Hawaii!! The big island of Hawaii get snow on the top of the mountains. I fact, when I was a kid and we were flying home from Hawaii in July, the mountain peak got snow that night. Keep up the great reviews, hope you can see some good ones on our celebration of Thanksgiving coming up at the end of the month.

I plan on retiring this year, along with moving from California to Kingman, Arizona. It can get hot there, with summer temps of 43.3 celsius, but you can cool off at the Colorado River nearby or at Lake Mohave, Lake Havasu, or Lake Mead. During the winter it can snow in Kingman. Arizona, is a beautiful place, home of the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater and the longest drivable section of Route 66, not to mention the river and lakes I mentioned. They also supposedly have their own Bigfoot type cryptid called the Mogollon Monster, with its name giving away its stomping grounds.

Dodge City native here. Dodge is called the Cowboy Capital as well as the Queen of the cowtowns. In the 1880s cowboys would drive cattle up from Texas to Dodge City so that the cattle could then be loaded onto trains to be taken back east to slaughter houses. Today Dodge City is still a big cattle town with 2 beef packing plants. It has a Casino and every summer it has Dodge City Days which includes a stop on the professional rodeo tour.

When I was in my early teens, back in the ancient mid-1970s, our family moved into a house in Kansas with a number Western-themed features. In particular, my father absolutely loved the swinging saloon doors separating the kitchen and family room, and the big wagon wheel chandelier hanging over the family room. In recent times I've looked up photos of our old house on the real estate websites, and I see that all those Western features have been eliminated now. If Dad were around to see for himself, he'd be so disappointed.

In the early days ,there were no railroads in Texas , so Texans who wanted to sell their cattle to the big cities in the east ,," drove" their herds to the nearest railroad connection to the east , which was in Dodge City , Kansas .The essence of cowboy culture was these " cattle drives " where a group of cowboys on horseback would spend months making a herd of hundreds , maybe even thousands , of cattle walk for hundreds of miles to the railroad . Naturally when these cowboys finally got into town after months on the trail they were pretty wild . It reminds me of my cousin Marty , who was the officer on nuclear submarines in charge of the atomic reactor , would talk about how crazy those sailors were when they finally came into port after 3 months UNDER WATER .Their home port was Rota , Spain .

As military veteran what you were talking about with the barrels it's called rifling it's basically cutouts in a spiral all the way down the barrel which makes the bullet spin keeping it in a straight trajectory that's the easiest and layman's terms it gets really scientific but that's basically what it does it makes the bullet spin so it goes straight shotguns most of them don't have rifed barrel because people usually shoot a shotgun to spread the bullets out but if they're shooting a slug which is a single big giant bullet out of a shotgun sometimes you can screw in a rifle barrel or change barrel or put a choke on it so yes rifling and guns change everything back in the civil war with the muskets it was the same thing like the muskets you probably shot at somebody you probably hit the guy 6 ft over to the right you weren't even aim that it's crazy

Here in Arizona we have a mix, bottom half of the state is desert. Then going north, it goes to pine tree forests, and snow in the winter (though we do get snow down in the desert some years). The top half of the state is a mix of forests and high plains and high deserts. Here in the middle (which is Phoenix), it gets cold in the winter time. We get snow on the outskirts of the city out in the desert like the Superstition mountain range area. Yes Arizona is a wondrous mixing pot of different climates.Nice pine forests up to 8000ft elevation. Then down by the border of Mexico is real rough super dry brush desert scrub land. We have wonderful national forests, state parks, and vast open lands. One can be in Phoenix in the desert and drive two hours north and are in the forest surrounded by lakes,creeks/streams,and jeep trail rugged mountains.

Tombstone has atmosphere actors, lawmen, gunslinger, whores, and dance hall girls. They aren’t working every day, basically weekends and peak tourist season. However, if you go there, it’s in Arizona and locals are very proud of their old west history. Regular people from the area do open carry there. That with the old west pride and gunslinger glorification, it can be unnerving to people from outside a state like Arizona. It’s perfectly safe, but the guns aren’t fake, just some of the ammunition is. The kiddos might be nervous because the staged gunfights sometimes catch you off guard. The town leans into the 2nd amendment and gunslinging.
