You absolutely must stay at Miss Mollies. It was a brothel back in the day and everything is still original! Make sure you stay in the suite as it has the only private bathroom and has an adjoining room for the kids! It is also known to be haunted! It has just a handful of rooms, all decorated different and shares a common bathroom. We had a blast when we stayed there and we only live about 10 miles from the Stockyards! Also, take the Grapevine Vintage train ride. It comes with an old fashion train robbery!

From the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association website : Longhorn beef is leaner than other breeds and is lower in saturated fats. Packed full of flavor, Longhorn beef has less cholesterol and calories than white meat. Including lean beef in a heart-healthy diet can positively impact blood cholesterol levels.

Since you liked the railroad there, I'll let you know that there are quite a few of them scattered around the country. Two I've ridden are the ride through Royal Gorge, and the Durango & Silverton RR, both in Colorado. When she got to the 19:12 point, she talked about the horse driven carriages and conestoga wagons. I'd call them stagecoaches and covered wagons, which is what they're called in many to most Westerns. At around 20:20, the river reminded me of the River Walk in San Antonio.

My Father bought a country place in Maryland and some of his buddies from Texas got together and bought a Longhorn and had it shipped to him. He Loved that thing!! I think he liked it mainly for the reactions the people in Maryland had when seeing it. They're not exactly common up north.

Public drinking rules and laws in the US are different everywhere. Some towns only let you drink in public during special events or on certain streets while others make it completely illegal. You must check with the locals of the area or you could get a huge fine or arrested. Always ask before drinking.

In America, you are not allowed to drive without a license as well. You may not get arrested, but they will not allow you to drive away. They may ask you to call someone to pick you up, have a licensed driver drive your car or they might impound your car.
@daricetaylor7377 күн бұрын
Jono, just because they have a lot of bars and drink spots does not mean you can get an alcoholic drink and walk around with it. There are absolutely no drink and walk allowed in Texas. Some states do have laxer laws, so be sure to check it out online before you come over to be sure you don't wind up in trouble. You can purchase a drink, but you must sit and drink it, then get up and continue to tour.

When you come to America, and if you do not have a navigational system in the car, use Siri and not Google maps. Bought a year ago a British couple came to America and use Google maps and they took an hour just to find a Starbucks because streets were closed. If they had asked Siri “where is the nearest Starbucks?” They would have been directed on the right street that were not closed. Are use Siri all the time for directions. I will ask “directions to 123 Main St.“ hopefully you can navigate your way through America with few problems. I look forward to your family visiting the US.

Ranches still do "drives" . That is how cattle are moved from winter to summer pastures/ranges for example. The huge cattle drives, like to a rail head, and hence the " cowboy era" was only about a 30 year span. Approximately 1855 - 1885. The expansion of the railroad network made them unnecessary. "Cowboy" was a derogatory term for most of the 19th century. Drover or Hand e.g. " ranch hand" were the preferred term.
@manic33767 күн бұрын
especially in tourist areas, any drinking in public laws are generally ignored unless you are being disorderly and causing a problem. There are festivals and other places where people are drinking while walking around all the time. Just don't cause a fuss, don't drive and you are fine. Now if you are at .... say...a bank or shopping center that is not in a place like the Stockyards, you might have some explaining to do if you are drinking. Generally speaking, if drinks are being sold on the street, you can drink them there. If not, don't.
@mildredpierce45067 күн бұрын
6 feet from tip to tip is not from the cattle head to the tip of the horn. It is actually 3 ft. for each Horne or a total of 6 feet across. It’s not 12 feet across.

The Longhorn breed is not well known. They are temperamental. They don't make good pets, Jono. The ones you see in Fort Worth walking along the streets are probably pretty old & much more docile. I live in Fort Worth and many of the locals even do the 'touristy' stuff. Walk a little further or drive a bit & the shops are much more reasonably priced. Not that you shouldn't visit all of these. For nightly entertainment, also visit Sundance Square. In the summer there will be free concerts & open entertainment. Old fashioned but different from the Stockyards. They do still have cattle auctions just west of downtown.

You don't want to drink in public unless there are signs indicating it is allowed. Most of these are either roped off areas or else at festivals (within the festival grounds). If in doubt, look around and see if anyone else is drinking in public. If the locals are doing it then you will be allowed to drink also. There may be some smaller states that don't care but most will have restrictions to public drinking. If you travel to Texas, it would actually be great for RVing and you can do all kinds of stuff in just that one state. There is Austin, Hueston, Ft Worth, Dallas, and many more places. Activities including rodeos and horseback riding and gun shooting. You can even ride up into Oklahoma to check out some Indian Powwows just north of Texas. There is a large Indian population there but check the powwow calendar to know when and where these are. Just like rodeos, you never know where they will be except look them up online for dates and times.
