$800k invested in assets such as securities like stock or bonds (assume 5% dividend/interest) can safely provide you with $40k annually which is a decent amount to pursue what you want (execept a lavish lifestyle)

It's interesting what we allow people to do without criticism , so long as they have the financial ability to do otherwise. Khabib (the UFC fighter) lives with his parents, and is praised up and down for it. They call him a very family oriented person, who cares a lot about his parents. Contrast that to somebody living at home who may not be able to afford to move out, and they will be crucified for it. This man pee's in a bottle in his van, and everybody laughs, but only because he can afford a house. This is a very strange paradox. I have no opinion on it btw, I just think it's weird.

It's funny how the interviewer lost focus of the story and made it more about himself than his subject. He kept projecting his lifestyle onto the way Alex lived his life and couldn't wrap his head around why Alex wasn't prioritizing getting laid over climbing.

I think Alex Honnold is a pretty amazing person and athlete. He now dose a lot of charity work also I believe. I saw another interview on him where he said even though he makes a good living now he donates around one third of his income to some charity projects. He also said he only buys what he needs. He has such a good out look on life. Still I'm not sure living in a van is for everybody. The media has certainly glorified it in a lot of recent films. In reality it would be challenging with a lot of periods with not much to do in my opinion. I enjoy climbing and spending time in the woods but also like coming back to my house that's for sure.

Honestly this interview is the one Alex seem most comfortable with imo. And most into the conversation. These haters should go watch how Alex give "whatever" or "here you go" or "i don't know" sorto face to most if not to every single interviews he had done in the past (especially at the end of his talks). Seriously people should learn to see to the more positive side of things. Things are not always about negativity, people react differently to different scenarios. That's the reason you can't judge a person by their external/facial reaction to certain conversation. People gone through each of their lives differently, so experiences must be different with 100% certainty. So the reactions will be different, also how they act. Also we don't really know how these two dudes(males rarely bash their fellow males in twist talk, instead they will talk straight right in the face .or in this case, would never do the interview in the first place if they really hated each other or by one side) spend their time off the camera. I mean there are many scenarios here, and many more evidents left to judge the interviewer a bad guy. I really just can't understand why people nowadays are so close minded and rarely have a backup reason in their claims. Very very bad era in human race indeed.

I live in a house and I have a pee bottle. 😇 It's true, it is much easier than waking up, rolling out of bed, turning a bunch of lights on, (and remembering to turn them all off again lol) and going all the way back downstairs to my bedroom, when I can just reach over and pee in a bottle. I definitely know, what he´s talking about! If I had a van, I would live there, too and go from one place to the next. But since we only have a nearly broken down Renault Grand Espace for the two of us, we can only do that for a few weeks at a time. And pee bottles are very comfy ^^. Just think, it´s freezing outside and you have to pee very urgently - you have to put on a thousand clothes just to let them down again in the snow...äh äh! Pee bottle is what you wish for!

Pedophile van?Hmm,I lived in my van for a couple of years and I didn,t hear any pedo jokes about my van!!!Maybe we have different kinds of friends in the climbing world,and most of the free soloists I was climbing with are dead.My 70 footer f-Ed up my climbing,so I moved onto a different life.I,ll have to ask my friend Hugh Burton about it,and see if he heard any pedophile jokes with the van life.He used a pick-up truck to live in,so did I,but moved into a van for comfort reasons.But unfortunately eventually you have to park it.Thats a sad day that comes to us all Mr.Honnald.
