Anything’s possible. I was off the shits too. 8 ball a day mixed with various pills and acid. Never liked meth only tried it twice. Have od twice and have wrecked while on multiple drugs. I’ve seen the grim reaper multiple times but still here. Life’s a trip. Was told relapse is inevitable in a rehab center so hopefully stays clean for the rest of his days.

I had alcohol as a baby. Whiskey for teething pain. Then whenever we’d have a family event the kids were allowed an alcoholic drink. I’ve never had a drink problem and I don’t drink any alcohol as an adult because it doesn’t interest me in the slightest. It’s not all down to early exposure and more to do with things like trauma and self medication. There’s hope for everyone:)

It's something only an addict/alcoholic can understand; how, once we get sober, we can discuss our horrible experiences with laughter in our voices. It's not that it's actually funny, it's more that we're in amused awe & shock of the lengths we went through to get messed up. Kind of a "laugh to keep from crying"/exasperated "how am I alive" thing. It's not everyone's experience, but I've found a lot of us develop that dark sense of humor as a coping mechanism while we're using, & it sticks with us once we come to terms with how our lives used to be.

You don't really beat addiction...you just hold it at bay for as long as possible. I'm an opiate addict in recovery myself, and just passed 4 years clean, it's still harder than you think to not get the idea of "I'm cured now, I can do drugs again and they won't fuck up my life!" Ironically they fuck up your life faster then the last time. Don't get me wrong I am GLAD he's sober now, but it's a life long battle to stay clean and sober and we can't let our guards down for even a second cause this disease will find a way to worm itself back into your body...

No offense, but I think you have a worse understanding of addiction than I do. I drank heavily for years, self-medicating my bipolar, now that I'm getting more stable, it looks like I'm not actually an alcoholic, though I am DEFINITELY STILL WARY OF IT. Why don't you take some courses, become a counselor? You'll have a better understanding of addiction, and maybe be able to help others effectively. Its wjat I plan to do. I went through a hellish, out-of-control couple of decades, and I would love to make at least some small positive difference in the lives of people like me.

People have just gotten better at hiding them. We need to change that and start embracing the flaws and helping each other overcome them. We are only as strong as our support system. The problem is that the people who appear weaker are the ones that need a stronger support system in place, but those are the people we usually give up on first.

My grandma gave me hot wine when i was 3 to put me to sleep, i starting DRINKING heavily at 11. Drank into blackouts till i was. 38. Been sober since 2015. Became a knife maker, an abstract poet, a short story writer, Astronomy enthusiast, and taught myself to play the piano, writing my own music. Alcohol was my #1 priority. Never considering the talent i had locked away. I wasted 25+ years of my life inside a whiskey bottle! I live every day greatful to have survived all that, to become a winner!! I have tons of respect for Steve O ! An inspiration to us all for he was an exceptional dirt bag, turned clean!! FUCKING Miricale!!

It's crazy how well this guy has handled his addiction, all things considered. Most addicts have burned all their bridges when they get to his age. Steve-O's addiction was purely self-destructive. Compare that to the way Bam is handling his addiction, it's quite a contrast. Steve-O went through living hell with his humanity intact. Very inspiring :)
