Years ago I was lucky to have a chance meeting with Ron Howard and his lovely wife I was a clerk at a gas station and he was so kind to take a moment for a picture with me while filming in Big Sur Ca. The weather was awful and I didn’t like how my pic came out not knowing Ron’s wife overheard me Moments later Ron came back in the station and said he would take another photo with me Such a sweet and kind gesture I will never forget him and his wife They are amazing people

I met Ron Howard's wife who was then his girlfriend. They were high school sweethearts from what I remember, and she was really a sweet young lady. She said she was surprised he chose her. But I could see why he chose her and she chose him. I talked to her at L.A. Valley Jr. College around 1974. I have been so happy they have been together all this time.

The Howard house was two houses away from my family. We kids in the neighborhood all played in the streets together. My memories are that your parents were upstanding people in the community always putting on plays at the elementary school and giving back to the neighborhood. Your mom seemed very upbeat and happy involved in the school PTA with all the other moms. Dad seemed more quiet. It was a stable childhood for the rest of us. We saw you both as just normal kids and loved the made up games we played in the streets. I can remember Ron being in charge and he would say we are going to play hide and go seek with a twist. It’s a no brainer that he would direct. It was good Simple times.

Ron Howard is a living testament to a solid family upbringing. During the pandemic, I began re-watching The Andy Griffith Show. Everyone in it is wonderful. I loved the relationship between Andy and Opie. I read that one time, Ronnie began to act out on set. His dad took him aside, spoke to him, and said if he didn't behave, he would take him off the show. That's a loving father. Great interview!

There are many, many terrific people in Hollywood who live stable and happy lives, and never fall into the tabloid life. I venture to say there are more good, strong, and even conservative people working there than you would guess from the headlines. Remember: sleaze is what sells, so the normal people rarely get interviewed. I know. He gave us permission to be kind and humble and unapologetic for not being in the rough crowd. To just be yourself and show kindness to everyone no matter what. He is a wonderful person and his and Clints relationship is something that even now all of us can appreciate in that they have lived life but have a place for one another always….. that’s not something everyone can say. This was a fantastic interview and sheds insight to what we’ve always known which is we grew up in these times and have carried those life lessons all along. I feel like I grew up with Ron Howard...we were both born in 1954. From Opie, to the stutterer in Music Man, and the kid in Twilight Zone's Walking Distance I somehow have always felt a connection. I even remember Clint as Leon, the kid in the cowboy outfit on Andy Griffith offering his sandwich and I never missed an episode of Gentle Ben. They just always felt like neighbor kids who made good. I never understood it, except as Brian puts it-prejudice, without understanding the politics, cruelty, and/or the Academy’s ‘superiority’. Apollo 13 was a marvel of film, and I actually feel like Brian because it makes me angry when deserving people get slighted. Ronnie Howard is so humble. He talks about how all these people he worked with as "the greats". Yet, he IS one of the GREATS, too. His beginning films in the 80s, like Night Shift, Splash, and Cocoon, left us all wanting more from him. From those films, he skyrocketed the talents in such stars as Michael Keaton, Tom Hanks, John Candy, and Daryl Hannah who continued onward to entertain us even more. For me and, I'm sure, others of my generation, they were the golden days of talented directors like Ron Howard, which also included George Lucas, Steven Spielburg, and Rob Reiner. They learned from the greats of the past and made films even better. They were true storytellers, when storytelling, not special effects, was the main objective. That one hit after anther seems to have faded as Special Effects seems to now predominate current day films. I was watching the previews at the movie theatre the other day and so disappointed to see not one that I'd want to watch, even if they were put on television. And new films that I have watched recently don't seem to have that heart, the deep genuine human connections, Ron spoke about when his father spoke up in creating the father-son relationship between Opie and Andy. That needs to return, because no matter how fantastic the special effects are, it does nothing for the story without the deeper human factor in the story itself. Its a bit sorrowful that the newer filmmakers cant seem to grasp that concept. However, I am glad to have had that moment when there were great talented storytellers like Ron Howard. Its still wonderful to watch the classics. 😊

I can’t help but reflect on some of the cast lost so early. Tatum O’Neal’s beautiful mom played a role on the show as Andy Taylor’s “lady friend.” Jim Nabor’s life ended way too soon. I will never forget him singing in the choir behind a curtain while Barney took the credit. Such great memories. The writer’s of this show need to be in some kind of hall of fame.

One "brat," Dennis the Menace, airing on TV at that time was enough. Oppie helped the children's viewing audience understand that their parents have their best interests at heart, they're usually right, and can be trusted. The Andy Griffith Show helped shape-- very subtly-- a more positive mood in society. It is one of the best TV shows ever produced. The entire cast brought to life characters that earned their place in our national treasure chest.💎

I think it's impossible for younger people to understand the impact tv shows had back then -- when there were three choices on tv in primetime and huge audiences who all watched it at the same time which magnified the experience exponentially both individually and in the social fabric. Also the shows were multigenerational and families watched together. How many parents were influenced by the positive images of parenting on tv? My mother told me she always used tv shows as her ideals for how to be a good mother -- think about it people had no idea what other people were doing except for a few family members and personal friends. I didn't like Dennis. He wasn't intentionally bad, but it was if Dennis didn't always have an inert concept of when he had pushed too far. He wasn't able to read body language or subtle facial expressions. Most kids are very adept at this. Dennis was the kid that would grow up to have little compassion for those in his orbit. Oppie was quite the opposite. He watched the adults around him, in an effort to understand and fit in. Oppie was the kid that would grow up to be a kind and decent adult. Kinda like Ron Howard.

My parents were divorced when I was two, and I didn't really know my father. We always watched the Andy Griffith Show..and, I could feel the warmth coming through the screen when Opie and his Dad were communicating..It was an awesome feeling. I just knew that that could be what it was like in a home.

I believe that most kids underestimate their parents. They lack the maturity and life experience to understand that there are layers to everything. I always liked Ron. My husband of over 60 years having had Alzheimer’s toward the end watched Andy Griffen every single night!!!! No matter what we were doing, Dining out, a party, whatever we ‘had’ to be home when the show came on. Usually 8:00 in those years & you could always see him looking at his watch!!! This occurred throughout his years with Alzheimer’s. Brings tears to my eyes to think of the joy he received from that amazing show. He met Andy Griffen when his business associate left the insurance business & joined Andy’s venture into Bar-be-cue in North Carolina. Always you can find a positive lesson in what they were able to achieve on that show!!! 😊😊😊❤

You guys have no idea how much I wish Graham or any interviewer would have asked Ron the simple questions , " how was it working with Johnny Cash as an actor?" " what do you remember about Johnny Cash when you starred in the same movie with him in 1961?" That would have blown my mind. Ron howard and Johnny cash, in the same movie!!!! A good movie. Both, in their younger days!! Child and very young adult.

Ron is one of the most brilliant filmmakers of our time and one of the few child stars focused beyond himself making great uplifting content for humanity. On a personal note we are close to the same age and as a child during The Andy Griffith show Andy and Don Knotts vacationed at Alisal Ranch and I played ping pong with Andy and Don ( beat them both to brag) at 8 years old. Don was better than Andy BTW. They were so nice to me and my Dad said it was OK to beat then even tho they were TV stars. 🤪

As Ron has aged, I have become more impressed with his intelligence, creativity, and articulation. BTW, we are the same age. I always thought his early acting was somewhat stilted, but he came into his own and he seems to have a genuine interest in people...Would love to meet him if ever out his way. I have made some short-films so I have a slight idea of how to turn ideas and visions into shared and appreciated entertainment. I was less impressed with Clint (as people used to say he rode Ron's coat tails for roles and recognition and he had issues to contend with as well).....but he has become more appreciated later in life I think.

A great movie Ron Howard was in that I watched with my dad was "Bitter Harvest". A very moving true life story about contaminated feed in Michigan's agriculture. Being from Michigan it really hits you hard about contamination and cover ups.
