The purpose of the modified Scherrer equation is to provide a new approach to the kind of using Scherrer equation so that a least-squares technique can be applied to minimize the sources of errors. Modified Scherrer equation plots ln(β) against ln(1/cosθ) and obtains the intercept of a least-squares line regression, from which a single value of D is obtained through all of the available peaks. In this video, I have shown how to use the modified Scherrer equation.

Thank you for this video and for your XRD course in general! Have you think to create a video with the first step of XRD-calculations, I am talking about instrument broadening, and how to work with it, what does it mean. Thank you!

Hey! I love your videos. They're so illustrative! I work with semiconductor nanoparticles. Would you know any way to remove the scattering in some cases in absorption spectroscopy when working with nanoparticles that have this phenomenon? Greetings:)
@nanoworld6122
@nanoworld6122 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I'm not aware of any method to remove or reduce the scattering from the absorption spectra. If you are doing it for the bandgap energy estimation, then It will be better to use the Diffuse Reflactance Spectroscopy (DRS) instead of absorption spectroscopy.
@torerotricking1
@torerotricking1 4 жыл бұрын
@@nanoworld6122 it is not for bandgap energy estimation, it is just for absorbance when scattering is occurring.

Thanks for sharing, but as explaned in a previous video, both strain and crystallite size contribute to peak broadening, then why the effect of strain is ignored in the modified Scherrer equation?

thanks for this video, but in the derivation of the modified Scherrer equation the slope (m) is one, while when you are fitting the curve the slope (m) is 2.5. if you change the slope to one the intercept will change and ultimately your grain size. please explain this conflict.

But the slope on your graph of experimental data is not 1 as you assumed in your theory! You didn't account for that in your actual calculation for D
