The Grand Canyon is one of the few things in life that did not disappoint me. I would recommend driving in while it is dark, going to one of the less crowded observation points, and watching the sun come up. The colors of the rocks are amplified tenfold when the sun is at a low angle.

Sorry you didn't get the opportunity to hike down, Jacob. Our high school Senior trip in 1980 was to the Grand Canyon wherein we hiked down Bright Angel and came back up via Kaibab. At the bottom is the raging Colorado River, and when you look up, the walls of the Grand Canyon are so majestic. On the hike back up, at the first plateau the Moon shined ever so brightly. Forty-two (42) years later, I still remember like it was yesterday.

Definitely need to see the Grand Canyon in person to truly appreciate it. There's a fun steam train ride from Williams that goes right to the Grand Canyon. You spend about 3 hours at the GC before returning. fYI, there's a few deaths per year at GC, falling or unprepared hikers. You could always visit Sequoia National Park when you are in California.

You should visit Death Valley National Park - $30 entrance fee but maybe not in the full heat of summer lol…120-130 degrees… Spring is the best time to go there with wildflowers. It would be a nice place to visit on your way back east from Cali if you have time. Another option is Joshua Tree NP in SoCal desert with also a $30 entrance fee. Both would be amazing to see you visit.

(National Park Suggestion, Attempt 1) You have to visit Mesa Verde National Park in the South-West of Colorado. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's definitely worth a visit. It is the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan archaeological sites in the whole of the United States. Ancient cliff dwellings, beautiful canyons, tonnes of giftshops, museums, information centres etc.

That 's a water bag that helicopters carry under them then lower the bag into the river and fill the bag up with river water then haul it to a forest fire which I'm told there's one somewhere outside the Grand Canyon that's burning just north of the canyon
