I used to skip college and play Grand Prix 1 on the Amiga for hours everyday. I used a joystick and it had this amazing thing where you could press a key and it would pause the race and you could watch the last 5 to 10 seconds that happened as a spectator. So if you did an amazing pass you could hit this key and watch the moment again. You could choose from about 5 different camera angles and keep watching it as much as you like. Then you hit another key and the race would continue where you left off. Seriously amazing game at the time.

This is probably the first time out of thousands of laps of Interlagos in Gran Prix and other F-1 series where I've noticed the city in the background. Always kept my eyes on the track. :)

The scenaries alone are worth enough to play these, with a propper wheel+pedals.

To be fair to Geoff Crammond, he had by this point in time, 1991, gone and made Revs and its expansion packs and various versions and a flight sim by then for the BBC Micro, among others. F1GP's manual still holds up today and then some. GP2 and 3 had pages and pages of licensing, GP4, IIRC didn't due to moving away from printed manuals (which is a shame), but F1GP? Nah. None of that. Maybe it was the Powerplus version I had, but there was hardly, if any, licensing info in the manual. You could not get away with that today at all. I always want to get the F1GP menu backgrounds as paintings, really because they have that vibe and that art style, from the iconic main menu one of the finish at Monaco, to the session selection and the grid preview. I'd argue F1GP is the best in the series for style, GP2 and 3 couldn't match it after moving to photos, and 4 didn't even try. The closest we got were artsy loading screens. That being said though, F1GP, I lovved the small details of having the menu background of the car with the wheels off and so on while you were in the car setup menu, and when you finished up there was a seperate background of the car with everything in place ready to go, as well. F1GP I'd argue had a lot of small details like that. As good as the photographs were in GP2, 3 and the GPedia in 4 was, it doesn't compare to F1GP. I'd almost go so far to say as those backgrounds in the original were, past the copy protection and into the actual game, painted, or they look that way EDIT: As for GP2, they didn't get all the safety changes in. spa was, thankfully left untouched though. Having spent many many many hours in GP2Edit, I have a soft spot for the Sauber and Simtek liveries. GP2 didn't have a bad livery in the game. Not even Footwork and SVGA limitations. That being said, around that time Mansell didn't show up in many games, he only showed up in the menu for ToCA2 with a big asterisk and a not in the game type thing though too for that one though too

Cramond created Revs in 1985, 6yrs before F1GP... GP4 did have a manual, but it was significantly smaller than previous manuals, due to the small outer box it came in.

The management games were called Grand Prix Manager! There was also a second version GPM2 😅 Can the tracks be modified?? Eg could they have released evolving tracks along with the car models...F1GP on the Amiga ran like a dog with any details switched on..... do you remember the 2player mode, where the game counted down down, and your mate had to jump in?? 😂 Wish Sir Geoff would step back into game developing.... would kill for a Stunt Car Racer remake... sigh.

Grand Prix Manager 1 and 2 are the games I was playing while all my mates were playing footballs Champ manager. The only games I played were all the Grand Prix 1, 2, 3, 4 and Grand Prix manager 1 and 2. My 11 year old son is much the same but with more modern games 😂

Not consoles correct, but F1GP was out first on the Amiga and Atari ST before the PC..... spent hours on it. PC version obviously ran better that the Amiga especially on full detail 😅
