Great shots of Jacky Ickx. How good was Ickx? He won LeMans 6 times(!), second highest of all time. He won at the Nurburgring twice, before the safety modifications. He finished F1 runner-up in two consecutive years, 1969 and 1970. One of the most underappreciated/underrated drivers by today's fans, but a true star in the early 70s.

True true true, 70s and 80s in motorsport. His greatest successes continued the 80s with Le Mans wins in that decade. Let's not forget his Pais-Dakar overall victory in 1983

For crying out loud he had races where he was running top 5 in duo races running a formula 2 car vs the big boys.

the earliest drivers are always the forgotten ones because of the amount of races per season, the aero being nonexistent/ barley there making people think there "easier" to drive, the favt people think people back then knew nothing about racing(i had someone tell me they knew nothing about tyre management, racing lines, ect the tyre management really did it for me cause they werent changing tyres back then😂) and the fact the races werent streamed well until around the 70s-80s

One thing very clear within this sublime footage we are viewing is that the pictures told a story. Speed, sound, Action!!! One cannot compare what 'passes' as f1 today to yesteryear. Drivers actually Driving their cars. Just watch the over-compensating, too much repetitive information that F1TV of SkySports f1 coverage supplies us fans to illustrate that point. Gone even are the days in which we were fortunate to view the practice sessions with no commentating! Sadly, this is what the suits at Liberty Media want to give us. And if that's not enough, they succeed in fictionalizing the truth with their successful pr/marketing aka 'drive to survive'. Thank you very much for sharing what Formula 1 used to be like.

Back in the days f1 drivers were fearless men that risked their life for a world title, had competition and a car very hard to keep steady… today we have princesses on heels that manage their tyres and fuel:

THIS IS AN AWARD-WINNING VIDEO. AS MEXICAN I ENJOYED IMAGES OF THE MEXICAN GP, REALLY CHALLENGING ON THOSE DAYS WTH ITS OLD LAYOUT(NOT TODAY'S MEANNINGLESS ONE). STUNNED WITH DUCKWORTH'S TIELESS AND UNJACKETED IMAGE(FOR THE RECORDS). GREAT SOUNDS AND IMAGES CAPTURING REAL SPEED. CONGRATS...(SORRY!OBVIOUSLY DUCKWORTH IS INTERVIEWED DECADES LATER-FORGET TIE AND JACKET...)

Stewart's 1968 victory at the Ring in the pouring rain was epic. In 1973 at the Ring Jackie said Cevert could have passed him but just followed him to finish 2nd.

The design is satisfying. While 65 and 68 was morphing, it was 69 and downright 1970 that started to look more familiar with nowadays because of the wider introduction of wings. It is outstanding to see the aerodynamics evolving so damn fast from one year to another.

Those cars were gasoline bombs. So many drivers were killed in those years. Things had to change, and they did. It was exciting but really dangerous. The only other motorsport that was more deadly were the Isle of Man TT races over the decades. Looking back my view today is that these races extracted a price in lives that was just too high.

No idea what Jim Clark is doing in this video, unless they found a way to reanimate someone who had been dead for two years. My guess is poor titling and/or poor editing. But on a happier note, the black-and-gold JPS Lotus 72 is THE most beautiful F1 car ever designed (and possibly the most beautiful car of all). I built it as a 1/12th scale Tamiya kit in my teens, and I have another identical kit waiting to be built now I'm in my 60's. I just need to collect some tools and I'll have a go at making an even better, more detailed version 45 years on!
