That GTA 1 soundtrack (joyride) kills me everytime! Fond memories of being only 10 and older cousins, buying the game and being able to play it! GTA 2 was bit meh for me but 3, what a masterpiece. Thankfully my parents were unknown to the level of violence in the game and bought it for me at Xmas, my uncle however got me the same game! I had two copies and was doubly joyful of having both. What an incredible series. Great video Daniel!

that year old kid should not of had gta4 in the first place. this something i think need to be fixed about the esrb rating stem. store should be asking who the game is being bout fore and person answer with there kid, the work should ask how old the kid is and if the kid is younger then the age rating. then the work should tell them to put the game back and find a game that is age aprit.

@42:39 gta 4 is my favorite because it wasn't only about missions, but also about socializing, making friends, playing bowling, go to theatre. you could even go to internet or watch television for hours. it was just about being violent, it was living an ordinary live and trying to be successfull, that "sims-like" aspect was pretty unique and damn good, especially because the russian main character has lot of charisma. comparated to episodes 2, 3 and 5, was more about being violent and nothing else. gta vice city and gta 4 was the prime time of the serie to me.

Eh, Liberty City Stories was pretty good. A bit of a disservice to compare it to DLC or mission packs. Fixed plenty of issues with the originals, added features and fleshed out some of the side characters. Tony was a more entertaining protagonist than the silent one from GTAIII. It also became a coveted PSP UMD because the first release allowed an exploit that let PSP owners run unsigned code (read: homebrew apps, """""backups"""" of games, downgrading of firmware, etc.)
@JohnDoe-fi9li7 жыл бұрын
Nice video by the way. I never made the connection between the originals and the Driver franchise back then.
@endlessedgar45767 жыл бұрын
John Doe Yup. Liberty City Stories > Hands down, best story of the 3D Era. SA is just weak in comparison, it's just the MASSIVE features (That most people don't like or don't care about anyways...) what makes it stand out from the others. VC: Have you seen Scarface? You've played VC then. VCS: Feels like a rushed afterthought that barely connects to VC.

Man, I remember back when I was a kid, all of my friends had copies of either GTAIII, GTA:VC or GTA:SA, and they played them all the time in their PS2's, but me, I only had a PSOne, so I had to play either the original GTA or the improved GTA2. And those games rocked!! they were great, specially GTA2. Even in their early beginnings, there was so much to do in those games and so much to explore, that, every time I played a session I ended up discovering more secrets. And that was on the PSOne version of the game, but then I discovered the PC version of the game had even more content. It always makes me a bit disappointed to see that a lot of people know about GTA and the early 3D games, but very few people have actually tried the first games in 2D, and when they do, most people don't really like them enough to play them for a decent amount of time. Seriously, thanks for making this video, I already know I'm going to enjoy it! :D

I feel like I know quite a lot about GTA but this video knows more! Thank you. I knew that it started out as the B game at DMA under the name race and chase but didn't know the details about where the engine came from. I first played GTA when I got the demo disc with Offical Playstation Magazine and it was like nothing I'd played before. I loved how much of the music you included from the first game! My disc got so scratched I ended up buying another copy and it was one of the platinum reprints. I found out that I could put it in my CD walkman and play the music form the game. one cool 'feature' ended up being that there was a track of outside sounds and a track of police radio. I totally need to get a Game Boy color GTA for my collection, I'd forgotten all about that one! also I didn't know about the GTA:London 1961 pack. Not having the internet when it came out I only knew of the PS1 1969 game. The amount of stuff I'm finding out in this is great. Thanks Dan! One thing I remember from playing London as a kid was my step-dad (playstation stick guy) pointing out that the zig-zag road marking you see while driving around we're wrong as they didn't come out till a later date. Pointless facts! I love how back then going from GTA III to Vice City was just a year. Its such a shame now that with graphics, programming and meeting peoples expectations that it takes thm 6+ years . I love that you talked about the table tennis game, everyone kept talking about the engine at the time and how that was a tech demo for the next GTA! I know this is a long comment, I really enjoyed this video! p.s. You didn't mention Hot Coffee! ;)

Ah, the GTA series... Growing up a Nintendo-kid, I never really had access to the GTA games save for GTA 1 on my Pentium MMX 133MHz PC. I also remember playing GTA 3 quite a bit at a friends house, and then finally Chinatown Wars on DS. Even now when I own all major consoles it just doesn't seem to captivate me as it does others. If Rockstar wants to make some extra money, they should really consider porting the next GTA for Nintendo Switch. Imagine having the console GTA experience on a handheld. Minds would be blown. Even I'd get into GTA at that point. The way I prefer my open world games are more the Shenmue-style and the new Zelda-style though.

The original Grand Theft Auto was the original reason I purchased an Sony Playstation while I was in Middle School, even though I already had an N64. I had GTA, GTA 2, and GTA London 1969. Besides Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, those were the only games I had and cared about on the Playstation.

Congratulations Slopes! I may not be a fan of this franchise, but it is interesting to know that there's a lot more to this franchise than it just being a prototypical "violent video game", so I'm grateful for the video!

One thing I never liked about GTA2 is that they removed Motorcycles from GTA1. They didn't come back until Vice City, but I love the way those bikes handle the best of the entire series.

Love these Complete History series, really worth the watch, even on games I've never played. Id really like to see you do a review similar to the Sky Sports "Premiership Years". Pick a year, say 1998 and review the big games that came out in that year.

Pleasure to watch as usual. Personally I didn't pay attention to the GTA series until Vice City which remains number one for me. The soundtrack, the setting, the story, all is gaming bliss for me. Great video as usual. Keep up the hard work !!!

San Andreas remains my favourite of the series due to the story but one of my favourite gaming memories has to be turning GTA5 on and being greeted by Trevor waking up in a skip. Hilarious! :'D

Bout fuckin time! GTA had that top down view option in III, IV, and V like the original. Loved that.

Me and my Brother and his Friends used to binge play the original game for days at a time to try and clock the score. We would start the game, do enough easy missions to get a reasonable score multiplier (about 5 if I remember) then just head to the docks and start boosting and selling cars. I would have a gridlock of stolen cars to sell one at a time (you wanted to mix the variety because you got less if you sold the same car in a row) and the $$$ you received from the dock was multiplied by your score modifier. The best way was to run up to a car stopped in traffic and fire one shot into the door. The driver would get out and run for it and you could jump in and drive off - which got a lot less heat than outright jacking the car by assaulting the driver. Eventually your heat level would be high enough you would be dodging police marksmen but it was usually easier to be shot dead or drown - because you would lose a life but not your score multiplier. The docks that was near a spray shop was very popular.
