Grand Theft Auto V Story Mode Missing Fix For Xbox Series S|X

If you've recently purchased Grand Theft Auto V enhanced for Xbox Series S|X, you may be wondering why you only have the Online game file if you ordered the pack with both that and the story mode. Here's how you access story mode.

If you buy the pack with both online and story mode, you have to sit through the online setup and prologue and start your online game before you can quit to main menu and access story mode. Once you do that, the menu will launch each time to start the game and you can pick which mode you want.

My word! Thank you for this video. I was feeling a bit bummed that I got the vanilla Xbox One version of GTA Story Mode, but the enhanced X|S version of the GTA Online. It is not at all intuitive that GTA Online hides the enhanced single player mode! It feels like deliberate trolling. Thank you, thank you thank you. I won't tell you how many weeks I had it in my library, too annoyed to play it, because I felt I got cheated.

Sounds like the download has corrupted. Try deleting, shutting down, then download again.

There is a stand alone X/X Story mode version without the online part. Problem is it is $40 US and the version with both is $29 US right now at the time I am writing this. I baught the $29 bundle and like you could not find the graphics mode settings. It was booting up in regular version story mode. Prvious to this purchase I had the old version premium edition so my 1st thought was it keeps installing that version. I finally got ticked off and got the refund. Now I am finding this out and thinking about buying it again to try it out. I just want to know if the stand alone X/S story mode version works and I can avoid the online part all together. Rockstar is just like Blizzard no longer the developer we all loved they have gone the way of EA.

Sounds like it was still detecting your old install. The new version will load up in online mode first. After you get part that you can launch in story mode in future. Hope that helps

Im suffering a similar issue but I have GTA:V Premium edition, and I have purchased nothing else. I played the game in single player mode for 5-10 hours so I know I "have" the game, however since a recent update (I guess?) the game only wants to boot into online mode and when I hit "exit to single player mode" like demonstrated in this upload, it prompts me to purchase the single player mode... Is there something weird with the premium edition that caused you to have to re-buy it? I thought premium included both single player AND online mode (and it appeared to be the case, when I played it last year, around 08/22

@@drwombat Just boot up in online mode then hit play story mode from that menu it will then be the new version. I would remove any other previous copies from your console as to avoid a conflict that could be present. Either way Rockstar could have done a better job with it.

My buddy is having trouble getting the game to even launch. The black gta screen pops up then after 10 seconds it closes the game. He doesnt get any xbox error. He's tried restarting his console and several other things but the game just won't even launch.

That sounds like the install might be corrupted. They could try deleting the install, downloading and reinstalling. Hope that helps!

You're welcome. This said, GTA Online is worth a play even if you want to just play solo. There's a lot of fun stuff in there to play with and many hours of gameplay beyond standard story. I have been playing GTA Online for the past few weeks and I've been enjoying it even mostly playing solo.

I think a big and welcome change is that you can play much of it solo now. It's very grindy, but there are various businesses to set up and the occasional interesting character. No-one as great as Trevor that I've seen so far though!

It's up to you. Story is just playing the single player story. Online is a multiplayer experience. Personally I think the single player game is really fun. But many people love playing online with other players.

I'm having the same problem on PS5, however, when I hit exit to story mode I am prompted to purchase GTA:V -- the thing is, I purchased GTA:V Premium edition (which includes both GTA:V and GTA:V Online). I have tried removing and reinstalling, however I believe that due to a recent update that Rockstar has somehow removed access to the game. I had previously played 5-10 hours of the game in single player mode so I know for a fact that I bought the full version of the game; I just now, cannot play it.

@@GrubMagnet no they just suck at describing their games or can't keep a lid on what each game does when they split it into release, pro edition, premium edition, etc, etc... Turns out when I bought gtav premium edition that at some point they decided to overhaul gtav online and in my PS store I have two games... GTA:v for PS4 and gtav for PS5 and come to find out that when I download the PS4 version I get the single player mode but when I download PS5 version I get online only (some upgraded version that runs slightly differently than the online segment of gtav for PS4...) Absolutely crazy and dumb to split the games up like that with all these special editions especially while lots of games right now are being sold with cross-gen downloads... For example I bought THPS: remastered and it came with both PS4 and PS5 versions so when I download it what version you think I want to get? Rockstar needs to put a note on their damn games... Also somehow the game updated and I lost access to single player I guess it updated from the PS4 version to PS5 automatically then fubar'd everything. Anyways I'm good now but it was still a hassle and terribly un-user friendly

Bit late to this, but just as a heads up as my Gold ran out a few days ago - you go straight to the choice screen where you hit RB to swap to STORY (yes it's still set to ONLINE as default lol Rockstar really wants those shark cards bought) so it's not too much of a pain.

Thanks man I was freaking out I bout my first x box sx and my friend. I think Rockstar's argument would be that they give a lot of value in the game without you having to pay further and that is worth the initial cost. The world you can explore is far bigger than the typical free online MP games.

There’s no ‘normal’. There is online where you play against other players. Story is a single player campaign.

it is a scam rockstar selling the same game from ps3, to ps4, to ps5 era, probably will be a ps6 version and also a scam they make you download the huge gta online mode even if you want to play single player story only for ppl like me who dont care about the online mode cod will let you dl the story campaign seperately and you dont need to dl the multiplayer modes, but not rockstar they want to force waste space on your tiny xbox series x/ps5 hard drives and charge an extra 20 just to upgrade the story mode, pretty scammy and scummy to me

There are a few options. gta online only, with story or just story. I guess you have the gta online pack with story included. It’s not much more.
