My vote is to make the wall panelling higher than the bed frame - I find that a lower wall panelling is more typically used in a colonial style of room decor. Also, (I know you didn't ask) simple wrought iron bed frames would look wonderful in your beautiful rooms.

The coach house is a beautiful building. Your renovations have been sensitive to its history and yet you have brought it into our time with important comforts like heating that does not intrude visually. Nicely done! And, I vote for the higher paneling.

So admiring your sensitive reno-conserva-preservation ethos. The reuse of lovely wood furnishings reminds me of restoration of historic building we did in our colonial community, across the sea. Your family is lovely, with your dear little boy crawling up and down, from Mama to Papa, so endearing. All best to you in your journey.

I vote higher wall panels. The room has high ceilings and if there is a bed in front it needs to project well above the headboard. The work so far is exceptional. I love the attention you give to the preservation of the features. It is going to serve the building well for the next few centuries.

The coach house before and after pictures reflect all the hard work that went into restoring this historic building. The renovations look stunning already. Can't wait to see how it looks finished. I think the wood paneling needs to be higher rather than lower. It will appear more luxurious with the higher panel. Praying you get it done before the baby come. Clement is such a well behaved cutie pie 😍😘
@sarahstainthorpe1162 жыл бұрын
You have done an amazing job on the coach house. For the bed room paint I would try and match two colours from the stone work ,lighter colour on plaster board and medium colour on the panels. The panel height I would match up to the panel on the doors ,so it all lines up. Just a thought.

You're doing a beautiful job. Can see why you are so proud of it. Will be an idyllic place to stay. I agree with Marc, and think the paneling should be higher- otherwise may be dwarfed by the stone walls.

I think the coach house is a lovely building and will be very cozy for the winter. In my humble opinion, I would keep those walls plain and painted in a light colour. This would make the room feel a lot lighter and it would be brighter in the winter months as the sun reflects off of it. You have so many wonderful historical features in the rooms that it would allow them to shine and be the feature. Keeping it simple would also be cheaper and faster. It will look lovely any way that you do it. Thank you for sharing. Jean

Love the introduction sequence, really worked the imagination. What I find astonishing is the amount of wealth the past owners must of had. The staffing that was involved and where they accumulated their wealth- sugar plantations in the French Caribbean ? Slave trade ? Trade with the Ottoman Empire? Amazing And then Suddenly the World Wars and everything came to a complete halt Even after the French Revolution, French Aristocracy apparently continued…🧐 Interesting and Loved the Carriage House - going to be amazing Thank you for sharing 🙂.

Thank you! Actually this traditionally a very poor area and the chateau itself was never a grand, showy chateau but always a working estate. They had huge amounts of land in the valley and earned the money they needed from that. Plus local labour was so cheap.

just a lovely vlog; thankyou. we renovated a barn and put the plugs in the floor and wiring through the pointing with spots which are operated remotely so we didn't have to put in switches and leads on the walls. Lower panelling... higher is reminiscent of the 1920's? On the other hand.. if it was panelled to the ceiling - that would be totally in keeping with the age of the building.. The pinky white you would love is Little Greene's China Clay Distemper.. available in France or by post.. I have it everywhere and it covers anything with a lovely lime softness - but you have probably already seen it..

So happy to see you back & all looking happy & well. Thank you for the Vlog & showing us your progress. On your survey regarding wall paneling, I think the 3/4 height looks more historic vs the 1/2 wall height, which is what we have in colonial homes in America. Either is a nice break from all drywall. As an added option, a hand plaster skim coat over the drywall will also add a more hand crafter look/ feel. The plaster can be colored & then I think it’s a wax coat that gives it a soft, aged finish. That treatment on any drywall will look beautiful with whatever paneling height you choose. 🥰
@Chroniclesofrosieres3 жыл бұрын
This is interesting Teresa as we've been going back and forth about whether to do straight paint or plaster. We really wanted a plaster finish but we've struggled to find one that looks good that can be put straight onto drywall. They just end up looking like grainy, flat walls that will collect dust. We have one more to try though!

FANTASTIC!!! Oh, this video is so good! The green thumbnail is very attractive. You've done beautifully in fading one scene into another, and your camera person did a great job. The historic elements like different mortars make an interesting story. It makes perfect sense that even a semi-sound late-Medieval structure would be repurposed as something else, over and over. Amy, your dress is pretty -- my compliments to the person who laid it out. As to the paneling, Check what historical heights would have been. I suspect wainscoting was higher in the past, at least half-way up the wall.
