Wow that place is busy in the summer. We were there in December 2018 (I think 2018) when the big snow storm hit. Jim Cantore came to Boone. Needless to say we got off the mountain. Florida tourists dont need to be on the mountain when the snow hits. Brought back some great memories watching this one. We ate at the Daniel Boone Restaurant, it was really good. Thanks for taking us back.

So glad you enjoyed the video. This is actually the first time that we've ever had to walk to the top. There is a parking lot right up at the top, but it was so full yesterday, we would have had to have waited in line for a long time. We decided just to walk up. However, if you do get to visit, I want you to know there is a parking lot at the very top. I think it was so crowded yesterday, because of the discount.

Ok, my anxiety kicked in when you showed the ropes from the bridge in the boulder rocks. The squeaking of the bridge and the views got me a little bit more. Then I saw the couple with the little girl. Kudos to y’all. Charlie will tell you right now. I probably would not make that one. Thanks for going across the bridge for me ;)
@NCMemoryMakers7 ай бұрын
You are very welcome. Glad y'all enjoyed it. But it's not really all that bad. When we were hiking back down, we met a woman who was basically walking on all fours going up the trail, and there weren't even any drop offs at that point. She apologized and said she was scared of heights. I told her if she was nervous now, she was not going to like the bridge when she got to the top. I don't know how that went. But the views up there are amazing.

Derrick, I went across the mile high swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain, and I got a 1/4 of the way across, and I froze. I could not go forward and backward. I am afraid of heights, and when the bridge starting swinging and swaying I could not move. Kim was clear over the bridge on the edge of the rocks on the other side, and she was calling to me, but I could not move. A man from my church and a total stranger each took a hold of me on both sides and walked me across the bridge. I made it, but then I had to walk back across. I bought a sweatshirt that said I crossed the mile high swinging bridge to prove that I did it. The views up there sure are beautiful.
@NCMemoryMakers7 ай бұрын
That is a neat story. Thank you for sharing it. Didn't know you had a fear of heights like that. The movement of the bridge, could be intimidating for some.

I was checking out the videos of where y'all go and it is like you are following me! I go to Calabash and Cherry Grove, last year I went to St. Augustine and Sarasota, the only difference is you go into Tennessee and I stay in the NC mountains. The parkway between Grandfather and Blowing Rock is one of my favorite places on earth! You should go to West Virginia and see the Beckley coal mine and the New River bridge.
@NCMemoryMakers7 ай бұрын
Wow, those are some amazing coincidences! We have been doing St. Augustine, Sarasota, and the North Myrtle Beach area for years. We also love doing the NC side of the Smokies, as well. Have you driven the Blue Ridge Parkway section from Cherokee to Asheville? This has the highest elevations on the entire roadway, and some of the views are just spectacular. We did the New River Gorge back in 2019, but unfortunately, we had not started this channel yet, so we don't have a video of it.
@markebass7 ай бұрын
@@NCMemoryMakers I like Florida but last year was my first at Sarasota. I stayed at Siesta Key and loved the clear water and sand that was not hot even though it was 95-100 degrees. I plan on going to Cherokee this year. Hopefully you have some videos I can watch before I go to see if you have some insight. I have been end-to-end on the Parkway but I gravitate to the area around Linville, Banner Elk, and Blowing Rock. I try to do something a little different sometimes which is why I watch channels like this. For example, a few years ago I went to Crossnore based on a youtube video I saw and loved it. It has a Ben Long Frescoe and is known for its looms. I went to West Virginia in October and the fall colors were spectacular. If you don't have it on this channel it didn't happen! You will have to go back.

When you enter the main entrance ask for the times of the animal enrichments so you will be guaranteed to see all the animals. That is the only time I could see the cougars. We were a little confused about GF mtn - do they limit visitors to only neighboring counties? We live in Ohio and would like to come visit, if we could be permitted access.
@NCMemoryMakers7 ай бұрын
No, anyone can come. The "Dollar Days" discount that they have in April, is only for visitors from neighboring counties. That is why I posted the regular price admission information in the opening, as well. But anyone outside of those counties are still welcome to visit. They would just have to pay the full admission, OR be in the vehicle with someone who is local, to get the discount. Visitors from the neighboring counties also pay the full admission price, OTHER than the "Dollar Days" during the month of April. But anyone can come. You probably would have to reserve a time slot ahead, though. We had an 11:00 time slot. It would be best to call, and see if that is a requirement all of the time, or just during the busy time of "Dollar Days". Honestly, this was the busiest we have ever seen it, and I suspect that is because of local people taking advantage of the discount. The time slot may not be required during less busy times.
