It's more conducive to positive change if we can have discussions with those we do not agree with sharing honestly how we feel but also refraining from attacking and disrespecting the other - this way we can invite people to consider a different perspective in a away that they might open up, instead of closing off and becoming defensive. The problem is that traditions are presented to the next generation with an expectation that they be continued "Because we've always done it this way." Refusal to provide the reasoning behind it at best produces lemmings who do things without knowing why, and at worst leads to traditions being rejected as baseless and archaic.

When he had to go to sign his retirement paycheck, he always donned his most distinguished suit, wore his military hat proudly, and walked with pride until at the age of late eighties when his dementia got worse. He can't stand not having anything to do. He'd landscape the lawn, dry up the fish ponds to clean it up, cutting overgrown grass and trees, make wooden sword for fencing even though none of his grandchildren fences, somehow always finding problems before it became a problem and fix it. I'm from India. My grandfather fought in the second WW. My father was in the Indian armed forces and has fought militants and terrorists in the border states of India. And then there was me, a soft, effeminate, obese kid. Since my father was mostly away on his deployments, i was raised by my mother and grandmother, who were overprotective and hindered my development in a natural masculine way. I'm not blaming them, as they gave me the best they could. More so, it was only my grandmother for an extended stretch as my mother was also a teacher and returned home late in the evenings. But after high school, in the University i realised I was going in an abysmal direction. Took charge of my life, got healthier learned life skills, and I'm ass ready as ever to face the world and it's craziness. I'm 27, I'm a german mechanical design engineer by trade with a degree from a state technician school further strengthening my knowledge when it comes to engineering. My old employer let me go shortly after the war in Ukraine broke out (One week before the end of my training time in which the 'fireing-process' is, let's say easier) and energy prices here in germany skyrocketet (I'm working in the CAD department of a big metal factory). I straight went to applying for open job positions and went on a gauntlet like job interview spree. I was successfull and found a much better job position that I had before plus earning significantly more. Not for a second I was considering applying for unemployment wellfare here in Germany, the sheer idea that other people have to pull my weight disgust me in every way imaginable. My father has a small business that is in the hands of our family since 1945, my sister will take it over once my father retires. One of the most repeated sayings my mother told us, and still tells us is 'From nothing comes noghting'. If you want something, YOU have the responsibility to make that happen.

Every single one of us comes forth from the womb, naked, bloody, and knowing absolutely Nothing except that sucking is important. And every one of us, must learn everything -- mostly on our own as adults -- in just One Lifetime. It has always been this way.
