So much EASIER than prepping and rolling those cabbage leaves- this looks like FUN! Thanks for the sweet and sour angle with the ACV and brown sugar.

My mother made what we called Cabbage casserole all the time. We all loved it. I'll either be making it this week or baked spaghetti. I have a cabbage so probably the casserole. I didn't have her recipe, but am very fortunate to have the ability to create the recipe from memory of the flavors. I use crisped bacon, hamburger, 2 cans of tomato soup, some cooked rice, salt, pepper, garlic and onion. I fry the cabbage in the meat drippings. I think it tastes wonderful as does my family. I'll bet yours tastes very similar. Mom was 100% Polish and a tremendous cook. She couldn't believe I could take care of a home, cook and bake as well as I do. I told her I was very observant. I was kind of a pampered child. She would get my clothes ready for me every day until I got married. I miss her every day and especially today, Mother's Day. Thank you for the memory. Happy mother's day to you.

My mother was Slovak and would make Halupki. She passed in 2004 and I just never learned how to roll those cabbage leaves. I made this recipe, and while it wasn't rolled cabbage, the flavors were all there and lots of memories were brought back. Thank you.

Grandma Feral, this looks so good, I'm going to make it this week. Tonight we're having your Haluski, love it. I'm going to make the Golabki and I want to make sure it was a 1.12oz can of tomato sauce and 2 cups of cooked rice, it didn't look like that much rice in the video so I want to make sure so I don't mess it up. Last week I made your apple brownies, they were great. I used 4 granny smith apples and the filling didn't cover all the apples, but it was still delicious. I guess my apples were larger then yours. Looking forward to your next video.

I do use pepper especially if I use turmeric. I don't use salt because my Mom was on a salt restricted diet and I would cook meals for her.When I would grocery shop I would read all the labels. The amount of sodium in foods was amazing. Plus alot of vegetables have natural sodium in them. So now we don't add extra salt and we don't miss it. Thank you for watching👩

Hi Grandma Farel, I really enjoyed watching this. My Maternal grandparents were 100% polish, arriving via Ellis Island. Gołąbki was a favorite dish of mine growing up and is still, to this day! I'll make this version when I have the taste for it, but am short on time to boil cabbage and bake the Gołąbki . I have a similar cheat-sheet recipe for Pierogi. Back in the day, we called it "poor man's Pierogi". I don't know why. It was (relatively) quick, but any difference in cost was negligible. The shortcut was to use pasta instead of making dough and filling those little pockets. I have enjoyed this time reminiscing. Dziękuję Ci, for making it happen!

Your pans are nice and shiny. Are they Revere Ware? I was taught to hand wash pots and pans, the dishwasher is too hard on them.
@GrandmaFeral
@GrandmaFeral 18 күн бұрын
No my pans are not Revere Ware. A set of my pots were a gift from my parents when I got engaged to Grandpa. I also hand wash all my pots and pans and they have stayed nice and shiny.❤️Grandma👩🏻

Heh, I have wondered, the past few times I've had stuffed bell peppers, why not just chop the bell peppers and toss them in the mix with the stuffing ingredients. This is similar to that. Maybe yo could do a recipe idea? Hmm, and yes, grated parmesan or other cheese on top would be good, so should a little sour cream for the cabbage "Unrolls." :)
@GrandmaFeral
@GrandmaFeral Жыл бұрын
The recipe is called unstuffed peppers which is made with ground beef, green peppers, rice, tomato sauce, onion, garlic all placed in a large skillet. Cook until rice is done. You can add cheese or sour cream to your liking. Have a nice day❤️Grandma👩🏻

We make lazy stuffed cabbage and call it porcupine balls. Ground beef with raw rice and diced onion. Roll into meatballs. Layer sliced cabbage on bottom of a roaster pan, add meat/rice balls, add remainder of cabbage over the balls. The sauce is tomato soup, tomato sauce and water. Cover and bake at 350 for 2hrs. It is fantastic and makes the house smell like my childhood. Serve with mashed potatoes!

My mom was Polish, her family only used cubed bread instead of rice. Is it because the region of Poland they lived in? One area had rice and another had wheat? I always wondered. Love your content!!

This is in my slow cooker as I watch you make this. I don't even have to cook the ground meat. Just put it on low for 6 hours or so. Of course, the rice needs to be pre=cooked ahead of time. And I always make a sweet and sour sauce, as taught to me by my Lithuanian mother-in-law many years ago.

brilliant idea! when you make it traditionally, you break it up anyway on your plate, so why waste time? i would go a step further and put in dry rice and add water to the mixture and let it cook until the rice is cooked. it would most likely absorb all the flavor.
