When I got to 1500, my opponents start to play weird sort of intimidating moves like in the first game. It's always frustrating when I know the moves are bad, but I don't know how to punish them (or run my clock in the opening). This series has been very helpful! Thanks Danya!
@SerLaama3 жыл бұрын
Usually playing principled chess reveals the flaws of such moves in the long term. There are rarely very immediate and crushing responses to weird shit, but when you play logical, normal chess, in the end the poor piece placement bites them in the ass.

Playing f3 g4 h4 h5, also playing Be3-Qd2-Bh6 and castling queenside is a legit idea against the King's Indian defense, I play that and the engine doesn't hate me for playing it, IM Levy Rozman recommends it as well. Now, this guy played e4 and c4 instead of Be3-Qd2-Bh6, he did not play f3 and g4 before h4, he combined Be3 with f4 instead of f3, so what he is playing is probably dubious, but I am just saying that a pawn storm on the king's side against the Kings Indian defense isn't always a dubious approach.

It's nice that Daniel explains things in ways that people who aren't as skilled as him can understand. If he only explained things people at his level could understand, I'd not rate his teaching skills. "Patronise" or "condescend" both have negative connotations; and Daniel's expressions clearly aren't about showing off superiority.

At 10:38 I believe there was some miscommunication on the part of the person from twitch who commented that Alpha Zero refuted the King's Indian. I think he or she misspoke and meant to say the Queen's Indian, because Alpha Zero had a handfull of wins versus Stockfish 8 when Stockfish 8 played the Queen's Indian. Granted, because that is an outdated version of Stockfish, those defeats do not entail that the Queen's Indian has been refuted either. You can't really make that kind of determination without controlled variables.
Best lesson so far. I love it when Daniel goes over theory after his games

Speed Run 34 (1740) - My key takeaways Game 1 1. Attack or deflect piece defenders: (Ng4 exchanges bishop defending the pawn on d4) 2. When you have 2 options to take (Here bishop and knight), also consider the less obvious choice… Game 2 3. In the Greek gift, check for ‘item number 4’. Can the h2 (black) or h7 (white) square be protected after the exchange and queen attack? Game 3 4. 2 options to take (again) (bishop and knight). In close quarters the knight is better than the bishop at delivering check so bishop is given up in this case. This decision was justified just a couple of moves later then the opponent missed the Rook and Queen fork. 5. In the endgame activate the king. In this case the king was brought right to the centre before Danya moved any pawns. 6. When attacking the king with a sacrifice, check the king can’t evacuate to a safe place towards the centre. Or if defending, consider if you can evacuate. 7. Danya knows the tricks of the Kings Indian and spots the trap immediately. Lesson: know the traps in the openings you play (both defensive and attacking).

You do not see this often, but Daniel missed a very strong Idea in the Ponziani section at 16:52 . If one plays 5...Nxd4, you are met not with cxd4 (which still favors white), but with 6.Qh5+, that cannot be blocked with 6.g6 because it loses a lot of material, but instead has to be met with 6.Ke7, which is just a sad desperate move.
@winterwolf34353 жыл бұрын
In the timestamp, f3 is where the white knight is, and there's no black knights that can get there in a timely fashion (pawn on e5), so maybe you're thinking of a different square? Or am I just not seeing the line?
