You don't defend as much as he did in some black games if he wasn't invested. His strategy was probably to take it to tiebreaks, but he absolutely wanted to win eventually
@ursuss1002 күн бұрын
Ding actually withdrew from chess for several months after he won the title. He himself said that it was due to severe fatigue and a bout of depression. And even after he restarted playing early in 2024, he had a string of poor performances, culminating in not winning any game during the Budapest Olympiad. This doesn't mean he has become a bad chess player... He's still a super GM after all. But everyone at any level can go through bad moments, and when your mind isn't good...well, your chess isn't either. :(
@darrowthered7665Күн бұрын

Because of the king and pawn game not played well after the trades of took and bishop it can still end up in draw but the caliber of this game was two gm playing for world championships title so it was inevitable.
@renishisrael95203 күн бұрын
Exactly its a huge blunder
@ursuss1002 күн бұрын
I agree... Rf2 was shocking, even to myself at my humble amateur chess level... I mean, by playing Rf2 Ding basically offered his last active piece for trade, and then had no way of saving his bishop which was on a corner square and therefore stuck on the diagonal (since after RxR by Gukesh, Ding is obviously forced to answer by KxR - Gukesh still has initiative, and Bd5 makes Ding's bishop useless, again forcing the trade; in the King + 2 pawns vs King + one pawn ending, Gukesh would have kept at least one pawn secure on the board and Ding had no way to stop the promotion...). In a French broadcast, Kevin Bordi (aka Blitzstream) called it "the worst blunder in World Chess Championships history"... But this just shows that blunders can happen to anyone at any level really. And after 14 several-hour long games, it's even easier with fatigue... :(
@VedanthB9Күн бұрын
@@ursuss100 Danya actually suggested Rf2 Rb1+ during the livestream. Rxf2 Kxf2 Bd5 can be easily missed, even by top GMs.

Nop time pressure led to his mistake/blunder & If you check GM reactions / calculations videos many of them first tried to check the lines different than rook takes rook which Gukesh realized much more quickly during the game.

Ding has played a hundred of high level games. That blunder is common for under 1800 elo rating not a super GM 2700 elo. As the head of Russian chess federation said, the blunder is extremely suspicious.

Should be titled "Grandmasters react to eval bar". I watched many times but I do not see many GMs saw the blunder before the eval bar movement. Even Hikaru response was hindsight though I admit Hikaru is most of the time ahead of the eval bar. How many of the GMs have the eval bar switch on?

@Trip_FontaineКүн бұрын
@TheSciencePulse100 It's an endgame in which using basic endgame tactics Gukesh can get a pawn to promote to a queen and then win. It's not easy to explain what those basic endgame tactics are in just a few sentences, but here's a good video about king and pawn endgames: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3TWlGVqoJKEbq8
@jith120721 сағат бұрын
With an extra pawn in successive files, supported by the king beside, opponent can only exchange one pawn utmost, and the extra pawn will surely get promoted to a Queen. Checkmate follows, and at that point GMs would stop playing and resign knowing that the opponent will no way make any mistakes from thereon.
