It's so wholesome hearing the grandfather get all emotional with joy,his granddaughter says she did this for herself. But I'm sure she also wanted to follow in her grandfather's footsteps in going into medicine,since she speaks of him with such regards. That’s like my grandpa. His kids never went to college but when I finally graduated college with a BS in CS he definitely was very proud since I’m like the third grandchild with a degree and a first generation college grad.

So my dad died a year ago and my daughter was in premed and as he stopped his treatments for a very aggressive cancer at 79 he apologized to her for not being able to see her graduation!! 😢 I’m so happy you grandpa was able to see you make your dream come true you are truly blessed!!! This is the side of physician families that people don’t get to see enough of. I also come from a family of physicians and I get so many backhanded comments about nepotism and assumptions that I never worked hard and got everything handed to me. In reality, I grew up idolizing the doctors in my family and wanted to keep that legacy going. Me becoming a med student had started a special bond between me and my family and I am super excited to start working in the field. Coming from such a family doesn’t mean you pulled strings and got your position unfairly. Everything is case by case and it truly saddens me when fellow classmates imply I don’t deserve my spot here.

This is heartwarming but also a bummer because our “healthcare” system is so broken and corrupt. They do very little curing but they sure do enrich the hospitals and pharmaceutical companies. There’s way too much financial conflict of interest going on these days.

That story is really beautiful and all, but most likely she will turn into a “sell out” like ALL other doctors: they show up to work, see patients, collect money and send their patients on their way without helping them get better. I know this first hand because that’s how I am treated. Not one doctor has ever helped me, I am a 48-year-old female with dementia, MS, strokes, type 1 diabetes and blindness. There is not one single doctor who has ever helped me, not one. But there’s a ton of doctors who have all taken all of my money!!!! This story means nothing to me because no doctors these days actually care enough to do whatever it takes to help patients. But they do whatever they can to charge their patients a ton of money.
